Bildad de Chouah prit alors la parole:1 But Baldad the Suhite responded by saying:
Quand finiras-tu tous ces discours? Sois raisonnable, et laisse-nous parler.2 How long will you throw around words? Understand first, and then let us speak.
Nous prends-tu pour des bêtes, nous regardes-tu comme des brutes?3 Why have we been treated like mules, as if we were unworthy before you?
Pourquoi te déchirer dans ta fureur? La terre va-t-elle se perdre pour autant ou les rochers changer de place?4 You, who ruins your own soul in your fury, will the earth be forsaken because of you, and will the cliffs be moved from their place?
Mais vois: la lumière du méchant s’éteint, son feu ne jette plus de flammes.5 Will not the light of the impious be put out, and the flame of his fire refuse to shine?
La lumière baisse dans sa tente, sa lampe au-dessus de lui s’éteint.6 Light will become darkness in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him will be extinguished.
Sa démarche alerte devient hésitante, ses propres combines le font tomber.7 His strong steps will be constrained, and his own counsel will cast him down uncontrollably.
Ses pieds le conduisent vers un filet, ou le précipitent dans la trappe.8 For he has caused his own feet to go into a net, and he has walked into its web.
Un nœud coulant le saisit à la cheville, le collet se resserre sur lui.9 His heel will be held in a snare, and thirst will rage against him.
Une corde, cachée en terre, va le prendre, un piège est sur le sentier pour l’attraper.10 A trap has been hidden for him in the earth, and a decoy, along his path.
Des dangers de tous côtés le menacent, et le suivent à la trace.11 Horrifying things will terrify him everywhere and will entangle his feet.
La famine ne le quitte plus, le malheur se tient à ses côtés.12 Let his strength be diminished by famine, and let starvation invade his ribs.
Un mal ronge sa chair, une peste mortelle lui dévore les membres.13 Let it devour the beauty of his skin; let the ancient death consume his arms.
On l’arrache au refuge de sa tente, il est bon pour aller vers le Roi des enfers.14 Let his confidence be torn away from his tabernacle, and let ruin trample over him like a king.
Installe-toi dans sa tente, elle n’est plus à lui; on répand du soufre sur son domaine.15 Let the companions of he who is not, dwell in his tabernacle; let brimstone rain down upon his tabernacle.
Ses racines en bas se dessèchent, et par le haut sa ramure se flétrit.16 Let his roots be dried up from beneath him, and his harvest be crushed from above.
On ne se souvient plus de lui dans le pays, il n’a laissé son nom sur rien.17 Let the memory of him perish from the earth, and let not his name be celebrated in the streets.
On le remise de la lumière aux ténèbres, il est expulsé du monde.18 He will expel him from light into darkness, and he will remove him from the world.
Dans son peuple il n’a laissé ni enfants, ni suivants, de son campement, nul n’a survécu.19 Neither his offspring, nor his descendents, will exist among his people, nor will there be any remnants in his country.
Tout l’Occident s’étonne de son sort, tous en Orient sont saisis d’effroi.20 The last will be astonished at his day, and the first will be overcome with horror.
Voilà pour les demeures des méchants, voilà pour la contrée qui veut ignorer Dieu!21 And so, these are the tabernacles of the sinful, and this the place of he who does not know God.
