1 the LORD said to Moses and Eleazar; son of Aaron the priest,	1 After the blood of the guilty was shed, the Lord said to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron, the priest:
2 "Take a census, by ancestral houses, throughout the community of the Israelites of all those of twenty years or more who are fit for military service in Israel."	2 Number the whole sum of the children of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their houses and kindreds, all that are able to go forth to war.
3 So on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan, Moses and the priest Eleazar registered	3 Moses therefore and Eleazar the priest, being in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan over against Jericho, spoke to them that were
4 those of twenty years or more, as the LORD had commanded Moses. The Israelites who came out of the land of Egypt were as follows:	4 From twenty years old and upward, as the Lord had commanded: and this is the number of them:
5 Of Reuben, the first-born of Israel, the Reubenites by clans were: through Hanoch the clan of the Hanochites, through Pallu the clan of the Palluites,	5 Ruben the firstborn of Israel. His sons were Henoch, of whom is the family of the Henochites: and Phallu, of whom is the family of the Phalluites:
6 through Hezron the clan of the Hezronites, through Carmi the clan of the Carmites.	6 And Hesron, of whom is the family of the Hesronites: and Charmi, of whom is the family of the Charmites.
7 These were the clans of the Reubenites, of whom forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men were registered.	7 These are the families of the stock of Ruben: whose number was found to be forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.
8 From Pallu descended Eliab,	8 The son of Phallu was Eliab.
9 and the descendants of Eliab were Dathan and Abiram-the same Dathan and Abiram, councilors of the community, who revolted against Moses and Aaron (like Korah's band when it rebelled against the LORD).	9 His sons, were Namuel and Dathan and Abiron. These are Dathan and Abiron the princes of the people, that rose against Moses and Aaron in the sedition of Core, when they rebelled against the Lord:
10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them as a warning (Korah too and the band that died when the fire consumed two hundred and fifty men.	10 And the earth opening her mouth swallowed up Core, many others dying, when the fire burned two hundred and fifty men. And there was a great miracle wrought,
11 The descendents of Korah, however, did not die out).	11 That when Core perished, his sons did not perish.
12 The Simeonites by clans were: through Nemuel the clan of the Nemuelites, through Jamin the clan of the Jaminites, through Jachin the clan of the Jachinites,	12 The sons of Simeon by their kindreds: Namuel, of him is the family of the Namuelites: Jamin, of him is the family of the Jaminites: Jachin, of him is the family of the Jachinites:
13 through Sohar the clan of the Soharites, through Shaul the clan of the Shaulites.	13 Zare, of him is the family of the Zarites: Saul, of him is the family of the Saulites.
14 These were the clans of the Simeonites, of whom twenty-two thousand two hundred men were registered.	14 These are the families of the stock of Simeon, of which the whole number was twenty-two thousand two hundred.
15 The Gadites by clans were: through Zephon the clan of the Zephonites, through Haggi the clan of the Haggites, through Shuni the clan of the Shunites,	15 The sons of Gad by their kindreds: Sephon, of hin; Is the family of the Sephonites: Aggi, of him is the family of the Aggites: Suni, of him is the family of the Sunites:
16 through Ozni the clan of the Oznites, through Eri the clan of the Erites,	16 Ozni, of him is the family of the Oznites: Her, of him is the family of the Herites :
17 through Arod the clan of the Arodites, through Areli the clan of the Arelites.	17 Arod, of him is the family of the Arodites: Ariel, of him is the family of the Arielites.

19 The sons of Judah who died in the land of Canaan were Er and Onan.	19 The sons of Juda, Her and Onan, who both died in the land of Chanaan.
20 The Judahites by clans were: through Shelah the clan of the Shelahites, through Perez the clan of the Perezites, through Zerah the clan of the Zerahites.	20 And the sons of Juda by their kindreds were: Sela, of whom is the family of the Selaites: Phares, of whom is the family of the Pharesites: Zare, of whom is the family of the Zarites.
21 The Perezites were: through Hezron the clan of the Hezronites, through Hamul the clan of the Hamulites.	21 Moreover the sons of Phares were: Hesron, of whom is the family of the Hesronites: and Hamul, of whom is the family of the Hamulites.
22 These were the clans of Judah, of whom seventy-six thousand five hundred men were registered.	22 These are the families of Juda, of which the whole number was seventy-six thousand five hundred.
