1 Gott der Väter und Herr des Erbarmens, du hast das All durch dein Wort gemacht.	1 "O God of my fathers and Lord of mercy, who hast made all things by thy word,
2 Den Menschen hast du durch deine Weisheit erschaffen, damit er über deine Geschöpfe herrscht.	2 and by thy wisdom hast formed man, to have dominion over the creatures thou hast made,
3 Er soll die Welt in Heiligkeit und Gerechtigkeit leiten und Gericht halten in rechter Gesinnung.	3 and rule the world in holiness and righteousness, and pronounce judgment in uprightness of soul,
4 Gib mir die Weisheit, die an deiner Seite thront, und verstoß mich nicht aus der Schar deiner Kinder!	4 give me the wisdom that sits by thy throne, and do not reject me from among thy servants.
5 Ich bin ja dein Knecht, der Sohn deiner Magd, ein schwacher Mensch, dessen Leben nur kurz ist, und gering ist meine Einsicht in Recht und Gesetz.	5 For I am thy slave and the son of thy maidservant, a man who is weak and short-lived, with little understanding of judgment and laws;
6 Wäre einer auch vollkommen unter den Menschen, er wird kein Ansehen genießen, wenn ihm deine Weisheit fehlt.	6 for even if one is perfect among the sons of men, yet without the wisdom that comes from thee he will be regarded as nothing.
7 Du bist es, der mich zum König deines Volkes und zum Richter deiner Söhne und Töchter erwählt hat.	7 Thou hast chosen me to be king of thy people and to be judge over thy sons and daughters.
8 Du hast befohlen, einen Tempel auf deinem heiligen Berg zu bauen und einen Altar in der Stadt deiner Wohnung, ein Abbild des heiligen Zeltes, das du von Anfang an entworfen hast.	8 Thou hast given command to build a temple on thy holy mountain, and an altar in the city of thy habitation, a copy of the holy tent which thou didst prepare from the beginning.
9 Mit dir ist die Weisheit, die deine Werke kennt und die zugegen war, als du die Welt erschufst. Sie weiß, was dir gefällt und was recht ist nach deinen Geboten.	9 With thee is wisdom, who knows thy works and was present when thou didst make the world, and who understand what is pleasing in thy sight and what is right according to thy commandments.
10 Sende sie vom heiligen Himmel und schick sie vom Thron deiner Herrlichkeit, damit sie bei mir sei und alle Mühe mit mir teile und damit ich erkenne, was dir gefällt.	10 Send her forth from the holy heavens, and from the throne of thy glory send her, that she may be with me and toil, and that I may learn what is pleasing to thee.
11 Denn sie weiß und versteht alles; sie wird mich in meinem Tun besonnen leiten und mich in ihrem Lichtglanz schützen.	11 For she knows and understands all things, and she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard me with her glory.
12 Dann wird dir mein Handeln gefallen; ich werde dein Volk gerecht regieren und des Throns meines Vaters würdig sein.	12 Then my works will be acceptable, and I shall judge thy people justly, and shall be worthy of the throne of my father.
13 Denn welcher Mensch kann Gottes Plan erkennen, oder wer begreift, was der Herr will?	13 For what man can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills?
14 Unsicher sind die Berechnungen der Sterblichen und hinfällig unsere Gedanken;	14 For the reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail,
15 denn der vergängliche Leib beschwert die Seele und das irdische Zelt belastet den um vieles besorgten Geist.	15 for a perishable body weighs down the soul, and this earthy tent burdens the thoughtful mind.
16 Wir erraten kaum, was auf der Erde vorgeht, und finden nur mit Mühe, was doch auf der Hand liegt; wer kann dann ergründen, was im Himmel ist?	16 We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labor; but who has traced out what is in the heavens?
17 Wer hat je deinen Plan erkannt, wenn du ihm nicht Weisheit gegeben und deinen heiligen Geist aus der Höhe gesandt hast?	17 Who has learned thy counsel, unless thou hast given wisdom and sent thy holy Spirit from on high?
18 So wurden die Pfade der Erdenbewohner gerade gemacht und die Menschen lernten, was dir gefällt;	18 And thus the paths of those on earth were set right, and men were taught what pleases thee, and were saved by wisdom."
19 durch die Weisheit wurden sie gerettet.
