LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: | 1 A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his anxious care; |
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; | 2 How he swore an oath to the LORD, vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; | 3 "I will not enter the house where I live, nor lie on the couch where I sleep; |
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, | 4 I will give my eyes no sleep, my eyelids no rest, |
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. | 5 Till I find a home for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. | 6 "We have heard of it in Ephrathah; we have found it in the fields of Jaar. |
We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. | 7 Let us enter God's dwelling; let us worship at God's footstool." |
Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. | 8 "Arise, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your majestic ark. |
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. | 9 Your priests will be clothed with justice; your faithful will shout for joy." |
For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. | 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed. |
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. | 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a pledge never to be broken: "Your own offspring I will set upon your throne. |
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. | 12 If your sons observe my covenant, the laws I shall teach them, Their sons, in turn, shall sit forever on your throne." |
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. | 13 Yes, the LORD has chosen Zion, desired it for a dwelling: |
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. | 14 "This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I desire it. |
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15 I will bless Zion with meat; its poor I will fill with bread. |
I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16 I will clothe its priests with blessing; its faithful shall shout for joy. |
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. | 17 There I will make a horn sprout for David's line; I will set a lamp for my anointed. |
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. | 18 His foes I will clothe with shame, but on him my crown shall gleam." |
