ολεκομαι πνευματι φερομενος δεομαι δε ταφης και ου τυγχανω | 1 My spirit is broken, my lamp of life extinguished; my burial is at hand. |
λισσομαι καμνων και τι ποιησας | 2 I am indeed mocked, and, as their provocation mounts, my eyes grow dim. |
εκλεψαν δε μου τα υπαρχοντα αλλοτριοι τις εστιν ουτος τη χειρι μου συνδεθητω | 3 Grant me one to offer you a pledge on my behalf: who is there that will give surety for me? |
οτι καρδιαν αυτων εκρυψας απο φρονησεως δια τουτο ου μη υψωσης αυτους | 4 You darken their minds to knowledge; therefore they do not understand. |
τη μεριδι αναγγελει κακιας οφθαλμοι δε μου εφ' υιοις ετακησαν | 5 My lot is described as evil, |
εθου δε με θρυλημα εν εθνεσιν γελως δε αυτοις απεβην | 6 and I am made a byword of the people; their object lesson I have become. |
πεπωρωνται γαρ απο οργης οι οφθαλμοι μου πεπολιορκημαι μεγαλως υπο παντων | 7 My eye has grown blind with anguish, and all my frame is shrunken to a shadow. |
θαυμα εσχεν αληθινους επι τουτω δικαιος δε επι παρανομω επανασταιη | 8 Upright men are astonished at this, and the innocent aroused against the wicked. |
σχοιη δε πιστος την εαυτου οδον καθαρος δε χειρας αναλαβοι θαρσος | 9 Yet the righteous shall hold to his way, and he who has clean hands increase in strength. |
ου μην δε αλλα παντες ερειδετε και δευτε δη ου γαρ ευρισκω εν υμιν αληθες | 10 But turn now, and come on again; for I shall not find a wise man among you! |
αι ημεραι μου παρηλθον εν βρομω ερραγη δε τα αρθρα της καρδιας μου | 11 My days are passed away, my plans are at an end, the cherished purposes of my heart. |
νυκτα εις ημεραν εθηκαν φως εγγυς απο προσωπου σκοτους | 12 Such men change the night into day; where there is darkness they talk of approaching light. |
εαν γαρ υπομεινω αδης μου ο οικος εν δε γνοφω εστρωται μου η στρωμνη | 13 If I look for the nether world as my dwelling, if I spread my couch in the darkness, |
θανατον επεκαλεσαμην πατερα μου ειναι μητερα δε μου και αδελφην σαπριαν | 14 If I must call corruption "my father," and the maggot "my mother" and "my sister," |
που ουν μου ετι εστιν η ελπις η τα αγαθα μου οψομαι | 15 Where then is my hope, and my prosperity, who shall see? |
η μετ' εμου εις αδην καταβησονται η ομοθυμαδον επι χωματος καταβησομεθα | 16 Will they descend with me into the nether world? Shall we go down together into the dust? |
