1 L’homme qui s’entête malgré les avertissements sera brisé d’un coup et sans remède.	1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 Quand les justes sont au pouvoir, le peuple se réjouit; quand c’est un méchant qui domine, le peuple gémit.	2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Qui aime la sagesse fait la joie de son père, qui entretient les prostituées y laissera son avoir.	3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 Un roi, quand il est juste, affermit son pays; s’il n’est qu’un oppresseur, il le mène à la ruine.	4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 Flatter son prochain, c’est tendre un filet sous ses pas.	5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 Le péché du méchant lui prépare un piège, tandis que le juste court et n’a pas à s’en repentir.	6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 Le juste connaît les droits du pauvre, le mauvais n’en veut rien savoir.	7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 Ceux qui ne font que critiquer mettent la ville sens dessus dessous, mais les sages apaisent la colère.	8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 Quand le sage discute avec un fou, qu’il se fâche ou plaisante, il n’en tirera rien.	9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 Le juste s’attire la haine des violents, les méchants veulent sa perte.	10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11 L’insensé donne libre cours à son impulsivité, le sage domine la sienne et la calme.	11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12 Un chef qui prête l’oreille aux calomnies, tous ses serviteurs seront des mauvais.	12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 Le pauvre et l’oppresseur ont un point commun: Yahvé leur donne à tous deux de voir le jour.	13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
14 Le roi qui donne aux pauvres une vraie justice, son pouvoir sera stable.	14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 Le fouet et les corrections procurent la sagesse, l’enfant qu’on laisse faire sera la honte de sa mère.	15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16 Les mauvais se multiplient, et avec eux le péché, mais les hommes droits verront leur chute.	16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 Corrige ton fils si tu veux qu’il te procure le repos: alors il te vaudra de grandes joies.	17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18 Faute de visions, le peuple vit sans règle; heureux celui qui observe la Loi!	18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 On ne corrige pas un serviteur rien qu’avec des paroles; il comprend mais n’obéit pas!	19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 As-tu remarqué un homme qui meurt d’envie de parler? Il y a plus à espérer d’un sot que de lui.	20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 Si tu as gâté ton serviteur dès sa jeunesse, à la fin il sera intraitable.	21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 Le violent multiplie les querelles, l’homme emporté commet faute sur faute.	22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 C’est ton orgueil qui te vaudra d’être abaissé, celui qui est humble aura droit aux honneurs.	23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 Il veut sa propre perte, celui qui protège un voleur, qui ne dit rien quand on fait jurer ceux qui savent.	24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25 C’est un piège que de trembler devant des hommes: la vraie sécurité, c’est de s’en remettre à Yahvé.	25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26 Beaucoup recherchent les faveurs du pouvoir, mais c’est Yahvé qui décide pour chacun.	26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27 L’homme mauvais est insupportable aux hommes droits, tout comme celui qui marche droit est insupportable aux méchants.	27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
