KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ezek után Dávid megkérdezte az Urat: »Felmenjek-e Júda valamelyik városába?« Az Úr azt mondta neki: »Menj fel.« Azt mondta erre Dávid: »Hova menjek fel?« Ő azt felelte neki: »Hebronba.«	1 After this David consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Shal I go up to one of the towns of Judah?' Yahwehreplied, 'Go up!' 'Which one shal I go to?' David asked. 'To Hebron,' was the reply.
2 Felment tehát Dávid két feleségével, a jezreeli Ahinoámmal és a kármeli Nábál volt feleségével, Abigaillal együtt.	2 So David went up, with his two wives Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel.
3 Azokat az embereket, akik vele voltak, szintén felvitte Dávid, mindenkit a maga házanépével együtt, s azok Hebron városaiban telepedtek meg.	3 In addition David brought up the men who were with him, each with his family, and they settled in thetowns of Hebron.
4 Erre eljöttek Júda férfiai és felkenték ott Dávidot Júda házának királyává. Aztán hírül vitték Dávidnak, hogy a jábesgileádi emberek eltemették Sault.	4 The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David as king of the House of Judah. They told Davidthat the people of Jabesh in Gilead had given Saul burial,
5 Erre Dávid követeket küldött a jábesgileádi emberekhez és ezt üzente nekik: Áldjon meg az Úr titeket, amiért azt az irgalmasságot cselekedtétek uratokkal, Saullal, hogy eltemettétek.	5 so David sent messengers to the people of Jabesh in Gilead. 'May you be blessed by Yahweh,' he said,'for showing this faithful love to Saul your lord, and for burying him.
6 Nos, az Úr ugyan majd megfizet nektek irgalmassággal és hűséggel, de én is meg akarom hálálni, hogy ezt cselekedtétek.	6 And now may Yahweh show faithful love and constancy towards you! I too shall treat you wel becauseyou have done this.
7 Legyen csak kezetek erős és legyetek csak bátor emberek, noha uratok, Saul meghalt, mert Júda háza máris felkent engem királyává.	7 And now take courage and be men of valour. Saul your lord is dead, but the House of Judah hasanointed me to be their king.'
8 Ámde Ábner, Nér fia, Saul hadvezére, fogta Isbaált, Saul fiát, körülhordozta a Mahanaimban,	8 Abner son of Ner, Saul's army commander, had taken Ishbaal son of Saul and brought him over toMahanaim.
9 és megtette Gileád, Gessúri, Jezreel, Efraim, Benjamin és egész Izrael királyává.	9 He had made him king of Gilead, of the Asherites, of Jezreel, of Ephraim, of Benjamin and indeed of allIsrael.
10 Negyven esztendős volt Isbaál, Saul fia, amikor uralkodni kezdett Izraelen és két esztendeig uralkodott. Dávidot csak Júda háza követte.	10 Ishbaal son of Saul was forty years old when he became king of Israel, and he reigned for two years.Only the House of Judah supported David.
11 Azoknak a napoknak az összege, amelyek alatt Dávid Hebronban tartózkodott és csak Júda házán uralkodott, hét esztendő és hat hónap volt.	11 The length of David's reign over Judah in Hebron was seven years and six months.
12 Majd kivonult Ábner, Nér fia, Isbaálnak, Saul fiának a legényeivel a Mahanaimból Gibeonba.	12 Abner son of Ner, with the retainers of Ishbaal son of Saul, marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 Erre Joáb, Száruja fia és Dávid legényei is kivonultak, és Gibeon tavánál találkoztak. Miután így összekerültek, egymással szemben telepedtek le: ezek a tónak ezen az oldalán, azok pedig a túlsón.	13 Joab son of Zeruiah, with David's retainers, also took the field, encountering them at the pool ofGibeon. There they halted, one party on one side of the pool, and the other opposite.
14 Ekkor Ábner azt üzente Joábnak: »Keljen fel néhány legény, s rendezzen harci játékot előttünk.« Joáb azt felelte erre: »Jó, keljen fel.«	14 Abner then said to Joab, 'Let the men come forward and fight it out between us!' Joab replied, 'Letthem come forward.'
15 Fel is keltek, és kiálltak szám szerint: tizenketten Benjaminból, Isbaálnak, Saul fiának a részéről, és tizenketten Dávid legényei közül.	15 So they came forward and were numbered off, twelve from Benjamin for Ishbaal son of Saul, andtwelve of David's retainers.
16 Mindenki megragadta azonban párja fejét, s beledöfte kardját ellenfele oldalába, s így valamennyien elestek. Ezért nevezték el Gibeonnak azt a helyét Hősök mezejének.	16 Each caught his opponent by the head and drove his sword into his side; and thus they al felltogether. Hence the place was cal ed the Field of Sides; it is at Gibeon.
