New American Bible La Biblia
The wicked man flees although no one pursues him; but the just man, like a lion, feels sure of himself.1 El malvado huye sin que lo persigan, | el honrado está seguro como un león.
If a land is rebellious, its princes will be many; but with a prudent man it knows security.2 Un país en desorden tiene muchos jefes, | un hombre prudente y sabio mantiene el orden.
A rich man who oppresses the poor is like a devastating rain that leaves no food.3 Gobernante que explota a los débiles | es tormenta que se lleva la cosecha.
Those who abandon the law praise the wicked man, but those who keep the law war against him.4 Los que abandonan la ley aplauden al malvado, | los que la cumplen se indignan contra él.
Evil men understand nothing of justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.5 Los malvados no entienden de justicia, | quien consulta al Señor lo entiende todo.
Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked in his ways and rich.6 Más vale pobre de conducta honrada | que rico con malas intenciones.
He who keeps the law is a wise son, but the gluttons' companion disgraces his father.7 El hijo inteligente observa la ley, | pero el amigo de libertinos deshonra a su padre.
He who increases his wealth by interest and overcharge gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.8 Quien aumenta su riqueza prestando a usura | la acumula para quien se apiada del pobre.
When one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.9 Si uno cierra su oído a la ley, | resulta detestable su oración.
He who seduces the upright into an evil way will himself fall into his own pit. (And blameless men will gain prosperity.)10 Quien desvía a los rectos por el mal camino | acabará cayendo en su propia trampa.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who is intelligent sees through him.11 El rico se las da de sabio, | pero el pobre que es sagaz lo pone al descubierto.
When the just are triumphant, there is great jubilation; but when the wicked gain preeminence, people hide.12 Si triunfa el honrado se celebran fiestas; | si se impone el malvado, todos se esconden.
He who conceals his sins prospers not, but he who confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy.13 El que oculta sus faltas no prosperará; | el que las confiesa y cambia será compadecido.
Happy the man who is always on his guard; but he who hardens his heart will fall into evil.14 Dichoso el que se mantiene alerta, | el terco caerá en la desgracia.
Like a roaring lion or a ravenous bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.15 León rugiente y oso hambriento, | el gobernante que explota a los pobres.
The less prudent the prince, the more his deeds oppress. He who hates ill-gotten gain prolongs his days.16 Gobernante imprudente multiplica la opresión, | quien odia la avaricia vivirá muchos años.
Though a man burdened with human blood were to flee to the grave, none should support him.17 Hombre perseguido por delito de sangre | corre a la tumba, ¡que nadie lo detenga!
He who walks uprightly is safe, but he whose ways are crooked falls into the pit.18 Quien camina rectamente se salvará, | el camino sinuoso conduce al fracaso.
He who cultivates his land will have plenty of food, but from idle pursuits a man has his fill of poverty.19 Quien cultiva su tierra se hartará de pan, | quien persigue quimeras se hartará de miseria.
The trustworthy man will be richly blessed; he who is in haste to grow rich will not go unpunished.20 El hombre leal abundará en bendiciones, | quien corre por enriquecerse no quedará impune.
To show partiality is never good: for even a morsel of bread a man may do wrong.21 No es bueno ser parcial con la gente, | por un trozo de pan delinque el hombre.
The avaricious man is perturbed about his wealth, and he knows not when want will come upon him.22 El avaro corre por enriquecerse, | sin saber que le espera la miseria.
He who rebukes a man gets more thanks in the end than one with a flattering tongue.23 Es más estimado el que corrige | que el hombre de lengua aduladora.
He who defrauds father or mother and calls it no sin, is a partner of the brigand.24 El que roba a sus padres y dice: «No es pecado», | es un cómplice de bandoleros.
The greedy man stirs up disputes, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.25 El codicioso provoca pleitos, | quien confía en el Señor prosperará.
He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is safe.26 Quien se fía de sí mismo es un necio, | quien obra con sensatez se salvará.
He who gives to the poor suffers no want, but he who ignores them gets many a curse.27 Quien da al pobre no pasará necesidad, | quien no lo ayuda será maldecido.
When the wicked gain pre-eminence, other men hide; but at their fall the just flourish.28 Se imponen los malvados y todos se esconden; | cuando desaparecen, aumentan los honrados.
