Proverbs 6

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 My son, if you have become surety to your neighbor, given your hand in pledge to another,	1 Meu filho, se ficaste por fiador do teu próximo, se estendeste a mão a um estranho,
2 You have been snared by the utterance of your lips, caught by the words of your mouth;	2 se te ligaste com as palavras de teus lábios, se ficaste cativo com a tua própria linguagem,
3 So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's power: Go, hurry, stir up your neighbor!	3 faze, pois, meu filho, o que te digo: livra-te, pois caíste nas mãos do teu próximo; vai, apressa-te, solicita-o com instância,
4 Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids;	4 não concedas sono aos teus olhos, nem repouso às tuas pálpebras.
5 Free yourself as a gazelle from the snare, or as a bird from the hand of the fowler.	5 Salva-te como a gazela {do caçador}, e como o pássaro das mãos do que arma laços.
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, study her ways and learn wisdom;	6 Vai, ó preguiçoso, ter com a formiga, observa seu proceder e torna-te sábio:
7 For though she has no chief, no commander or ruler,	7 ela não tem chefe, nem inspetor, nem mestre;
8 She procures her food in the summer, stores up her provisions in the harvest.	8 prepara no verão sua provisão, apanha no tempo da ceifa sua comida.
9 How long, O sluggard, will you rest? when will you rise from your sleep?	9 Até quando, ó preguiçoso, dormirás? Quando te levantarás de teu sono?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest--	10 Um pouco para dormir, outro pouco para dormitar, outro pouco para cruzar as mãos no seu leito,
11 Then will poverty come upon you like a highway man, and want like an armed man.	11 e a indigência virá sobre ti como um ladrão; a pobreza, como um homem armado.
12 A scoundrel, a villain, is he who deals in crooked talk.	12 É um homem perverso, um iníquo aquele que caminha com falsidade na boca;
13 He winks his eyes, shuffles his feet, makes signs with his fingers;	13 pisca os olhos, bate com o pé, faz sinais com os dedos;
14 He has perversity in his heart, is always plotting evil, sows discord.	14 só há perversidade em seu coração, não cessa de maquinar o mal, e de semear questões.
15 Therefore suddenly ruin comes upon him; in an instant he is crushed beyond cure.	15 Por isso, repentinamente, virá sua ruína, de improviso ficará irremediavelmente quebrantado.
16 There are six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to him;	16 Seis coisas há que o Senhor odeia e uma sétima que lhe é uma abominação:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;	17 olhos altivos, língua mentirosa, mãos que derramam sangue inocente,
18 A heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that run swiftly to evil,	18 um coração que maquina projetos perversos, pés pressurosos em correr ao mal,
19 The false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.	19 um falso testemunho que profere mentiras e aquele que semeia discórdias entre irmãos.
20 Observe, my son, your father's bidding, and reject not your mother's teaching;	20 Guarda, filho meu, os preceitos de teu pai, não desprezes o ensinamento de tua mãe.
21 Keep them fastened over your heart always, put them around your neck;	21 Traze-os constantemente ligados ao teu coração e presos ao teu pescoço.
	22 Servir-te-ão de guia ao caminhares, de guarda ao dormires e falarão contigo ao despertares,
23 For the bidding is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and a way to life are the reproofs of discipline;	23 porque o preceito é uma tocha, o ensinamento é uma luz, a correção e a disciplina são o caminho da vida,
24 To keep you from your neighbor's wife, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.	24 para te preservar da mulher corrupta e da língua lisonjeira da estranha.
25 Lust not in your heart after her beauty, let her not captivate you with her glance!	25 Não cobices sua formosura em teu coração, não te deixes prender por seus olhares;
26 For the price of a loose woman may be scarcely a loaf of bread, But if she is married, she is a trap for your precious life.	26 por uma meretriz o homem se reduz a um pedaço de pão, e a mulher adúltera arrebata a vida preciosa do homem.
27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his garments not burned?	27 Porventura pode alguém esconder fogo em seu seio sem que suas vestes se inflamem?
28 Or can a man walk on live coals, and his feet not be scorched?	28 Pode caminhar sobre brasas sem que seus pés se queimem?
29 So with him who goes in to his neighbor's wife-- none who touches her shall go unpunished.	29 Assim o que vai para junto da mulher do seu próximo não ficará impune depois de a tocar.
30 Men despise not the thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry;	30 Não se despreza o ladrão que furta para satisfazer seu apetite, quando tem fome;
31 Yet if he be caught he must pay back sevenfold; all the wealth of his house he may yield up.	31 se for preso, restituirá sete vezes mais e entregará todos os bens de sua casa.
32 But he who commits adultery is a fool; he who would destroy himself does it.	32 Quem comete adultério carece de senso, é por sua própria culpa que um homem assim procede.
33 A degrading beating will he get, and his disgrace will not be wiped away;	33 Só encontrará infâmia e ignomínia e seu opróbrio não se apagará,
34 For vindictive is the husband's wrath, he will have no pity on the day of vengeance;	34 porque o marido, furioso e ciumento, não perdoará no dia da vingança,
35 He will not consider any restitution, nor be satisfied with the greatest gifts.	35 não se aplacará por resgate algum, nem aceitará nada, se multiplicares os presentes.