23 The Issacharites by clans were: through Tola the clan of the Tolaites, through Puvah the clan of the Puvahites,	23 The sons of Issachar, by their kindreds: Thola, of whom is the family of the Tholaites: Phua, of whom is the family of the Phuaites:
24 through Jashub the clan of the Jashubites, through Shimron the clan of the Shimronites.	24 Jasub, of whom is the family of the Jasubites: Semran, of whom is the family of the Semranites.
25 These were the clans of Issachar, of whom sixty-four thousand three hundred men were registered.	25 These are the kindreds of Issachar, whose number was sixty-four thousand three hundred.
26 The Zebulunites by clans were: through Sered the clan of the Seredites, through Elon the clan of the Elonites, through Jahleel the clan of the Jahleelites.	26 The sons of Zabulon by their kindreds: Sared, of whom is the family of the Saredites: Elon, of whom is the family of the Elonites: Jalel, of whom is the family of the Jalelites.
27 These were the clans of the Zebulunites, of whom sixty thousand five hundred men were registered.	27 These are the kindreds of Zabulon, whose number was sixty thousand five hundred.
28 The sons of Joseph were Manasseh and Ephraim.	28 The sons of Joseph by their kindred, Manasses and Ephraim.
29 The Manassehites by clans were: through Machir the clan of the Machirites, through Gilead, a descendant of Machir, the clan of the Gileadites.	29 Of Manasses was born Machir, of whom is the family of the Machirites. Machir beget Galaad, of whom is the family of the Galaadites.
30 The Gileadites were: through Abiezer the clan of the Abiezrites, through Helek the clan of the Helekites,	30 Galaad had sons: Jezer, of whom is the family of the Jezerites: and Helec, of whom is the family of the Helecites:
31 through Asriel the clan of the Asrielites, through Shechem the clan of the Shechemites,	31 And Asriel, of whom is the family of the Asrielites: and Sechem, of whom is the family of the Sechemites:
32 through Shemida the clan of the Shemidaites, through Hepher the clan of the Hepherites.	32 And Semida, of whom is the family of the Semidaites: and Hepher, of whom is the family of the Hepherites.
33 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons, but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	33 And Hepher was the father of Salphaad, who had no sons, but only daughters, whose names are these: Maala, and Noa, and Hegla, and Melcha, and Thersa.
34 These were the clans of Manasseh, of whom fifty-two thousand seven hundred men were registered.	34 These are the families of Manasses, and the number of them fifty-two thousand seven hundred.
35 The Ephraimites by clans were: through Shuthelah the clan of the Shuthelahites, through Becher the clan of the Bechrites, through Tahan the clan of the Tahanites.	35 And the sons of Ephraim by their kindreds were these: Suthala, of whom is the family of the Suthalaites: Becher, of whom is the family of the Becherites: Thehen, of whom is the family of the Thehenites.
36 The Shuthelahites were: through Eran the clan of the Eranites.	36 Now the son of Suthala was Heran, of whom is the family of the Heranites.
37 These were the clans of the Ephraimites, of whom thirty-two thousand five hundred men were registered. These were the descendants of Joseph by clans.	37 These are the kindreds of the sons of Ephraim: whose number was thirty-two thousand five hundred.
38 The Benjaminites by clans were: through Bela the clan of the Belaites, through Ashbel the clan of the Ashbelites, through Ahiram the clan of the Ahiramites,	38 These are the sons of Joseph by their families. The sons of Benjamin in their kindreds: Bela, of whom is the family of the Belaites: Asbel, of whom is the family of the Asbelites: Ahiram, of whom is the family of the Ahiramites:
39 through Shupham the clan of the Shuphamites, through Hupham the clan of the Huphamites.	39 Supham, of whom is the family of the Suphamites: Hupham, of whom is the family of the Huphamites.
40 The descendants of Bela were Arad and Naaman: through Arad the clan of the Aradites, through Naaman the clan of the Naamanites.	40 The sons of Bela: Hered, and Noeman. Of Hered, is the family of the Heredites: of Noeman, the family of tile Noemanites.
41 These were the Benjaminites by clans, of whom forty-five thousand six hundred men were registered.	41 These are the sons of Benjamin by their kindreds, whose number was fortyfive thousand six hundred.
42 The Danites by clans were: through Shuham the clan of the Shuhamites. These were the clans of Dan,	42 The sons of Dan by their kindreds: Suham, of whom is the family of the Suhamites: These are the kindreds of Dan by their families.
