Job 26

NEW AMERICAN BIBLEJERUSALEM
Then Job spoke again and said:1 Job prit la parole et dit:
What help you give to the powerless, what strength to the feeble arm!2 Comme tu sais bien soutenir le faible, secourir le bras sans vigueur!
How you counsel, as though he had no wisdom; how profuse is the advice you offer!3 Quels bons conseils tu donnes à l'ignorant, comme ton savoir est fertile en ressources!
With whose help have you uttered those words, and whose is the breath that comes forth from you?4 Mais ces discours, à qui s'adressent-ils, et d'où provient l'esprit qui sort de toi?
The shades beneath writhe in terror, the waters, and their inhabitants.5 Les Ombres tremblent sous terre, les eaux et leurs habitants sont dans l'effroi.
Naked before him is the nether world, and Abaddon has no covering.6 Devant lui, le Shéol est à nu, la Perdition à découvert.
He stretches out the North over empty space, and suspends the earth over nothing at all;7 C'est lui qui a étendu le Septentrion sur le vide, suspendu la terre sans appui.
He binds up the waters in his clouds, yet the cloud is not rent by their weight;8 Il enferme les eaux dans ses nuages. Sans que la nuée crève sous leur poids.
He holds back the appearance of the full moon by spreading his clouds before it.9 Il couvre la face de la pleine lune et déploie sur elle sa nuée.
He has marked out a circle on the surface of the deep as the boundary of light and darkness.10 Il a tracé un cercle à la surface des eaux, aux confins de la lumière et des ténèbres.
The pillars of the heavens tremble and are stunned at his thunderous rebuke;11 Les colonnes des cieux sont ébranlées, frappées de stupeur quand il menace.
By his power he stirs up the sea, and by his might he crushes Rahab;12 Par sa force, il a brassé la Mer, par son habileté, écrasé Rahab.
With his angry breath he scatters the waters, and he hurls the lightning against them relentlessly; His hand pierces the fugitive dragon as from his hand it strives to flee.13 Son souffle a clarifié les Cieux, sa main transpercé le Serpent Fuyard.
Lo, these are but the outlines of his ways, and how faint is the word we hear!14 Tout cela, c'est l'extérieur de ses oeuvres, et nous n'en saisissons qu'un faible écho. Mais le tonnerrede sa puissance, qui le comprendra?
