1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:	1 Allora prese la parola Baldad Suhite, e disse:
2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!	2 « Fino a quando terrai tali discorsi, e saranno come vento impetuoso le parole della tua bocca?
3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?	3 Può forse Dio pervertire il giudizio, e l'Onnipotente sovvertir la giustizia?
4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,	4 Anche se i tuoi figli han peccato contro di lui ed egli li ha dati in balìa della loro iniquità,
5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,	5 se tu t'affretti per tornare a Dio, e supplichi l'Onnipotente,
6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;	6 se vivrai con purezza e rettitudine, subito Egli veglierà su te, e renderà felice l'abitazione della tua giustizia,
7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.	7 in modo che, se furon pochi i tuoi beni di prima, quelli che avrai dopo siano oltremodo moltiplicati.
8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers	8 Infatti interroga le passate generazioni, ricerca con diligenza le memorie dei padri
9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),	9 (chè noi siamo di ieri, e nulla sappiamo, perchè i giorni nostri sulla terra non sono che un'ombra)
10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?	10 ed essi t'istruiranno, ti parleranno e trarranno dal loro cuore le sentenze.
11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?	11 Può forse il giunco verdeggiare senza umidità, e l'erbe acquatiche fuori dello stagno?
12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.	12 Mentre sono ancora in fiore, da nessuno colte, seccano prima di tutte le altre erbe.
13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.	13 Tale è la sorte di tutti quelli che dimenticano Dio, e la speranza dell'ipocrita perirà;
14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.	14 non gli piacerà la sua stoltezza, e la sua fiducia sarà come una tela di ragno;
15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.	15 s'appoggerà alla sua casa; ma essa non reggerà; le metterà dei puntelli; ma essa non starà ritta.
16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;	16 Sembra verdeggiante prima che venga il sole, i suoi rami si protenderanno fuori del giardino,
17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.	17 le sue radici moltiplicheranno sopra un ammasso di pietre, vegeterà tra le pietre;
18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"	18 ma se lo svelgono dal suo posto, questo lo rinnegherà, dicendo: Non ti conosco.
19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.	19 Tale è la lieta sorte di lui e da quella terra ne verran su altri.
20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.	20 Dio non rigetta l'intemerato, nè tien mano ai malvagi:
21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Egli riempirà ancora di sorrisi la tua bocca e le tue labbra di giubilo;
22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.	22 coloro che ti odiano saran coperti di confusione, e non sussisterà la tenda degli empi ».
