Proverbs 4

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 Hear, O children, a father's instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding!	1 Escuchad, hijos, la instrucción del padre, estad atentos para aprender inteligencia,
2 Yes, excellent advice I give you; my teaching do not forsake.	2 porque es buena la doctrina que os enseño; no abandonéis mi lección.
3 When I was my father's child, frail, yet the darling of my mother,	3 También yo fui hijo para mi padre, tierno y querido a los ojos de mi madre,
4 He taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart hold fast my words: keep my commands, that you may live!	4 El me enseñaba y me decía: «Retén mis palabras en tu corazón, guarda mis mandatos y vivirás.
5 "Get wisdom, get understanding! Do not forget or turn aside from the words I utter.	5 Adquiere la sabiduría, adquiere la inteligencia, no la olvides, no te apartes de los dichos de mi boca.
6 Forsake her not, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will safeguard you;	6 No la abandones y ella te guardará, ámala y ella será tu defensa.
7 The beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom; at the cost of all you have, get understanding.	7 El comienzo de la sabiduría es: adquiere la sabiduría, a costa de todos tus bienes adquiere la inteligencia.
8 Extol her, and she will exalt you; she will bring you honors if you embrace her;	8 Haz acopio de ella, y ella te ensalzará; ella te honrará, si tú la abrazas;
9 She will put on your head a graceful diadem; a glorious crown will she bestow on you."	9 pondrá en tu cabeza una diadema de gracia, una espléndida corona será tu regalo».
10 Hear, my son, and receive my words, and the years of your life shall be many.	10 Escucha, hijo mío, recibe mis palabras, y los años de tu vida se te multiplicarán.
11 On the way of wisdom I direct you, I lead you on straightforward paths.	11 En el camino de la sabiduría te he instruido, te he encaminado por los senderos de la rectitud.
12 When you walk, your step will not be impeded, and should you run, you will not stumble.	12 Al andar no se enredarán tus pasos, y si corres, no tropezarás.
13 Hold fast to instruction, never let her go; keep her, for she is your life.	13 Aférrate a la instrucción, no la sueltes; guárdala, que es tu vida.
14 The path of the wicked enter not, walk not on the way of evil men;	14 No te metas por la senda de los perversos, ni vayas por el camino de los malvados.
15 Shun it, cross it not, turn aside from it, and pass on.	15 Evítalo, no pases por él, apártate de él, pasa adelante.
16 For they cannot rest unless they have done evil; to have made no one stumble steals away their sleep.	16 Porque ésos no duermen si no obran el mal, se les quita el sueño si no han hecho caer a alguno.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.	17 Es que su pan es pan de maldad, y vino de violencia es su bebida.
18 But the path of the just is like shining light, that grows in brilliance till perfect day.	18 La senda de los justos es como la luz del alba, que va en aumento hasta llegar a pleno día.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; they know not on what they stumble.	19 Pero el camino de los malos es como tinieblas, no saben dónde han tropezado.
20 My son, to my words be attentive, to my sayings incline your ear;	20 Atiende, hijo mío, a mis palabras, inclina tu oído a mis razones.
21 Let them not slip out of your sight, keep them within your heart;	21 No las apartes de tus ojos, guárdalas dentro de tu corazón.
22 For they are life to those who find them, to man's whole being they are health.	22 Porque son vida para los que las encuentran, y curación para toda carne.
23 With closest custody, guard your heart, for in it are the sources of life.	23 Por encima de todo cuidado, guarda tu corazón, porque de él brotan las fuentes de la vida.
24 Put away from you dishonest talk, deceitful speech put far from you.	24 Aparta de ti la falsía de la boca y el enredo de los labios arrójalo de ti.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead and your glance be directly forward.	25 Miren de frente tus ojos, tus párpados derechos a lo que está ante tí.
26 Survey the path for your feet, and let all your ways be sure.	26 Tantea bien el sendero de tus pies y sean firmes todos tus caminos.
27 Turn neither to right nor to left, keep your foot far from evil.	27 No te tuerzas ni a derecha ni a izquierda, aparta tu pie de la maldad.
