1 Like a stream is the king's heart in the hand of the LORD; wherever it pleases him, he directs it.	1 Il cuore del re è un canale d'acqua in mano al Signore: lo dirige dovunque egli vuole.
2 All the ways of a man may be right in his own eyes, but it is the LORD who proves hearts.	2 Agli occhi dell'uomo tutte le sue vie sono rette, ma chi pesa i cuori è il Signore.
3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.	3 Praticare la giustizia e l'equità per il Signore vale più di un sacrificio.
4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart-- the tillage of the wicked is sin.	4 Occhi alteri e cuore superbo, lucerna degli empi, è il peccato.
5 The plans of the diligent are sure of profit, but all rash haste leads certainly to poverty.	5 I piani dell'uomo diligente si risolvono in profitto, ma chi è precipitoso va verso l'indigenza.
6 He who makes a fortune by a lying tongue is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.	6 Accumular tesori a forza di menzogne è vanità effimera di chi cerca la morte.
7 The oppression of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is right.	7 La violenza degli empi li travolge, perché rifiutano di praticare la giustizia.
8 The way of the culprit is crooked, but the conduct of the innocent is right.	8 La via dell'uomo criminale è tortuosa, ma l'innocente è retto nel suo agire.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.	9 È meglio abitare su un angolo del tetto che avere una moglie litigiosa e casa in comune.
10 The soul of the wicked man desires evil; his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.	10 L'anima del malvagio desidera far il male e ai suoi occhi il prossimo non trova pietà.
11 When the arrogant man is punished, the simple are the wiser; when the wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.	11 Quando il beffardo vien punito, l'inesperto diventa saggio e quando il saggio viene istruito, accresce il sapere.
12 The just man appraises the house of the wicked: there is one who brings down the wicked to ruin.	12 Il Giusto osserva la casa dell'empio e precipita gli empi nella sventura.
13 He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will himself also call and not be heard.	13 Chi chiude l'orecchio al grido del povero invocherà a sua volta e non otterrà risposta.
14 A secret gift allays anger, and a concealed present, violent wrath.	14 Un regalo fatto in segreto calma la collera, un dono di sotto mano placa il furore violento.
15 To practice justice is a joy for the just, but terror for evildoers.	15 È una gioia per il giusto che sia fatta giustizia, mentre è un terrore per i malfattori.
16 The man who strays from the way of good sense will abide in the assembly of the shades.	16 L'uomo che si scosta dalla via della saggezza, riposerà nell'assemblea delle ombre dei morti.
17 He who loves pleasure will suffer want; he who loves wine and perfume will not be rich.	17 Diventerà indigente chi ama i piaceri e chi ama vino e profumi non arricchirà.
18 The wicked man serves as ransom for the just, and the faithless man for the righteous.	18 Il malvagio serve da riscatto per il giusto e il perfido per gli uomini retti.
19 It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and vexatious wife.	19 Meglio abitare in un deserto che con una moglie litigiosa e irritabile.
20 Precious treasure remains in the house of the wise, but the fool consumes it.	20 Tesori preziosi e profumi sono nella dimora del saggio, ma lo stolto dilapida tutto.
21 He who pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor.	21 Chi segue la giustizia e la misericordia troverà vita e gloria.
22 The wise man storms a city of the mighty, and overthrows the stronghold in which it trusts.	22 Il saggio assale una città di guerrieri e abbatte la fortezza in cui essa confidava.
23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from trouble.	23 Chi custodisce la bocca e la lingua preserva se stesso dai dispiaceri.
24 Arrogant is the name for the man of overbearing pride who acts with scornful effrontery.	24 Il superbo arrogante si chiama beffardo, egli agisce nell'eccesso dell'insolenza.
25 The sluggard's propensity slays him, for his hands refuse to work.	25 I desideri del pigro lo portano alla morte, perché le sue mani rifiutano di lavorare.
26 Some are consumed with avarice all the day, but the just man gives unsparingly.	26 Tutta la vita l'empio indulge alla cupidigia, mentre il giusto dona senza risparmiare.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination, the more so when they offer it with a bad intention.	27 Il sacrificio degli empi è un abominio, tanto più se offerto con cattiva intenzione.
28 The false witness will perish, but he who listens will finally have his say.	28 Il falso testimone perirà, ma l'uomo che ascolta potrà parlare sempre.
29 The wicked man is brazenfaced, but the upright man pays heed to his ways.	29 L'empio assume un'aria sfrontata, l'uomo retto controlla la propria condotta.
30 There is no wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, against the LORD.	30 Non c'è sapienza, non c'è prudenza, non c'è consiglio di fronte al Signore.
31 The horse is equipped for the day of battle, but victory is the LORD'S.	31 Il cavallo è pronto per il giorno della battaglia, ma al Signore appartiene la vittoria.
