Psalms 59

1 Unto the end, destroy not, for David for an inscription of It title, when Saul sent and watched his house to kill him.	1 To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God, protect me from those who rise up against me,
2 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; and defend me from them that rise up against me.	2 deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.
3 Deliver me from them that work iniquity, and save me from bloody men.	3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men band themselves against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD,
4 For behold they have caught my soul: the mighty have rushed in upon me:	4 for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Rouse thyself, come to my help, and see!
5 Neither is it my iniquity, nor my sin, O Lord: without iniquity have I run, and directed my steps.	5 Thou, LORD God of hosts, art God of Israel. Awake to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. [Selah]
6 Rise up thou to meet me, and behold: even thou, O Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. Attend to visit all the nations: have no mercy on all them that work iniquity.	6 Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
7 They shall return at evening, and shall suffer hunger like dogs: and shall go round about the city.	7 There they are, bellowing with their mouths, and snarling with their lips-- for "Who," they think, "will hear us?"
8 Behold they shall speak with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips: for who, say they, hath heard us ?	8 But thou, O LORD, dost laugh at them; thou dost hold all the nations in derision.
9 But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them: thou shalt bring all the nations to nothing.	9 O my Strength, I will sing praises to thee; for thou, O God, art my fortress.
10 I will keep my strength to thee: for thou art my protector:	10 My God in his steadfast love will meet me; my God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
11 my God, his mercy shall prevent me.	11 Slay them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by thy power, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield!
12 God shall let me see over my enemies: slay them not, lest at any time my people forget. Scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord, my protector:	12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies which they utter,
13 For the sin of their mouth, and the word of their lips: and let them be taken in their pride. And for their cursing and lying they shall be talked of,	13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more, that men may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. [Selah]
14 when they are consumed: when they are consumed by thy wrath, and they shall be no more. And they shall know that God will rule Jacob, and all the ends of the earth.	14 Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
15 They shall return at evening and shall suffer hunger like dogs: and shall go round about the city.	15 They roam about for food, and growl if they do not get their fill.
16 They shall be scattered abroad to eat, and shall murmur if they be not filled.	16 But I will sing of thy might; I will sing aloud of thy steadfast love in the morning. For thou hast been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
17 But I will sing thy strength: and will extol thy mercy in the morning. For thou art become my support, and my refuge, in the day of my trouble.	17 O my Strength, I will sing praises to thee, for thou, O God, art my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
18 Unto thee, O my helper, will I sing, for thou art God my defence: my God my mercy.
