1 After these things was a festival day of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 Darauf war Festtag der Juden, und Jesus ging hinauf nach Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem a pond, called Probatica, which in Hebrew is named Bethsaida, having five porches.	2 In Jerusalem ist beim Schaftor ein Teich, der auf hebräisch Bethesda heißt, mit fünf Hallen.
3 In these lay a great multitude of sick, of blind, of lame, of withered; waiting for the moving of the water.	3 In diesen lag eine Menge von Kranken, Blinden, Lahmen und Schwindsüchtigen, die auf die Bewegung des Wassers warteten.
4 And an angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water, was made whole, of whatsoever infirmity he lay under.	4 Ein Engel [des Herrn] stieg nämlich von Zeit zu Zeit auf den Teich hernieder und brachte das Wasser in Wallung; wer nun als erster nach der Wallung des Wassers hineinstieg, wurde gesund, an welcher Krankheit er auch leiden mochte.
5 And there was a certain man there, that had been eight and thirty years under his infirmity.	5 Nun war dort ein Mann, der seit achtunddreißig Jahren an seiner Krankheit litt.
6 Him when Jesus had seen lying, and knew that he had been now a long time, he saith to him: Wilt thou be made whole?	6 Als Jesus ihn daliegen sah und erfuhr, daß er schon lange Zeit so daran war, sprach er zu ihm: "Willst du gesund werden?"
7 The infirm man answered him: Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pond. For whilst I am coming, another goeth down before me.	7 Der Kranke antwortete ihm: "Herr, ich habe keinen Menschen, der mich in den Teich brächte, wenn das Wasser in Wallung kommt; denn während ich hingehe, steigt ein anderer vor mir hinab."
8 Jesus saith to him: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.	8 Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Steh auf, nimm dein Bett und gehe!"
9 And immediately the man was made whole: and he took up his bed, and walked. And it was the sabbath that day.	9 Und sogleich wurde der Mann gesund; er nahm sein Bett und ging einher. Es war aber Sabbat an jenem Tage.
10 The Jews therefore said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.	10 Da sagten die Juden zum Geheilten: "Es ist Sabbat, und es ist dir nicht gestattet, das Bett zu tragen!"
11 He answered them: He that made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.	11 Er aber antwortete ihnen: "Der mich gesund machte, sprach zu mir: Nimm dein Bett und gehe!"
12 They asked him therefore: Who is that man who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?	12 Sie fragten ihn nun: "Wer ist der Mensch, der zu dir sagte: Nimm dein Bett und gehe!?"
13 But he who was healed, knew not who it was; for Jesus went aside from the multitude standing in the place.	13 Der Geheilte aber wußte nicht, wer es sei; Jesus war nämlich weitergegangen, da viel Volk am Platze war.
14 Afterwards, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and saith to him: Behold thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee.	14 Hernach traf ihn Jesus im Tempel und sprach zu ihm: "Siehe, du bist gesund geworden; sündige nicht mehr, daß dir nicht etwas Schlimmeres widerfahre."
15 The man went his way, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had made him whole.	15 Der Mann ging hin und sagte den Juden, daß es Jesus sei, der ihn gesund gemacht habe.
16 Therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.	16 Deshalb verfolgten die Juden Jesus, weil er dies am Sabbat getan hatte.
17 But Jesus answered them: My Father worketh until now; and I work.	17 Jesus aber entgegnete ihnen: "Mein Vater wirkt bis jetzt, und auch ich wirke."
18 Hereupon therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he did not only break the sabbath, but also said God was his Father, making himself equal to God.	18 Daraufhin trachteten die Juden noch mehr, ihn zu töten, weil er nicht nur den Sabbat brach, sondern sogar Gott seinen Vater nannte und damit sich Gott gleichsetzte.
19 Then Jesus answered, and said to them: Amen, amen, I say unto you, the Son cannot do any thing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doth, these the Son also doth in like manner.	19 Jesus aber gab ihnen zur Antwort: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Der Sohn vermag aus sich selber nichts zu tun, was er nicht den Vater tun sieht; denn was dieser tut, das tut auch der Sohn in gleicher Weise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things which himself doth: and greater works than these will he shew him, that you may wonder.	20 Denn der Vater liebt den Sohn und zeigt ihm alles, was er selber tut; ja, noch größere Werke als diese wird er ihm zeigen, so daß ihr staunen werdet.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth life: so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.	21 Denn wie der Vater die Toten erweckt und lebendig macht, so macht auch der Sohn, die er will, lebendig.
