Sirach 41

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 O death! how bitter the thought of you for the man at peace amid his possessions, For the man unruffled and always successful, who still can enjoy life's pleasures.	1 ¡Muerte, qué amargo es tu recuerdo para el que vive tranquilo en medio de sus bienes, para el hombre despreocupado, a quien todo le va bien y aún tiene vigor para disfrutar de la vida!
2 O death! how welcome your sentence to the weak man of failing strength, Tottering and always rebuffed, with no more sight, with vanished hope.	2 ¡Muerte, tu sentencia es bienvenida para el hombre necesitado y sin fuerzas, gastado por los años y lleno de ansiedades, que se rebela y ha agotado su paciencia!
3 Fear not death's decree for you; remember, it embraces those before you, and those after.	3 No temas a tu sentencia de muerte, recuerda a los que te precedieron y te seguirán.
4 Thus God has ordained for all flesh; why then should you reject the will of the Most High? Whether one has lived a thousand years, a hundred, or ten, in the nether world he has no claim on life.	4 Esta es la sentencia del Señor para todo ser viviente: ¿por qué oponerse a la voluntad del Altísimo? Aunque vivas diez, cien o mil años, en el Abismo no te echarán en cara lo que hayas vivido.
5 A reprobate line are the children of sinners, and witless offspring are in the homes of the wicked.	5 Los hijos de los pecadores son gente abominable que frecuentan las casas de los impíos.
6 Their dominion is lost to sinners' children, and reproach abides with their descendants.	6 La herencia de los hijos de los pecadores va a la ruina, con su descendencia se perpetúa su infamia.
7 Children curse their wicked father, for they suffer disgrace through him.	7 Un padre impío se atrae los reproches de sus hijos, porque es a él a quien deben su infamia.
8 Woe to you, O sinful men, who forsake the law of the Most High.	8 ¡Ay de ustedes, hombres impíos, que han abandonado la Ley del Dios Altísimo!
9 If you have children, calamity will seize them; you will beget them only for groaning. When you stumble, there is lasting joy; at death, you become a curse.	9 Si ustedes nacen, nacen para la maldición, y si mueren, les tocará en suerte la maldición.
10 Whatever is of nought returns to nought, so too the godless from void to void.	10 Todo lo que sale de la tierra, vuelve a la tierra: así pasan los impíos, de la maldición a la ruina.
11 Man's body is a fleeting thing, but a virtuous name will never be annihilated.	11 Los hombres se lamentan porque perece su cuerpo. y en cuanto a los pecadores, hasta su mal nombre se borrará..
12 Have a care for your name, for it will stand by you better than precious treasures in the thousands;	12 Cuida tu buen nombre, porque eso te quedará mucho más que mil tesoros de oro.
13 The boon of life is for limited days, but a good name, for days without number.	13 Una vida feliz tiene sus días contados, pero el buen nombre permanece para siempre.
14 My children, heed my instruction about shame; judge of disgrace only according to my rules, For it is not always well to be ashamed, nor is it always the proper thing to blush:	14 Hijos míos, observen en paz mi enseñanza. Sabiduría escondida y tesoro invisible: ¿de qué sirven una cosa y la otra?
15 Before father and mother be ashamed of immorality, before master and mistress, of falsehood;	15 Es preferible el hombre que disimula su necedad al que oculta su sabiduría.
16 Before prince and ruler, of flattery; before the public assembly, of crime;	16 Por lo tanto, sientan vergüenza de lo que les voy a indicar, porque no está bien avergonzarse por cualquier cosa ni toda vergüenza merece ser igualmente aprobada.
17 Before friend and companion, of disloyalty, and of breaking an oath or agreement.	17 Tengan vergüenza de la fornicación ante su padre y su madre, y de la mentira, ante un jefe y un poderoso;
18 Be ashamed of theft from the people where you settle, and of stretching out your elbow when you dine;	18 del delito ante un juez y un magistrado, y de la iniquidad ante la asamblea del pueblo;
19 Of refusing to give when asked, of defrauding another of his appointed share,	19 de la injusticia ante un compañero y un amigo, y del robo ante su vecindario;
20 Of failing to return a greeting, and of rebuffing a friend;	20 de violar un juramento y un pacto, y de apoyar los codos en la mesa;
21 Of gazing at a married woman, and of entertaining thoughts about another's wife; Of trifling with a servant girl you have, and of violating her couch;	21 de dar o recibir con desdén, y de no devolver el saludo;
22 Of using harsh words with friends, and of following up your gifts with insults;	22 de mirar a una prostituta, y de dar vuelta la cara a un pariente;
23 Of repeating what you hear, and of betraying secrets--	23 de quitar a otro su parte o el regalo que recibió, y de mirar a una mujer casada;
24 These are the things you should rightly avoid as shameful if you would be looked upon by everyone with favor.	24 de tener intimidades con tu sirvienta, ¡no te acerques a su lecho!
	25 de decir palabras hirientes a tus amigos ¡lo que les des no se lo eches en cara!
	26 de repetir lo que has oído y de revelar los secretos.
	27 Entonces sentirás una auténtica vergüenza, y serás bien visto por todos los hombres.
