Job 35

1 Then Elihu proceeded and said:	1 Dann ergriff Elihu das Wort und sprach:
2 Do you think it right to say, "I am just rather than God?"	2 Hältst du das für ein Rechtsverfahren? Du behauptest bloß: Gerecht bin ich vor Gott.
3 To say, "What does it profit me; what advantage have I more than if I had sinned?"	3 Du sagst: Was nützt es mir, was habe ich davon, dass ich nicht sündige?
4 I have words for a reply to you and your three companions as well.	4 Ich will mit Worten dir erwidern und deinen Freunden auch mit dir.
5 Look up to the skies and behold; regard the heavens high above you.	5 Schau den Himmel an und sieh, blick zu den Wolken auf hoch über dir!
6 If you sin, what injury do you do to God? Even if your offenses are many, how do you hurt him?	6 Wenn du gesündigt hast, was tust du ihm, sind zahlreich deine Frevel, was schadest du ihm?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give him, or what does he receive from your hand?	7 Tust du recht, was gibst du ihm oder was empfängt er aus deiner Hand?
8 Your wickedness can affect only a man like yourself; and your justice only a fellow human being.	8 Menschen wie dich trifft dein Frevel, dein Gerechtsein nur die Menschenkinder.
9 In great oppression men cry out; they call for help because of the power of the mighty,	9 Sie schreien über der Bedrücker Menge, rufen um Hilfe unter dem Arm der Großen.
10 Saying, "Where is God, my Maker, who has given visions in the night,	10 Doch keiner fragt: Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, der Loblieder schenkt bei Nacht,
11 Taught us rather than the beasts of the earth, and made us wise rather than the birds of the heavens?"	11 der uns mehr lehrt als die Tiere der Erde und uns weiser macht als die Vögel des Himmels?
12 Though thus they cry out, he answers not against the pride of the wicked.	12 Dort schreien sie und doch antwortet er nicht wegen des Übermuts der Bösen.
13 But it is idle to say God does not hear or that the Almighty does not take notice.	13 Wahrhaftig umsonst, Gott hört es nicht und der Allmächtige sieht es nicht an.
14 Even though you say that you see him not, the case is before him; with trembling should you wait upon him.	14 Gar wenn du sagst, du sähest ihn nicht - das Gericht steht bei ihm, du aber harre auf ihn!
15 But now that you have done otherwise, God's anger punishes, nor does he show concern that a man will die.	15 Jetzt aber, da sein Zorn nicht straft und er nicht groß des Frevels achtet,
16 Yet Job to no purpose opens his mouth, and without knowledge multiplies words.	16 reißt Ijob sinnlos auf den Mund, macht große Worte im Unverstand.
