1 At this my heart trembles and leaps out of its place,	1 Per questo mi batte forte il cuore e mi balza fuori dal petto.
2 To hear his angry voice as it rumbles forth from his mouth!	2 Udite attentamente il rumore della sua voce, il fragore che esce dalla sua bocca.
3 Everywhere under the heavens he sends it, with his lightning, to the ends of the earth.	3 Egli lo diffonde per tutto il cielo e la sua folgore giunge ai lembi della terra;
4 Again his voice roars-- the majestic sound of his thunder.	4 dietro di essa ruggisce una voce, egli tuona con la sua voce maestosa: nulla può arrestare il lampo appena si ode la sua voce.
5 He does great things beyond our knowing; wonders past our searching out.	5 Dio tuona mirabilmente con la sua voce, opera meraviglie che non comprendiamo!
6 For he says to the snow, "Fall to the earth"; likewise to his heavy, drenching rain.	6 Egli infatti dice alla neve: “Cadi sulla terra” e alle piogge torrenziali: “Siate violente”.
7 He shuts up all mankind indoors;	7 Nella mano di ogni uomo pone un sigillo, perché tutti riconoscano la sua opera.
8 the wild beasts take to cover and remain quietly in their dens.	8 Le belve si ritirano nei loro nascondigli e si accovacciano nelle loro tane.
9 Out of its chamber comes forth the tempest; from the north winds, the cold.	9 Dalla regione australe avanza l’uragano e il gelo dal settentrione.
10 With his breath God brings the frost, and the broad waters become congealed.	10 Al soffio di Dio si forma il ghiaccio e le distese d’acqua si congelano.
11 With hail, also, the clouds are laden, as they scatter their flashes of light.	11 Carica di umidità le nuvole e le nubi ne diffondono le folgori.
12 He it is who changes their rounds, according to his plans, in their task upon the surface of the earth,	12 Egli le fa vagare dappertutto secondo i suoi ordini, perché eseguano quanto comanda loro su tutta la faccia della terra.
13 whether for punishment or mercy, as he commands.	13 Egli le manda o per castigo del mondo o in segno di bontà.
14 Hearken to this, O Job! Stand and consider the wondrous works of God!	14 Porgi l’orecchio a questo, Giobbe, férmati e considera le meraviglie di Dio.
15 Do you know how God lays his commands upon them, and makes the light shine forth from his clouds?	15 Sai tu come Dio le governa e come fa brillare il lampo dalle nubi?
16 Do you know how the clouds are banked, the wondrous work of him who is perfect in knowledge?	16 Conosci tu come le nuvole si muovono in aria? Sono i prodigi di colui che ha una scienza perfetta.
17 You, whom the streams of water fail when a calm from the south comes over the land,	17 Sai tu perché le tue vesti sono roventi, quando la terra è in letargo sotto il soffio dello scirocco?
18 Do you spread out with him the firmament of the skies, hard as a brazen mirror?	18 Hai tu forse disteso con lui il firmamento, solido come specchio di metallo fuso?
19 Teach us then what we shall say to him; we cannot, for the darkness, make our plea.	19 Facci sapere che cosa possiamo dirgli! Noi non siamo in grado di esprimerci perché avvolti nelle tenebre.
20 Will he be told about it when I speak, or when a man says he is being destroyed?	20 Gli viene forse riferito se io parlo, o, se uno parla, ne viene informato?
21 Nay, rather, it is as the light which men see not while it is obscured among the clouds, till the wind comes by and sweeps the clouds away.	21 All’improvviso la luce diventa invisibile, oscurata dalle nubi: poi soffia il vento e le spazza via.
22 From the North the splendor comes, surrounding God's awesome majesty!	22 Dal settentrione giunge un aureo chiarore, intorno a Dio è tremenda maestà.
23 The Almighty! we cannot discover him, pre-eminent in power and judgment; his great justice owes no one an accounting.	23 L’Onnipotente noi non possiamo raggiungerlo, sublime in potenza e rettitudine, grande per giustizia: egli non opprime.
24 Therefore men revere him, though none can see him, however wise their hearts.	24 Perciò lo temono tutti gli uomini, ma egli non considera quelli che si credono sapienti!».
