Proverbs 6

1 My son, if you have become surety to your neighbor, given your hand in pledge to another,	1 Figlio mio, se ti sei reso garante per un tuo amico ed hai data la tua mano ad un altro,
2 You have been snared by the utterance of your lips, caught by the words of your mouth;	2 ti sei legato colle parole della tua bocca, ti sei impigliato nei tuoi discorsi.
3 So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's power: Go, hurry, stir up your neighbor!	3 Fa dunque, figlio mio, quello che ti dico per disimpegnarti, perchè sei caduto nelle mani del tuo prossimo: corri senza indugio a svegliare il tuo amico,
4 Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids;	4 non dar sonno ai tuoi occhi nò riposo alle tue pupille,
5 Free yourself as a gazelle from the snare, or as a bird from the hand of the fowler.	5 Scappa come gazzella dalla mano, come uccello dalla mano dell'uccellatore. La formica è mi rimprovero pel pigro.
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, study her ways and learn wisdom;	6 Vai, o pigro, dalla formica, mira i suoi modi di fare, e impara ad essere saggio.
7 For though she has no chief, no commander or ruler,	7 Essa, benché non abbia nè capitano nè sorvegliante nè principe,
8 She procures her food in the summer, stores up her provisions in the harvest.	8 prepara nell'estate il suo sostentamento o al tempo della messe raccoglie il suo cibo.
9 How long, O sluggard, will you rest? when will you rise from your sleep?	9 Fino a quando, o pigro, dormirai? Quando ti desterai dal tuo sonno?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest--	10 Un po' dormirai, un po' sonnecchierai, un po' starai colle mani in mano per riposarti;
11 Then will poverty come upon you like a highway man, and want like an armed man.	11 ma t'arriverà come un corriere la miseria e la povertà come un uomo armato. Ma se sarai diligente, verrà come una sorgente la tua messe e fuggirà lungi da te la miseria.
12 A scoundrel, a villain, is he who deals in crooked talk.	12 L'uomo apostata, uomo da nulla, procede colla perversità sulle labbra,
13 He winks his eyes, shuffles his feet, makes signs with his fingers;	13 ammicca cogli occhi, stropiccia i piedi, parla colle dita.
14 He has perversity in his heart, is always plotting evil, sows discord.	14 Nel suo cuore perverso prepara del male e in ogni tempo semina discordie.
15 Therefore suddenly ruin comes upon him; in an instant he is crushed beyond cure.	15 Sopra di lui verrà ad un tratto la rovina, in un attimo sarà annientato senza alcun rimedio.
16 There are six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to him;	16 Sei cose odia il Signore, e la settima l'ha in esecrazione:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;	17 gli occhi superbi, la lingua bugiarda, le mani che spargono sangue innocente,
18 A heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that run swiftly to evil,	18 il cuore che medita iniqui disegni, i piedi che corrono frettolosi al male,
19 The false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.	19 il falso testimonio che proferisce menzogne, e colui che semina discordie tra i fratelli.
20 Observe, my son, your father's bidding, and reject not your mother's teaching;	20 Figlio mio, osserva i precetti di tuo padre, e non trascurare le regole di tua madre.
21 Keep them fastened over your heart always, put them around your neck;	21 Tienli continuamente legati sul tuo cuore e attaccali al tuo collo.
	22 Ti accompagnino nel viaggio, ti custodiscano nel sonno, e quando ti svegli parla con loro.
23 For the bidding is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and a way to life are the reproofs of discipline;	23 Perchè il precetto è una lampada, la legge è una luce, e la correzione della disciplina è via alla vita.
24 To keep you from your neighbor's wife, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.	24 Esse serviranno a guardarti dalla donna malvagia e dall'adulatrice lingua della straniera.
25 Lust not in your heart after her beauty, let her not captivate you with her glance!	25 Non desiderare in cuor tuo la sua bellezza, non ti lasciar prendere dai suoi sguardi;
26 For the price of a loose woman may be scarcely a loaf of bread, But if she is married, she is a trap for your precious life.	26 che il prezzo d'una prostituta è appena un pane, ma la maritata fa la caccia ad una vita preziosa.
27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his garments not burned?	27 Può forse l'uomo nascondere del fuoco nel suo seno, senza bruciarsi le vesti?
28 Or can a man walk on live coals, and his feet not be scorched?	28 Ovvero camminare sopra carboni accesi, senza scottarsi i piedi?
29 So with him who goes in to his neighbor's wife-- none who touches her shall go unpunished.	29 Così chi va dalla moglie d'un altro, non sarà senza colpa, se l'avrà toccata.
30 Men despise not the thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry;	30 Non è gran peccato, se uno ruba, ruba infatti per empir l'affamato suo ventre;
31 Yet if he be caught he must pay back sevenfold; all the wealth of his house he may yield up.	31 ma se è scoperto deve rendere fino al settuplo e dare tutti i beni della sua casa.
32 But he who commits adultery is a fool; he who would destroy himself does it.	32 Or l'adultero, per mancanza di cuore, manderà in rovina se stesso:
33 A degrading beating will he get, and his disgrace will not be wiped away;	33 accumula sopra se stesso vergogna e ignominia, e la sua infamia non sarà mai cancellata;
34 For vindictive is the husband's wrath, he will have no pity on the day of vengeance;	34 perchè la gelosia e il furore del marito non perdoneranno nel giorno della vendetta.
35 He will not consider any restitution, nor be satisfied with the greatest gifts.	35 Nè si placherà alle altrui preghiere, di chiunque siano, e non accetterà in compenso doni, anche numerosissimi.
