KING JAMES BIBLE | NEW JERUSALEM |
---|---|
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; | 1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone, |
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. | 2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety. |
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; | 3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour: |
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. | 4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth. |
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; | 5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus, |
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. | 6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time, |
Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. | 7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth. |
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. | 8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument. |
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; | 9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes; |
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. | 10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious. |
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. | 11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful. |
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. | 12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet, |
For Adam was first formed, then Eve. | 13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards, |
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. | 14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin. |
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. | 15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness. |
