1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,	1 Poi Eliu, continuando a parlare, disse:
2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.	2 « Sopportami un poco, e t'istruirò, perchè ho ancora da parlare in difesa di Dio.
3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.	3 Prenderò la mia scienza dal suo principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto.
4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.	4 Per certo i miei discorsi sono senza menzogna, e la mia perfetta scienza ti sarà provata.
5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.	5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, perchè egli stesso è potente,
6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.	6 ma non salva gli empi, e fa giustizia ai poveri.
7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.	7 Egli non toglie i suoi occhi dal giusto. Egli colloca per sempre i re sul trono ed essi sono esaltati
8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;	8 e se sono stretti in camene e avvinti dai legami della miseria,
9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.	9 iddio farà loro veder le loro opere, le loro sceleratezze, le loro violenze,
10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.	10 aprirà pure loro le orecchie per correggerli, e parlerà loro perchè si ritraggano dall'iniquità.
11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.	11 Se ascolteranno, e obbediranno, finiranno i loro giorni nella felicità, e i loro anni nella gloria;
12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.	12 ma se non ascolteranno, passeran per la spada e periranno nella loro stoltezza.
13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.	13 I simulatori e i doppi di cuore provocano l'ira di Dio; nè implorano Dio quando sono in catene.
14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.	14 La loro anima perirà nella tempesta e la loro vita perirà tra gli effeminati.
15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.	15 Dio libererà il povero dalle strettezze, e gli aprirà l'orecchio nella tribolazione.
16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.	16 Egli adunque ti salverà dall'abisso stretto e senza fondo, e ti metterà al laigo, e ti riposerai alla tua mensa, carica di grasse vivande.
17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.	17 La tua causa è stata giudicata come quella d'un empio: riceverai secondo la causa e la condanna.
18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.	18 Dunque non ti far prendere dall'ira in modo da opprimere qualcuno, e non andar fuori di strada per la gran quantità dei doni.
19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.	19 Umilia la tua grandezza, senza esservi costretto dalla sferza, ciò che è forte e potente.
20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.	20 Non protrarre la notte, affinchè nel luo go di essi salgano i popoli.
21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.	21 Guardati dall'andar verso l'iniquità, perchè cominciasti a seguirla dopo la miseria.
22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?	22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza, e nessun dei legislatori è simile a lui.
23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?	23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? Chi può dirgli: Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?
24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.	24 Ricordati che tu non comprendi la sua opera, dagli uomini celebrata coi canti.
25 Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.	25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.
26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.	26 Ecco, Dio è grande e sorpassa ogni nostra scienza, il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.
27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:	27 Egli distacca le stille della pioggia e versa gli acquazzoni a torrenti,
28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.	28 che erompono dalle nubi, le quali coprono tutto in alto.
29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?	29 Egli distende quando vuole le nuvole, come la sua tenda,
30 Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.	30 e di lassù manda folgori e lampi, e copre gli ultimi lidi del mare.
31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.	31 Con questi mezzi egli giudica i popoli e dà nutrimento a gran numero di morteli.
32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.	32 nelle sue mani nasconde la luce e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.
33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.	33 Egli fa capire a chi lo ama che essa è in suo dominio e che ad essa può salire ».