43 of whom sixty-four thousand four hundred men were registered.	43 All were Suhamites, whose number was sixty-four thousand four hundred.
44 The Asherites by clans were: through Imnah the clan of the Imnites, through Ishvi the clan of the Ishvites, through Beriah the clan of the Beriites,	44 The sons of Aser by their kindreds: Jemna, of whom is the family of the Jemnaites: Jessui, of whom is the family of the Jessuites: Brie, of whom is the family of the Brieites.
45 through Heber the clan of the Heberites, through Malchiel the clan of the Malchielites.	45 The sons of Brie: Heber, of whom is the family of the Heberites: and Melchiel, of whom is the family of the Melchielites.
46 The name of Asher's daughter was Serah.	46 And the name of the daughter of Aser, was Sara.
47 These were the clans of Asher, of whom fifty-three thousand four hundred men were registered.	47 These are the kindreds of the sons of Aser, and their number fifty-three thousand four hundred.
48 The Naphtalites by clans were: through Jahzeel the clan of the Jahzeelites, through Guni the clan of the Gunites,	48 The sons of Nephtali by their kindreds: Jesiel, of whom is the family of the Jesielites: Guni, of whom is the family of the Gunites:
49 through Jezer the clan of the Jezerites, through Shillem the clan of the Shillemites.	49 Jeser, of whom is the family of the Jeserites: Sellem, of whom is the family of the Sellemites.
50 These were the clans of Naphtali, of whom forty-five thousand four hundred men were registered.	50 These are the kindreds of the sons of Nephtali by their families: whose number was forty-five thousand four hundred.
51 These six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty were the Israelites who were registered.	51 This is the sum of the children of Israel, that were reckoned up, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.
52 The LORD said to Moses,	52 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
53 "Among these groups the land shall be divided as their heritage in keeping with the number of individuals in each group.	53 To these shall the land be divided for their possessions according to the number of names.
54 To a large group you shall assign a large heritage, to a small group a small heritage, each group receiving its heritage in proportion to the number of men registered in it.	54 To the greater number thou shalt give a greater portion, and to the fewer a less: to every one, as they have now been reckoned up, shall a possession be delivered :
55 But the land shall be divided by lot, as the heritage of the various ancestral tribes.	55 Yet so that by lot the land be divided to the tribe and families.
56 As the lot falls shall each group, large or small, be assigned its heritage."	56 Whatsoever shall fall by lot, that shall be taken by the more, or the fewer.
57 The Levites registered by clans were: through Gershon the clan of the Gershonites, through Kohath the clan of the Kohathites, through Merari the clan of the Merarites.	57 This also is the number of the sons of Levi by their families: Gerson, of whom is the family of the Gersonites: Caath, of whom is the family of the Caathites: Merari, of whom is the family of the Merarites.
58 These also were clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, the clan of the Korahites. Among the descendants of Kohath was Amram,	58 These are the families of Levi: The family of Lobni, the family of Hebroni, the family of Moholi, the family of Musi, the family of Core. Now Caath beget Amram :
59 whose wife was named Jochebed. She also was of the tribe of Levi, born to the tribe in Egypt. To Amram she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.	59 Who had to wife Jochabed the daughter of Levi, who was horn to him in Egypt. She bore to her husband Amram sons, Aaron and Moses, and Mary their sister.
60 To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.	60 Of Aaron were born Nadab and Abiu, and Eleazar and Ithamar:
61 But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered profane fire before the LORD.	61 Of whom Nadab and Abiu died, when they had offered the strange fire before the Lord.
62 The total number of male Levites one month or more of age, who were registered, was twenty-three thousand. They were not registered with the other Israelites, however, for no heritage was given them among the Israelites.	62 And all that were numbered, were twenty-three thousand males from one month old and upward: for they were not reckoned up among the children of Israel, neither was a possession given to them with the rest.
63 These, then, were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar in the census of the Israelites taken on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.	63 This is the number of the children of Israel, that were enrolled by Moses and Eleazar the priest, in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan, over against Jericho.
64 Among them there was not a man of those who had been registered by Moses and the priest Aaron in the census of the Israelites taken in the desert of Sinai.	64 Among whom there was not one of them that were numbered before by Moses and Aaron in the desert of Sinai.
65 For the LORD had told them that they would surely die in the desert, and not one of them was left except Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun.	65 For the Lord had foretold that they should die in the wilderness. And none remained of them, but Caleb the son of Jephone, and Josue the son of Nun.
