1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:	1 Bildad de Chouah prit la parole et dit:
2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!	2 Jusqu’à quand vas-tu prolonger ce discours, et ces paroles, comme un vent qui n’en finit pas?
3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?	3 Dieu est-il capable de tourner la justice? Le Tout-Puissant fausserait-il le droit?
4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,	4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a fait payer pour leurs fautes.
5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,	5 Mais si toi tu as recours à Dieu, si tu implores le Tout-Puissant,
6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;	6 si toi, tu es pur et droit, aussitôt il prendra soin de toi pour te mettre en la demeure que mérite ta droiture.
7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.	7 Le passé te semblera peu de chose tant l’avenir sera meilleur.
8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers	8 Demande à l’ancienne génération, et remonte à l’expérience de leurs pères.
9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),	9 Car nous sommes nés d’hier et ne savons guère, nos jours passent sur terre comme une ombre.
10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?	10 Mais eux peuvent t’instruire et te parler, et ces quelques mots te diront ce qu’ils sentent:
11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?	11 “Le papyrus va-t-il pousser hors des marais? Le roseau se développera-t-il sans eau?
12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.	12 Même vert, avant qu’on le coupe avant toute autre plante il se déssèche”.
13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.	13 C’est ainsi que termine celui qui oublie Dieu, et que se perdent les espoirs de l’impie.
14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.	14 Sa confiance s’accrochait à un fil, il faisait fond sur une toile d’araignée.
15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.	15 Il s’appuie sur sa maison, et elle cède, il s’y accroche: elle s’écroule.
16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;	16 Il était plein de vigueur au soleil et couvrait le jardin de ses jeunes pousses:
17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.	17 ses racines serpentaient sur la pente, elles s’accrochaient entre les roches.
18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"	18 À peine l’as-tu arraché de sa place, elle le renie: “Je ne t’ai jamais vu!”
19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.	19 Le voilà pourrissant sur le chemin: un autre bientôt est sorti du sol.
20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.	20 Non! Dieu ne méprise pas celui qui est parfait, pas plus qu’il ne soutient ceux qui sont malfaisants.
21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Il remplira encore ta bouche de rires, et mettra sur tes lèvres les cris de joie.
22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.	22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et l’on ne verra plus la demeure des méchants.
