NEW AMERICAN BIBLEBiblia Sagrada
Like a stream is the king's heart in the hand of the LORD; wherever it pleases him, he directs it.1 El corazón del rey es una acequia | que el Señor canaliza adonde quiere.
All the ways of a man may be right in his own eyes, but it is the LORD who proves hearts.2 El hombre juzga recto su camino, | pero el Señor pesa los corazones.
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.3 Practicar el derecho y la justicia | el Señor lo prefiere a los sacrificios.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart-- the tillage of the wicked is sin.4 Ojos altivos, corazón ambicioso; | faro de los malvados es el pecado.
The plans of the diligent are sure of profit, but all rash haste leads certainly to poverty.5 Los planes del diligente traen ganancia; | los del hombre atolondrado, indigencia.
He who makes a fortune by a lying tongue is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.6 Tesoros ganados con boca embustera, | humo que se disipa y trampa mortal.
The oppression of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is right.7 La violencia acaba con los malvados, | pues rehúsan practicar la justicia.
The way of the culprit is crooked, but the conduct of the innocent is right.8 El camino del criminal es tortuoso; | la conducta del inocente, recta.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.9 Mejor vivir en rincón de azotea | que en palacio con mujer pendenciera.
The soul of the wicked man desires evil; his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.10 El malvado se afana en el mal, | nunca se apiada del prójimo.
When the arrogant man is punished, the simple are the wiser; when the wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.11 Castigas al cínico y aprende el inexperto, | pero el sabio aprende oyendo la lección.
The just man appraises the house of the wicked: there is one who brings down the wicked to ruin.12 El honrado observa la casa del malvado | y ve cómo se hunde en la desgracia.
He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will himself also call and not be heard.13 Quien cierra los oídos al clamor del pobre | no será escuchado cuando grite.
A secret gift allays anger, and a concealed present, violent wrath.14 Regalo a escondidas calma la ira; | obsequio discreto, el furor violento.
To practice justice is a joy for the just, but terror for evildoers.15 Al justo le alegra la justicia; | en cambio, al culpable le aterroriza.
The man who strays from the way of good sense will abide in the assembly of the shades.16 Quien deja el camino de la prudencia | habitará en compañía de los muertos.
He who loves pleasure will suffer want; he who loves wine and perfume will not be rich.17 Quien ama el placer acaba en la miseria, | amigo de vino y perfumes no prospera.
The wicked man serves as ransom for the just, and the faithless man for the righteous.18 El malvado pagará por el justo; | el impío, por el hombre honrado.
It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and vexatious wife.19 Mejor vivir en desierto | que con mujer pendenciera e irritable.
Precious treasure remains in the house of the wise, but the fool consumes it.20 En casa del sabio, tesoro y perfumes; | el necio despilfarra lo que tiene.
He who pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor.21 Quien busca justicia y bondad | encontrará vida y gloria.
The wise man storms a city of the mighty, and overthrows the stronghold in which it trusts.22 El sabio asaltará la ciudad de los fuertes, | derribará la fortaleza en que confiaban.
He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from trouble.23 Quien guarda la boca y la lengua | se guarda también de peligros.
Arrogant is the name for the man of overbearing pride who acts with scornful effrontery.24 Llaman arrogante al fanfarrón insolente, | pues se porta con orgullo desmedido.
The sluggard's propensity slays him, for his hands refuse to work.25 Los propios deseos matan al perezoso, | pues sus manos se niegan a trabajar.
Some are consumed with avarice all the day, but the just man gives unsparingly.26 El malvado codicia de continuo, | el honrado da sin reservas.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination, the more so when they offer it with a bad intention.27 Sacrificio de malvados es odioso, | mucho más si hay mala intención.
The false witness will perish, but he who listens will finally have his say.28 Testigo falso acabará perdido, | quien escucha tendrá la última palabra.
The wicked man is brazenfaced, but the upright man pays heed to his ways.29 El malvado aparenta seguridad, | el honrado está seguro de lo que hace.
There is no wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, against the LORD.30 No hay sabiduría ni prudencia | ni consejo contra el Señor.
The horse is equipped for the day of battle, but victory is the LORD'S.31 Se prepara al caballo para el combate, | la victoria la concede el Señor.
