LXXNEW JERUSALEM
υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης λεγει1 Bildad of Shuah spoke next. He said:
μεχρι τινος ου παυση επισχες ινα και αυτοι λαλησωμεν2 What prevents you others from saying something? Think -- for it is our turn to speak!
δια τι ωσπερ τετραποδα σεσιωπηκαμεν εναντιον σου3 Why do you regard us as animals, considering us no more than brutes?
κεχρηται σοι οργη τι γαρ εαν συ αποθανης αοικητος η υπ' ουρανον η καταστραφησεται ορη εκ θεμελιων4 Tear yourself to pieces if you will, but the world, for al your rage, wil not turn to desert, the rocks wilnot shift from their places.
και φως ασεβων σβεσθησεται και ουκ αποβησεται αυτων η φλοξ5 The light of the wicked must certainly be put out, the lamp that gives him light cease to shine.
το φως αυτου σκοτος εν διαιτη ο δε λυχνος επ' αυτω σβεσθησεται6 In his tent the light is dimmed, the lamp that shone on him is snuffed.
θηρευσαισαν ελαχιστοι τα υπαρχοντα αυτου σφαλαι δε αυτου η βουλη7 His vigorous stride loses its power, his own designs falter.
εμβεβληται δε ο πους αυτου εν παγιδι εν δικτυω ελιχθειη8 For into the net his own feet carry him, he walks into the snares.
ελθοισαν δε επ' αυτον παγιδες κατισχυσει επ' αυτον διψωντας9 A spring grips him by the heel, a trap snaps shut, and he is caught.
κεκρυπται εν τη γη σχοινιον αυτου και η συλλημψις αυτου επι τριβων10 Hidden in the ground is a snare to catch him, pitfal s lie across his path.
κυκλω ολεσαισαν αυτον οδυναι πολλοι δε περι ποδας αυτου ελθοισαν εν λιμω στενω11 Terrors threaten him from al sides following him step by step.
πτωμα δε αυτω ητοιμασται εξαισιον12 Hunger becomes his companion, by his side Disaster stands.
βρωθειησαν αυτου κλωνες ποδων κατεδεται δε τα ωραια αυτου θανατος13 Disease devours his skin, Death's First-Born gnaws his limbs.
εκραγειη δε εκ διαιτης αυτου ιασις σχοιη δε αυτον αναγκη αιτια βασιλικη14 He wil be torn from the shelter of his tent, and you wil drag him to the King of Terrors.
κατασκηνωσει εν τη σκηνη αυτου εν νυκτι αυτου κατασπαρησονται τα ευπρεπη αυτου θειω15 You can live in the tent, since it is no longer his, and brimstone wil be scattered on his sheepfold.
υποκατωθεν αι ριζαι αυτου ξηρανθησονται και επανωθεν επιπεσειται θερισμος αυτου16 Below, his roots dry out and his branches are blasted above.
το μνημοσυνον αυτου απολοιτο εκ γης και υπαρχει ονομα αυτω επι προσωπον εξωτερω17 His memory fades from the land, his name is forgotten in the countryside.
απωσειεν αυτον εκ φωτος εις σκοτος18 Driven from the light into the darkness, he is banished from the world,
ουκ εσται επιγνωστος εν λαω αυτου ουδε σεσωσμενος εν τη υπ' ουρανον ο οικος αυτου αλλ' εν τοις αυτου ζησονται ετεροι19 without issue or posterity among his own people or a single survivor where he used to live.
επ' αυτω εστεναξαν εσχατοι πρωτους δε εσχεν θαυμα20 His end appals the west and fills the east with terror.
ουτοι εισιν οικοι αδικων ουτος δε ο τοπος των μη ειδοτων τον κυριον21 Such indeed is the fate of the places where wickedness dwel s -- the home of everyone who knowsnot God.
