Proverbs 21

1 Like a stream is the king's heart in the hand of the LORD; wherever it pleases him, he directs it.	1 Il cuore del re è come un rivo d'acqua nelle mani del Signore, Egli lo volgerà dovunque gli piace.
2 All the ways of a man may be right in his own eyes, but it is the LORD who proves hearts.	2 Ad ognuno sembra retta la sua condotta, ma il Signore pesa i cuori.
3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.	3 Praticare la misericordia e la giustizia è più gradito al Signore che i sacrifizi.
4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart-- the tillage of the wicked is sin.	4 Occhio altero vuol dire cuore superbo, fiaccola degli empi è il peccato.
5 The plans of the diligent are sure of profit, but all rash haste leads certainly to poverty.	5 I disegni dell'uomo forte conducon sempre all'abbondanza, ogni pigro è sempre nella miseria.
6 He who makes a fortune by a lying tongue is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.	6 Chi ammassa ricchezze con lingua ingannatrice è vano, senza cervello, e cadrà nei lacci di morte.
7 The oppression of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is right.	7 Le rapine degli empi li precipiteranno nella rovina, perchè non han voluto fare1 ciò che è giusto.
8 The way of the culprit is crooked, but the conduct of the innocent is right.	8 La via dell'uomo perverso è tortuosa, ma la condotta dell'uomo puro è retta.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.	9 Meglio dimorare in un angolo del tetto, che abitare in comoda casa con donna litigiosa.
10 The soul of the wicked man desires evil; his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.	10 L'anima dell'empio desidera il male, non avrà compassione del suo prossimo.
11 When the arrogant man is punished, the simple are the wiser; when the wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.	11 Punito che1 sia l'empio, metterà piti giudizio il semplice, e se frequenterà il sapiente, acquisterà scienza.
12 The just man appraises the house of the wicked: there is one who brings down the wicked to ruin.	12 Il giusto si prende pensiero della casa dell'empio, per ritirare gli empi dal male.
13 He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will himself also call and not be heard.	13 Chi chiude i suoi orecchi al grido del povero, griderà anch'egli e non sarà ascoltato.
14 A secret gift allays anger, and a concealed present, violent wrath.	14 Un regalo fatto in segreto calma l'ira, un dono di sottomano calma il più grande sdegno.
15 To practice justice is a joy for the just, but terror for evildoers.	15 E' una gioia pel giusto praticare la giustizia, è spavento pei malfattori.
16 The man who strays from the way of good sense will abide in the assembly of the shades.	16 L'uomo che1 erra lungi dal cammino della sapienza andrà a stare coi giganti.
17 He who loves pleasure will suffer want; he who loves wine and perfume will not be rich.	17 Chi ama i banchetti sarà nella miseria, chi ama il vino e gli unguenti non potrà arricchire.
18 The wicked man serves as ransom for the just, and the faithless man for the righteous.	18 L'empio è dato pel giusto, l'iniquo per gli uomini onesti.
19 It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and vexatious wife.	19 Meglio abitare in un deserto, che con una donna litigiosa e stizzosa.
20 Precious treasure remains in the house of the wise, but the fool consumes it.	20 Vi son dei tesori preziosi e dell'olio nella casa del giusto, ma l'uomo imprudente li dissiperà.
21 He who pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor.	21 Chi cerca la giustizia e la misericordia troverà vita, giustizia e gloria.
22 The wise man storms a city of the mighty, and overthrows the stronghold in which it trusts.	22 Il saggio dà la scalata alla città dei forti, e distrugge il baluardo in cui essa confidava.
23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from trouble.	23 Chi custodisce la sua bocca e la sua lingua preserva l'anima sua dagli affanni.
24 Arrogant is the name for the man of overbearing pride who acts with scornful effrontery.	24 Il superbo e l'arrogante si chiama ignorante, perchè nella rabbia agisce con superbia.
25 The sluggard's propensity slays him, for his hands refuse to work.	25 I desideri uccidono il pigro, perchè le sue mani non han voluto far nulla.
26 Some are consumed with avarice all the day, but the just man gives unsparingly.	26 Egli di continuo brama e desidera, ma il giusto dona senza mai cessare.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination, the more so when they offer it with a bad intention.	27 I sacrifizi dell'empio sono abbominevoli, perchè sono offèrti i frutti dei peccati.
28 The false witness will perish, but he who listens will finally have his say.	28 Il testimonio bugiardo perirà; l'uomo ubbidiente canterà vittoria.
29 The wicked man is brazenfaced, but the upright man pays heed to his ways.	29 L'empio fa spudoratamente la faccia tosta, ma l'uomo onesto corregge la sua condotta.
30 There is no wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, against the LORD.	30 Non c'è sapienza, non c'è prudenza, non c'è consiglio che valga contro il Signore.
31 The horse is equipped for the day of battle, but victory is the LORD'S.	31 Si prepara il cavallo per il giorno della battaglia, ma è il Signore colui che dà la vittoria.
