As for yourself, you must say what is consistent with sound doctrine, namely,1 But speak thou the things that become sound doctrine:
that older men should be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance.2 That the aged men be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good,3 The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well:
so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children,4 That they may teach the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.5 To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves,6 Young men, in like manner, exhort that they be sober.
showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching, dignity,7 In all things shew thyself an example of good works, in doctrine, in integrity, in gravity,
and sound speech that cannot be criticized, so that the opponent will be put to shame without anything bad to say about us.8 The sound word that can not be blamed: that he, who is on the contrary part, may be afraid, having no evil to say of us.
Slaves are to be under the control of their masters in all respects, giving them satisfaction, not talking back to them9 Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, in all things pleasing, not gainsaying:
or stealing from them, but exhibiting complete good faith, so as to adorn the doctrine of God our savior in every way.10 Not defrauding, but in all things shewing good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things:
For the grace of God has appeared, saving all11 For the grace of God our Savior hath appeared to all men;
and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age,12 Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and justly, and godly in this world,
as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of the great God and of our savior Jesus Christ,13 Looking for the blessed hope and coming of the glory of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good.14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and might cleanse to himself a people acceptable, a pursuer of good works.
Say these things. Exhort and correct with all authority. Let no one look down on you.15 These things speak, and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
