NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
"The Dwelling itself you shall make out of sheets woven of fine linen twined and of violet, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim embroidered on them.1 Tabernaculum vero ita facies : decem cortinas de bysso retorta, et hyacintho, ac purpura, coccoque bis tincto, variatas opere plumario facies.
The length of each shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width four cubits; all the sheets shall be of the same size.2 Longitudo cortinæ unius habebit viginti octo cubitos : latitudo, quatuor cubitorum erit. Unius mensuræ fient universa tentoria.
Five of the sheets are to be sewed together, edge to edge; and the same for the other five.3 Quinque cortinæ sibi jungentur mutuo, et aliæ quinque nexu simili cohærebunt.
Make loops of violet yarn along the edge of the end sheet in one set, and the same along the edge of the end sheet in the other set.4 Ansulas hyacinthinas in lateribus ac summitatibus facies cortinarum, ut possint invicem copulari.
There are to be fifty loops along the edge of the end sheet in the first set, and fifty loops along the edge of the corresponding sheet in the second set, and so placed that the loops are directly opposite each other.5 Quinquagenas ansulas cortina habebit in utraque parte, ita insertas ut ansa contra ansam veniat, et altera alteri possit aptari.
Then make fifty clasps of gold, with which to join the two sets of sheets, so that the Dwelling forms one whole.6 Facies et quinquaginta circulos aureos quibus cortinarum vela jungenda sunt, ut unum tabernaculum fiat.
"Also make sheets woven of goat hair, to be used as a tent covering over the Dwelling.7 Facies et saga cilicina undecim, ad operiendum tectum tabernaculi.
Eleven such sheets are to be made; the length of each shall be thirty cubits, and the width four cubits: all eleven sheets shall be of the same size.8 Longitudo sagi unius habebit triginta cubitos, et latitudo, quatuor : æqua erit mensura sagorum omnium.
Sew five of the sheets, edge to edge, into one set, and the other six sheets into another set. Use the sixth sheet double at the front of the tent.9 E quibus quinque junges seorsum, et sex sibi mutuo copulabis, ita ut sextum sagum in fronte tecti duplices.
Make fifty loops along the edge of the end sheet in one set, and fifty loops along the edge of the end sheet in the second set.10 Facies et quinquaginta ansas in ora sagi unius, ut conjungi cum altero queat, et quinquaginta ansas in ora sagi alterius, ut cum altero copuletur.
Also make fifty bronze clasps and put them into the loops, to join the tent into one whole.11 Facies et quinquaginta fibulas æneas quibus jungantur ansæ, ut unum ex omnibus operimentum fiat.
There will be an extra half sheet of tent covering, which shall be allowed to hang down over the rear of the Dwelling.12 Quod autem superfuerit in sagis quæ parantur tecto, id est unum sagum quod amplius est, ex medietate ejus operies posteriora tabernaculi.
Likewise, the sheets of the tent will have an extra cubit's length to be left hanging down on either side of the Dwelling to protect it.13 Et cubitus ex una parte pendebit, et alter ex altera qui plus est in sagorum longitudine, utrumque latus tabernaculi protegens.
Over the tent itself you shall make a covering of rams' skins dyed red, and above that, a covering of tahash skins.14 Facies et operimentum aliud tecto de pellibus arietum rubricatis : et super hoc rursum aliud operimentum de janthinis pellibus.
"You shall make boards of acacia wood as walls for the Dwelling.15 Facies et tabulas stantes tabernaculi de lignis setim,
The length of each board is to be ten cubits, and its width one and a half cubits.16 quæ singulæ denos cubitos in longitudine habeant, et in latitudine singulos ac semissem.
Each board shall have two arms that shall serve to fasten the boards in line. In this way all the boards of the Dwelling are to be made.17 In lateribus tabulæ, duæ incastraturæ fient, quibus tabula alteri tabulæ connectatur : atque in hunc modum cunctæ tabulæ parabuntur.
