BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ora a voi questo monito, o sacerdoti.	1 'And now, priests, this commandment is for you.
2 Se non mi ascolterete e non vi prenderete a cuore di dar gloria al mio nome, dice il Signore degli eserciti, manderò su di voi la maledizione e cambierò in maledizione le vostre benedizioni. Anzi le ho già maledette, perché nessuno tra di voi se la prende a cuore.	2 If you will not listen, if you will not sincerely resolve to glorify my name, says Yahweh Sabaoth, I shalcertainly lay a curse on you and I shal curse your blessing. Indeed I wil lay a curse, for none of you makes thisresolve.
3 Ecco, io spezzerò il vostro braccio e spanderò sulla vostra faccia escrementi, gli escrementi delle vittime immolate nelle vostre solennità, perché siate spazzati via insieme con essi.	3 Now, I am going to break your arm and throw offal in your faces -- the offal of your solemn feasts -- andsweep you away with it.
4 Così saprete che io ho diretto a voi questo monito, perché c'è anche un'alleanza fra me e Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	4 Then you wil know that I sent this commandment to you, to affirm my intention to maintain my covenantwith Levi, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
5 La mia alleanza con lui era alleanza di vita e di benessere e io glieli concessi; alleanza di timore ed egli mi temette ed ebbe riverenza del mio nome.	5 My covenant was with him -- a covenant of life and peace, and these were what I gave him -- acovenant of respect, and he respected me and held my name in awe.
6 Un insegnamento fedele era sulla sua bocca, né c'era falsità sulle sue labbra; con pace e rettitudine ha camminato davanti a me e ha trattenuto molti dal male.	6 The law of truth was in his mouth and guilt was not found on his lips; he walked in peace and justicewith me and he converted many from sinning.
7 Infatti le labbra del sacerdote devono custodire la scienza e dalla sua bocca si ricerca l'istruzione, perché egli è messaggero del Signore degli eserciti.	7 The priest's lips ought to safeguard knowledge; his mouth is where the law should be sought, since heis Yahweh Sabaoth's messenger.
8 Voi invece vi siete allontanati dalla retta via e siete stati d'inciampo a molti con il vostro insegnamento; avete rotto l'alleanza di Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	8 But you yourselves have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to lapse by your teaching.Since you have destroyed the covenant of Levi, says Yahweh Sabaoth,
9 Perciò anch'io vi ho reso spregevoli e abbietti davanti a tutto il popolo, perché non avete osservato le mie disposizioni e avete usato parzialità riguardo alla legge.	9 so I in my turn have made you contemptible and vile to the whole people, for not having kept my waysand for being partial in applying the law.
10 Non abbiamo forse tutti noi un solo Padre? Forse non ci ha creati un unico Dio? Perché dunque agire con perfidia l'uno contro l'altro profanando l'alleanza dei nostri padri?	10 'Is there not one Father of us al ? Did not one God create us? Why, then, do we break faith with oneanother, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?
11 Giuda è stato sleale e l'abominio è stato commesso in Israele e in Gerusalemme. Giuda infatti ha osato profanare il santuario caro al Signore e ha sposato le figlie d'un dio straniero!	11 Judah has broken faith; a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah hasprofaned Yahweh's beloved sanctuary; he has married the daughter of an alien god.
12 Elimini il Signore chi ha agito così dalle tende di Giacobbe, il testimone e il mallevadore, e colui che offre l'offerta al Signore degli eserciti.	12 May Yahweh deprive such an offender of witness and advocate in the tents of Jacob among those whopresent offerings to Yahweh Sabaoth!
13 Un'altra cosa fate ancora; voi coprite di lacrime, di pianti e di sospiri l'altare del Signore, perché egli non guarda all'offerta, né la gradisce con benevolenza dalle vostre mani.	13 'And here is something else you do: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping andwailing, because he now refuses to consider the offering or to accept it from you.
14 E chiedete: Perché? Perché il Signore è testimone fra te e la donna della tua giovinezza, che ora perfidamente tradisci, mentr'essa è la tua consorte, la donna legata a te da un patto.	14 And you ask, "Why?" Because Yahweh stands as witness between you and the wife of your youth,with whom you have broken faith, even though she was your partner and your wife by covenant.
15 Non fece egli un essere solo dotato di carne e soffio vitale? Che cosa cerca quest'unico essere, se non prole da parte di Dio? Custodite dunque il vostro soffio vitale e nessuno tradisca la donna della sua giovinezza.	15 Did he not create a single being, having flesh and the breath of life? And what does this single being seek? God -- given offspring! Have respect for your own life then, and do not break faith with the wife of youryouth.
16 Perché io detesto il ripudio, dice il Signore Dio d'Israele, e chi copre d'iniquità la propria veste, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Custodite la vostra vita dunque e non vogliate agire con perfidia.	16 For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, God of Israel, and people concealing their cruelty under a cloak, saysYahweh Sabaoth. Have respect for your own life then, and do not break faith.
17 Voi avete stancato il Signore con le vostre parole; eppure chiedete: Come lo abbiamo stancato? Quando affermate: Chiunque fa il male è come se fosse buono agli occhi del Signore e in lui si compiace; o quando esclamate: Dov'è il Dio della giustizia?	17 'You have wearied Yahweh with your talk. You ask, "How have we wearied him?" When you say, "Anyevil-doer is good as far as Yahweh is concerned; indeed he is delighted with them"; or when you say, "Where isthe God of fair judgement now?"
