Job 8

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:	1 Bildad de Shuah prit la parole et dit:
2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!	2 Jusqu'à quand parleras-tu de la sorte et tiendras-tu des propos semblables à un grand vent?
3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?	3 Dieu peut-il fléchir le droit, Shaddaï fausser la justice?
4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,	4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a punis pour leurs fautes.
5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,	5 Recherche Dieu, implore Shaddaï.
6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;	6 Pour toi, si tu es irréprochable et droit, Dès maintenant, sa lumière brillera sur toi et il restaurera lamaison d'un juste.
7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.	7 Ta condition ancienne te paraîtra comme rien, si grand sera ton avenir.
8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers	8 Interroge la génération passée, médite sur l'expérience acquise par ses pères.
9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),	9 Nous, nés d'hier, nous ne savons rien, notre vie sur terre passe comme une ombre.
10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?	10 Mais eux, ils t'instruiront, te parleront, et leur pensée livrera ces sentences:
11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?	11 "Le papyrus pousse-t-il hors des marais? Privé d'eau, le jonc peut-il croître?
12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.	12 Quand il est encore dans sa fraîcheur et non cueilli, avant toute autre herbe il se dessèche.
13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.	13 Tel est le sort de ceux qui oublient Dieu, ainsi périt l'espoir de l'impie.
14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.	14 Sa confiance n'est que filandre, sa sécurité, une maison d'araignée.
15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.	15 S'appuie-t-il sur sa demeure, elle cède; s'y cramponne-t-il, elle s'écroule.
16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;	16 Plein de sève au soleil, au-dessus du jardin il lançait ses jeunes pousses.
17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.	17 Ses racines entrelacées sur un tertre pierreux, il puisait sa vie au milieu des rochers.
18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"	18 On l'arrache de son lieu; son lieu le renie: Je ne t'ai jamais vu!
19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.	19 Et le voilà pourrissant sur le chemin, tandis que du sol, d'autres germent.
20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.	20 Non, Dieu ne rejette pas l'homme intègre, il ne prête pas main-forte aux méchants.
21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Le rire peut de nouveau remplir ta bouche, la joie éclater sur tes lèvres.
22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.	22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et la tente des méchants disparaîtra."