22 For neither doth the Father judge any man, but hath given all judgment to the Son.	22 Der Vater richtet auch niemand, er hat vielmehr das ganze Gericht dem Sohn übergeben,
23 That all men may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father, who hath sent him.	23 damit alle den Sohn ehren, wie sie den Vater ehren. Wer den Sohn nicht ehrt, der ehrt auch nicht den Vater, der ihn gesandt hat.
24 Amen, amen I say unto you, that he who heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath life everlasting; and cometh not into judgment, but is passed from death to life.	24 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer auf mein Wort hört und dem glaubt, der mich sandte, hat ewiges Leben und kommt nicht ins Gericht, sondern er ist aus dem Tod hinübergeschritten ins Leben.
25 Amen, amen I say unto you, that the hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.	25 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es kommt die Stunde, und jetzt ist sie da, in der die Toten die Stimme des Sohnes Gottes hören werden, und die sie hören, werden leben.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself, so he hath given the Son also to have life in himself:	26 Denn wie der Vater Leben in sich selber hat, so hat er auch dem Sohne verliehen, Leben in sich selber zu haben,
27 And he hath given him power to do judgment, because he is the Son of man.	27 und er gab ihm Vollmacht, Gericht zu halten, weil er der Menschensohn ist.
28 Wonder not at this; for the hour cometh, wherein all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God.	28 Wundert euch darüber nicht, denn es kommt die Stunde, in der alle, die in den Gräbern sind, seine Stimme hören werden,
29 And they that have done good things, shall come forth unto the resurrection of life; but they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.	29 und es werden hervorgehen, die das Gute getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Lebens, die das Böse getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Gerichtes.
30 I cannot of myself do any thing. As I hear, so I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.	30 Ich vermag nichts zu tun aus mir selbst; so wie ich höre, richte ich, und mein Gericht ist gerecht; denn ich suche nicht meinen Willen, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat.
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.	31 Wenn ich Zeugnis gebe über mich selbst, ist mein Zeugnis nicht wahr;
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.	32 ein anderer gibt Zeugnis über mich, und ich weiß: wahr ist das Zeugnis, das er ablegt über mich.
33 You sent to John, and he gave testimony to the truth.	33 Ihr habt zu Johannes gesandt, und er hat der Wahrheit Zeugnis gegeben;
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but I say these things, that you may be saved.	34 doch ich nehme nicht von einem Menschen das Zeugnis, sondern sage dies, damit ihr gerettet werdet.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.	35 Jener war die Lampe, brennend und leuchtend, ihr aber wolltet euch für eine Stunde ergötzen an ihrem Lichte.
36 But I have a greater testimony than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to perfect; the works themselves, which I do, give testimony of me, that the Father hath sent me.	36 Ich aber habe ein größeres Zeugnis als das des Johannes. Denn die Werke, die zu vollbringen mir der Vater gegeben hat, ja, diese Werke, die ich tue, sie bezeugen von mir, daß der Vater mich gesandt hat.
37 And the Father himself who hath sent me, hath given testimony of me: neither have you heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.	37 Und der Vater, der mich sandte, er selbst gab Zeugnis über mich; doch habt ihr weder seine Stimme jemals gehört noch seine Gestalt gesehen;
38 And you have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him you believe not.	38 auch sein Wort habt ihr nicht wohnen in euch, weil ihr dem, den er sandte, nicht glaubt.
39 Search the scriptures, for you think in them to have life everlasting; and the same are they that give testimony of me.	39 Ihr durchforscht die Schriften, weil ihr meint, in ihnen ewiges Leben zu haben, und sie sind es, die Zeugnis geben über mich;
40 And you will not come to me that you may have life.	40 doch ihr wollt nicht kommen zu mir, daß ihr Leben hättet.
41 I receive glory not from men.	41 Ehre von Menschen nehme ich nicht an,
42 But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.	42 ich habe euch ja erkannt, daß ihr die Liebe Gottes nicht in euch habt.
43 I am come in the name of my Father, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.	43 Ich bin gekommen im Namen meines Vaters, und ihr nehmt mich nicht an; wenn ein anderer kommt in seinem eigenen Namen, den werdet ihr annehmen.
44 How can you believe, who receive glory one from another: and the glory which is from God alone, you do not seek?	44 Wie vermögt ihr zu glauben, die ihr Ehre annehmt voneinander und die Ehre von Gott allein nicht sucht?
45 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuseth you, Moses, in whom you trust.	45 Denkt nicht, daß ich euch anklagen werde beim Vater; euer Ankläger ist Moses, auf den ihr eure Hoffnung gesetzt habt.
46 For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also; for he wrote of me.	46 Denn wenn ihr Moses glaubtet, würdet ihr auch mir glauben; über mich hat er ja geschrieben.
47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?	47 Wenn ihr aber seinen Schriften nicht glaubt, wie werdet ihr meinen Worten glauben?"
