KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;1 First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone,
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.2 for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;3 This is good and pleasing to God our savior,
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.4 who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;5 For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human,
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.6 who gave himself as ransom for all. This was the testimony at the proper time.
Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.7 For this I was appointed preacher and apostle (I am speaking the truth, I am not lying), teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.8 It is my wish, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;9 Similarly, (too,) women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes,
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.10 but rather, as befits women who profess reverence for God, with good deeds.
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.11 A woman must receive instruction silently and under complete control.
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet.
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.14 Further, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.15 But she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