Set up the boards of the Dwelling as follows: twenty boards on the south side,18 Quarum viginti erunt in latere meridiano quod vergit ad austrum.
with forty silver pedestals under the twenty boards, so that there are two pedestals under each board, at its two arms;19 Quibus quadraginta bases argenteas fundes, ut binæ bases singulis tabulis per duos angulos subjiciantur.
twenty boards on the other side of the Dwelling, the north side,20 In latere quoque secundo tabernaculi quod vergit ad aquilonem, viginti tabulæ erunt,
with their forty silver pedestals, two under each board;21 quadraginta habentes bases argenteas, binæ bases singulis tabulis supponentur.
six boards for the rear of the Dwelling, to the west;22 Ad occidentalem vero plagam tabernaculi facies sex tabulas,
and two boards for the corners at the rear of the Dwelling.23 et rursum alias duas quæ in angulis erigantur post tergum tabernaculi.
These two shall be double at the bottom, and likewise double at the top, to the first ring. That is how both boards in the corners are to be made.24 Eruntque conjunctæ a deorsum usque sursum, et una omnes compago retinebit. Duabus quoque tabulis quæ in angulis ponendæ sunt, similis junctura servabitur.
Thus, there shall be in the rear eight boards, with their sixteen silver pedestals, two pedestals under each board.25 Et erunt simul tabulæ octo, bases earum argenteæ sedecim, duabus basibus per unam tabulam supputatis.
Also make bars of acacia wood: five for the boards on one side of the Dwelling,26 Facies et vectes de lignis setim quinque ad continendas tabulas in uno latere tabernaculi,
five for those on the other side, and five for those at the rear, toward the west.27 et quinque alios in altero, et ejusdem numeri ad occidentalem plagam :
The center bar, at the middle of the boards, shall reach across from end to end.28 qui mittentur per medias tabulas a summo usque ad summum.
Plate the boards with gold, and make gold rings on them as holders for the bars, which are also to be plated with gold.29 Ipsas quoque tabulas deaurabis, et fundes in eis annulos aureos per quos vectes tabulata contineant : quos operies laminis aureis.
You shall erect the Dwelling according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.30 Et eriges tabernaculum juxta exemplar quod tibi in monte monstratum est.
"You shall have a veil woven of violet, purple and scarlet yarn, and of fine linen twined, with cherubim embroidered on it.31 Facies et velum de hyacintho, et purpura, coccoque bis tincto, et bysso retorta, opere plumario et pulchra varietate contextum :
It is to be hung on four gold-plated columns of acacia wood, which shall have hooks of gold and shall rest on four silver pedestals.32 quod appendes ante quatuor columnas de lignis setim, quæ ipsæ quidem deauratæ erunt, et habebunt capita aurea, sed bases argenteas.
Hang the veil from clasps. The ark of the commandments you shall bring inside, behind this veil which divides the holy place from the holy of holies.33 Inseretur autem velum per circulos, intra quod pones arcam testimonii, quo et sanctuarium, et sanctuarii sanctuaria dividentur.
Set the propitiatory on the ark of the commandments in the holy of holies.34 Pones et propitiatorium super arcam testimonii in Sancto sanctorum,
"Outside the veil you shall place the table and the lampstand, the latter on the south side of the Dwelling, opposite the table, which is to be put on the north side.35 mensamque extra velum, et contra mensam candelabrum in latere tabernaculi meridiano : mensa enim stabit in parte aquilonis.
For the entrance of the tent make a variegated curtain of violet, purple and scarlet yarn and of fine linen twined.36 Facies et tentorium in introitu tabernaculi de hyacintho, et purpura, coccoque bis tincto, et bysso retorta, opere plumarii.
Make five columns of acacia wood for this curtain; have them plated with gold, with their hooks of gold; and cast five bronze pedestals for them.37 Et quinque columnas deaurabis lignorum setim, ante quas ducetur tentorium : quarum erunt capita aurea, et bases æneæ.
