1 Then Job spoke again and said:	1 Da antwortete Hiob folgendermaßen:
2 What help you give to the powerless, what strength to the feeble arm!	2 »Wie hast du doch dem Schwachen beigestanden und den kraftlosen Arm gestützt!
3 How you counsel, as though he had no wisdom; how profuse is the advice you offer!	3 Wie gut hast du doch den Unweisen beraten und tiefes Wissen in Fülle kundgetan!
4 With whose help have you uttered those words, and whose is the breath that comes forth from you?	4 Wem hast du einen Lehrvortrag gehalten, und wessen Odem (oder: Geist) ist dir entströmt (= hat aus dir gesprochen)?«
5 The shades beneath writhe in terror, the waters, and their inhabitants.	5 »Die Schatten erzittern (vor Gott) tief unter den Wassern und deren Bewohnern;
6 Naked before him is the nether world, and Abaddon has no covering.	6 nackt (= entblößt) liegt das Totenreich vor ihm da und unverhüllt der Abgrund (= die Unterwelt).
7 He stretches out the North over empty space, and suspends the earth over nothing at all;	7 Er spannt den Norden (der Erde) über der Leere aus, hängt die Erde an dem Nichts auf.
8 He binds up the waters in his clouds, yet the cloud is not rent by their weight;	8 Er bindet die Wasser in seine Wolken ein, ohne daß das Gewölk unter ihrer Last zerplatzt.
9 He holds back the appearance of the full moon by spreading his clouds before it.	9 Er verhüllt den Anblick seines Thrones, indem er sein Gewölk über ihn ausbreitet.
10 He has marked out a circle on the surface of the deep as the boundary of light and darkness.	10 Eine Grenzlinie hat er über den weiten Wassern abgezirkelt bis zur äußersten Grenze, wo das Licht mit der Finsternis zusammentrifft.
11 The pillars of the heavens tremble and are stunned at his thunderous rebuke;	11 Die Säulen des Himmels geraten ins Wanken und beben infolge seines Scheltens.
12 By his power he stirs up the sea, and by his might he crushes Rahab;	12 Durch seine Kraft beruhigt er das Meer, und durch seine Klugheit hat er Rahab (= Ungetüme; vgl. 9,13) zerschmettert.
13 With his angry breath he scatters the waters, and he hurls the lightning against them relentlessly; His hand pierces the fugitive dragon as from his hand it strives to flee.	13 Durch seinen Hauch gewinnt der Himmel Heiterkeit; durchbohrt hat seine Hand den flüchtigen Drachen (vgl. 9,13).
14 Lo, these are but the outlines of his ways, and how faint is the word we hear!	14 Siehe, das sind nur die Säume seines Waltens, und welch ein leises Flüstern nur ist es, das wir von ihm vernehmen! Doch die Donnersprache seiner Machterweise – wer versteht diese?«
