KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