17 Erre nagyon kemény harc támadt azon a napon, ám Dávid legényei megszalasztották Ábnert és Izrael embereit.	17 That day a very fierce battle took place, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten by David'sretainers.
18 Ott volt Száruja három fia is: Joáb, Abisáj és Aszaél. Aszaél olyan gyors futó volt, mint az erdei vadkecske.	18 The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel could run like a wildgazel e.
19 Aszaél már most üldözőbe vette Ábnert, s nem tért el sem jobbra, sem balra, s nem hagyott fel Ábner üldözésével.	19 Asahel chased Abner, not swerving to the right or left from pursuing him.
20 Hátratekintett azért Ábner és azt mondta: »Te vagy-e az, Aszaél?« Ő azt felelte: »Én vagyok.«	20 Abner turned and said, 'Asahel, is that you?' He replied, 'It is.'
21 Azt mondta erre neki Ábner: »Térj jobbra vagy balra, s fogd meg valamelyik legényt, s vedd el a holmiját.« Aszaél azonban csak nem akart felhagyni kergetésével.	21 Abner said, 'Turn to your right or your left, catch one of the men and take his spoil!' But Asahel wouldnot break off the pursuit.
22 Ismét szólt tehát Ábner Aszaélnek: »Térj vissza, ne kergess, hogy ne legyek kénytelen téged a földre szegezni, mert akkor nem emelhetném fel arcomat Joáb, a fivéred előtt.«	22 Again Abner spoke to Asahel, 'Stop following me, unless you want me to strike you to the ground; andthen how could I look your brother Joab in the face?'
23 Ám ő semmibe sem vette szavát és nem akart letérni. Ábner erre dárdája végével úgy lágyékon sújtotta, hogy a dárda keresztülhatolt rajta, s ő ott helyben meghalt. Mindazok, akik azon a helyen mentek keresztül, ahol Aszaél elesett és meghalt, megálltak.	23 But he refused to be diverted, so Abner struck him in the belly with the butt of his spear so that theshaft came out through his back; and he fell at his feet and died on the spot. On coming to the place whereAsahel had fal en and died, everyone halted.
24 Joáb és Abisáj azonban tovább űzték a menekülő Ábnert. Közben leszállt a nap, s ők eljutottak a Vízvezeték halmához, amely a Völggyel szemben, a gibeoni puszta felé vivő úton van.	24 Joab and Abishai took up the pursuit of Abner and at sunset reached the Hil of Ammah, which is tothe east of Giah on the road through the desert of Gibeon.
25 Ekkor Benjamin fiai összegyűltek Ábner körül és zárt csoportba verődve kiálltak az egyik halom tetejére.	25 The Benjaminites gathered in close formation behind Abner and halted on the top of a hil .
26 Ábner azonban kiáltott Joábnak és azt mondta: »Hát végpusztulásig fog dühöngeni kardod? Nem tudod-e, hogy veszedelmes a kétségbeesés? Meddig nem szólsz még a népnek, hogy hagyjon fel testvérei üldözésével?«	26 Abner cal ed out to Joab, 'Is the sword to go on devouring for ever? Surely you see that this can onlyend in bitterness? How long wil it be before you order those people to stop pursuing their brothers?'
27 Azt mondta erre Joáb: »Az Úr életére mondom, hogy ha szóltál volna, már reggel visszatért volna a nép, amely most testvéreit kergeti.«	27 Joab replied, 'As Yahweh lives, if you had not spoken, these men would not have given up the pursuitof their brothers until morning.'
28 Aztán Joáb megfúvatta a harsonát, s megállt az egész sereg, s nem üldözték tovább Izraelt, s nem bocsátkoztak vele harcba.	28 Joab then sounded the trumpet and all the troops halted; they pursued Israel no further and fought nomore.
29 Erre Ábner és emberei elvonultak, egész éjszaka meneteltek az Arabán. Átkeltek a Jordánon, megjárták egész Béthoront, s eljutottak a Mahanaimba.	29 Al that night Abner and his men made their way through the Arabah; they crossed the Jordan and,marching throughout the morning, came to Mahanaim.
30 Joáb is visszavonult, hagyta Ábnert, és egybegyűjtötte az egész népet. Dávid legényei közül. Aszaélen kívül tizenkilenc ember hiányzott,	30 Joab, having stopped pursuing Abner, mustered the whole contingent; David's retainers had lostnineteen men in addition to Asahel,
31 Dávid szolgái pedig Benjaminból, s azon emberek közül, akik Ábnerrel voltak, háromszázhatvanat sújtottak halálra.	31 but had killed three hundred and sixty of Benjamin, Abner's men.
32 Majd felvették Aszaélt és eltemették apja sírboltjába Betlehemben. Aztán Joáb és azok az emberek, akik vele voltak, egész éjszaka meneteltek, s virradatkor meg is érkeztek Hebronba.	32 They took up Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb, which is at Bethlehem. Joab and his menthen marched throughout the night, reaching Hebron at daybreak.
