Sirach 10

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.	1 El juez sabio adoctrina a su pueblo, la autoridad del sensato está bien regulada.
2 As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.	2 Según el juez del pueblo, así serán sus ministros, como el jefe de la ciudad, todos sus habitantes.
3 A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.	3 El rey sin instrucción arruinará a su pueblo, la ciudad se edifica sobre la prudencia de los dirigentes.
4 Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;	4 En manos del Señor está el gobierno de la tierra, a su tiempo suscita para ella al que conviene.
5 Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.	5 En manos del Señor el recto camino del hombre, él pone su gloria en el escriba.
6 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.	6 Sea cual fuere su agravio, no guardes rencor al prójimo, y no hagas nada en un arrebato de violencia.
7 Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression they both hate.	7 Odioso es al Señor y a los hombres el orgullo, para ambos es un yerro la injusticia.
8 Dominion is transferred from one people to another because of the violence of the arrogant.	8 La soberanía pasa de una nación a otra, por las injusticias, las violencias y el dinero.
9 Why are dust and ashes proud? even during life man's body decays;	9 ¿Por qué se enorgullece el que es tierra y ceniza? ¡si ya en vida es su vientre podredumbre!
10 A slight illness--the doctor jests, a king today--tomorrow he is dead.	10 La larga enfermedad deja perplejo al médico, y el que hoy es rey fenecerá mañana.
11 When a man dies, he inherits corruption; worms and gnats and maggots.	11 Y cuando un hombre muere, recibe como herencia reptiles, fieras y gusanos.
12 The beginning of pride is man's stubbornness in withdrawing his heart from his Maker;	12 El comienzo del orgullo del hombre es alejarse del Señor, cuando de su Hacedor se apartó su corazón.
13 For pride is the reservoir of sin, a source which runs over with vice; Because of it God sends unheard-of afflictions and brings men to utter ruin.	13 Que el comienzo del orgullo es el pecado, el que se agarra a él vierte abominación. Por eso les dio el Señor asombrosos castigos, y les abatió hasta aniquilarlos.
14 The thrones of the arrogant God overturns and establishes the lowly in their stead.	14 Los tronos de los príncipes los volteó el Señor, y en su lugar sentó a los mansos.
15 The roots of the proud God plucks up, to plant the humble in their place:	15 Las raíces de los orgullosos las arrancó el Señor, y en su lugar plantó a los humildes.
16 He breaks down their stem to the level of the ground, then digs their roots from the earth.	16 Las comarcas de las naciones las arrasó el Señor, y las destruyó hasta los cimientos de la tierra.
17 The traces of the proud God sweeps away and effaces the memory of them from the earth.	17 Tomó algunos de ellos y los destruyó, y borró de la tierra su recuerdo.
18 Insolence is not allotted to a man, nor stubborn anger to one born of woman.	18 No se ha hecho para los hombres el orgullo, ni el furor de la ira para los nacidos de mujer.
19 Whose offspring can be in honor? Those of men. Which offspring are in honor? Those who fear God. Whose offspring can be in disgrace? Those of men. Which offspring are in disgrace? Those who transgress the commandments.	19 ¿Qué raza es honorable? La del hombre. ¿Qué raza es honorable? Los que temen al Señor. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? La del hombre. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? Los que violan sus mandatos.
20 Among brethren their leader is in honor; he who fears God is in honor among his people.	20 En medio de sus hermanos es honorable el jefe, y los que temen al Señor, a los ojos de él.
21 Be it tenant or wayfarer, alien or pauper, his glory is the fear of the LORD.
22 It is not just to despise a man who is wise but poor, nor proper to honor any sinner.	22 Sean ricos, llenos de gloria o pobres, su orgullo es el temor del Señor.
23 The prince, the ruler, the judge are in honor; but none is greater than he who fears God.	23 No es justo despreciar al pobre inteligente, ni procede glorificar al pecador.
24 When free men serve a prudent slave, the wise man does not complain.	24 Grande, juez y poderoso reciben honores, mas no hay mayor entre ellos que el que teme al Señor.
25 Flaunt not your wisdom in managing your affairs, and boast not in your time of need.	25 Al siervo sabio los hombres libres sirven, y el hombre de saber no lo critica.
26 Better the worker who has plenty of everything than the boaster who is without bread.	26 No te hagas el sabio cuando cumples tu obra, no te gloríes en el momento de tu aprieto.
27 My son, with humility have self-esteem; prize yourself as you deserve.	27 Más vale el que trabaja y le sobra de todo que el que anda gloriándose y carece de pan.
28 Who will acquit him who condemns himself? who will honor him who discredits himself?	28 Hijo, gloríate con moderación, y estímate en lo que vales.
29 The poor man is honored for his wisdom as the rich man is honored for his wealth;	29 Al que peca contra sí mismo, ¿quién le justificará? ¿quién apreciará al que desprecia su vida?
30 Honored in poverty, how much more so in wealth! Dishonored in wealth, in poverty how much the more!	30 El pobre es honrado por su saber, y el rico lo es por su riqueza.
