1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:	1 Ma Baldad di Sudi prese la parola, e disse:
2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!	2 Fino a quando discorrerai tu in simil guisa, e le parole della tua bocca saranno un vento furioso?
3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?	3 Forse Dio non è retto nel giudicare, e l'Onnipotente altera la giustizia?
4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,	4 Abbenchè abbiano i tuoi figliuoli peccato contro di lui, ed ei gli abbia lasciati in balìa della loro iniquità,
5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,	5 Nulladimeno se tu con sollecitudine ricorri a Dio, e preghi l'Onnipotente:
6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;	6 Se camminerai con innocenza, e rettitudine, egli tosto si sveglierà in tuo soccorso, e la pace renderà all'abitazione di tua innocenza:
7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.	7 Talmente che se i tuoi principj furono piccoli, l'ultimo stato tuo sarà grande oltre modo.
8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers	8 Imperocché interroga le passate generazioni, e diligentemente riscontrai le memorie de' padri:
9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),	9 (Perocché noi siamo di jeri, e siamo ignoranti, mentre un'ombra sono i giorni nostri sopra la terra.)
10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?	10 E quelli ti istruiranno, parleranno a te, e dal cuor loro metteran fuora le lor sentenze.
11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?	11 Può egli il giunco serbarsi verde senza l'umore, o crescere senz'acqua la carice?
12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.	12 Mentre ella è in vigore, senza che mano alcuna la offenda inaridisce prima che tutte le altre erbe:
13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.	13 Tal' è la sorte di tutti quelli, che si scordano di Dio: così la speranza dell'ipocrita andrà in fumo:
14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.	14 Ei non si vanterà di sua stoltezza, e la sua fidanza sarà qual tela di ragno.
15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.	15 Egli si appoggerà alla sua casa, e questa traballerà; la appuntellerà, e non istarà ritta:
16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;	16 Una pianta si vede fresca prima che venga il sole, e nel suol nativo germoglia.
17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.	17 Le sue radici si implicano in una massa di pietre, ed ella vive trai sassi.
18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"	18 Se uno la svellerà dal suo sito, ella vi rinunzierà dicendo: Non ho che fare con te.
19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.	19 Perocché la fortuna di sua condizione è questa, che altri polloni spuntino di nuovo da quella terra.
20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.	20 Dio non rigetta l'uomo dabbene, ma non porgerà la mano ai malvagj:
21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Tu una volta avrai in bocca il riso, e sulle tue labbra canti di allegrezza.
22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.	22 Coloro che ti odiano saranno coperti di confusione; ma il padiglione degli empj non sussisterà.
