A song; a psalm of David | 1 A canticle of a psalm for David himself. |
My heart is steadfast, God; my heart is steadfast. I will sing and chant praise. | 2 My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and will give praise, with my glory. |
Awake, my soul; awake, lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn. | 3 Arise, my glory; arise, psaltery and harp: I will arise in the morning early. |
I will praise you among the peoples, LORD; I will chant your praise among the nations. | 4 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing unto thee among the populations. |
For your love towers to the heavens; your faithfulness, to the skies. | 5 For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth even unto the clouds. |
Appear on high over the heavens, God; may your glory appear above all the earth. | 6 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory over all the earth: |
Help with your right hand and answer us that your loved ones may escape. | 7 that thy beloved may be delivered. Save with thy right hand and hear me. |
God promised in the sanctuary: "I will exult, I will apportion Shechem; the valley of Succoth I will measure out. | 8 God hath spoken in his holiness. I will rejoice, and I will divide Sichem and I will mete out the vale of tabernacles. |
Gilead is mine, mine is Manasseh; Ephraim is the helmet for my head, Judah, my own scepter. | 9 Galaad is mine, and Manasses is mine and Ephraim the protection of my head. Juda is my king: |
Moab is my washbowl; upon Edom I cast my sandal; I will triumph over Philistia." | 10 Moab the pot of my hope. Over Edom I will stretch out my shoe: the aliens are become my friends. |
Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me into Edom? | 11 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom? |
Was it not you who rejected us, God? Do you no longer march with our armies? | 12 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our armies? |
Give us aid against the foe; worthless is human help. | 13 O grant us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. |
We will triumph with the help of God, who will trample down our foes. | 14 Through God we shall do mightily: and he will bring our enemies to nothing. |
