BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando furon terminate le feste nuziali, Tobi chiamò il figlio Tobia e gli disse: "Figlio mio, pensa a dare la ricompensa dovuta a colui che ti ha accompagnato e ad aggiungere qualcosa d'altro alla somma pattuita".	1 When the wedding feast was over, Tobit cal ed his son Tobias and said, 'My son, you ought to thinkabout paying the amount due to your fellow travel er; give him more than the figure agreed on.'
2 Gli disse Tobia: "Padre, quanto potrò dargli come salario? Anche se gli lasciassi la metà dei beni che egli ha portati con me, io non ci perderei.	2 'Father,' he replied, 'how much am I to give him for his help? Even if I give him half the goods hebrought back with me, I shal not be the loser.
3 Egli mi ha condotto sano e salvo, mi ha guarito la moglie, è andato a prendere per me il denaro e infine ha guarito te! Quanto posso ancora dargli come salario?".	3 He has brought me back safe and sound, he has cured my wife, he has brought the money back too,and now he has cured you as wel . How much am I to give him for al this?'
4 Tobi rispose: "È giusto ch'egli riceva la metà di tutti i beni che ha riportati".	4 Tobit said, 'He has richly earned half what he brought back'.
5 Fece dunque venire l'angelo e gli disse: "Prendi come tuo salario la metà di tutti i beni che tu hai portati e va' in pace".	5 So Tobias cal ed his companion and said, 'Take half of what you brought back, in payment for al youhave done, and go in peace.'
6 Allora Raffaele li chiamò tutti e due in disparte e disse loro: "Benedite Dio e proclamate davanti a tutti i viventi il bene che vi ha fatto, perché sia benedetto e celebrato il suo nome. Fate conoscere a tutti gli uomini le opere di Dio, come è giusto, e non trascurate di ringraziarlo.	6 Then Raphael took them both aside and said, 'Bless God, utter his praise before al the living for thefavour he has shown you. Bless and extol his name. Proclaim before all people the deeds of God as theydeserve, and never tire of giving him thanks.
7 È bene tener nascosto il segreto del re, ma è cosa gloriosa rivelare e manifestare le opere di Dio. Fate ciò che è bene e non vi colpirà alcun male.	7 It is right to keep the secret of a king, yet right to reveal and publish the works of God as they deserve.Do what is good, and no evil can befall you.
8 Buona cosa è la preghiera con il digiuno e l'elemosina con la giustizia. Meglio il poco con giustizia che la ricchezza con ingiustizia. Meglio è praticare l'elemosina che mettere da parte oro.	8 'Prayer with fasting and alms with uprightness are better than riches with iniquity. Better to practisealmsgiving than to hoard up gold.
9 L'elemosina salva dalla morte e purifica da ogni peccato. Coloro che fanno l'elemosina godranno lunga vita.	9 Almsgiving saves from death and purges every kind of sin. Those who give alms have their fill of days;
10 Coloro che commettono il peccato e l'ingiustizia sono nemici della propria vita.	10 those who commit sin and do evil bring harm on themselves.
11 Io vi voglio manifestare tutta la verità, senza nulla nascondervi: vi ho già insegnato che è bene nascondere il segreto del re, mentre è cosa gloriosa rivelare le opere di Dio.	11 'I am going to tel you the whole truth, hiding nothing from you. I have already told you that it is rightto keep the secret of a king, yet right too to reveal in a worthy way the words of God.
12 Sappiate dunque che, quando tu e Sara eravate in preghiera, io presentavo l'attestato della vostra preghiera davanti alla gloria del Signore. Così anche quando tu seppellivi i morti.	12 So you must know that when you and Sarah were at prayer, it was I who offered your supplicationsbefore the glory of the Lord and who read them; so too when you were burying the dead.
13 Quando poi tu non hai esitato ad alzarti e ad abbandonare il tuo pranzo e sei andato a curare la sepoltura di quel morto, allora io sono stato inviato per provare la tua fede,	13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave the table to go and bury a dead man, I was sent to testyour faith,
14 ma Dio mi ha inviato nel medesimo tempo per guarire te e Sara tua nuora.	14 and at the same time God sent me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.
15 Io sono Raffaele, uno dei sette angeli che sono sempre pronti ad entrare alla presenza della maestà del Signore".	15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ever ready to enter the presence of the glory of theLord.'
16 Allora furono riempiti di terrore tutti e due; si prostrarono con la faccia a terra ed ebbero una grande paura.	16 They were both overwhelmed with awe; they fel on their faces in terror.
17 Ma l'angelo disse loro: "Non temete; la pace sia con voi. Benedite Dio per tutti i secoli.	17 But the angel said, 'Do not be afraid; peace be with you. Bless God for ever.
18 Quando ero con voi, io non stavo con voi per mia iniziativa, ma per la volontà di Dio: lui dovete benedire sempre, a lui cantate inni.	18 As far as I was concerned, when I was with you, my presence was not by any decision of mine, butby the wil of God; he is the one whom you must bless as long as you live, he the one that you must praise.
19 A voi sembrava di vedermi mangiare, ma io non mangiavo nulla: ciò che vedevate era solo apparenza.	19 You thought you saw me eating, but that was appearance and no more.
20 Ora benedite il Signore sulla terra e rendete grazie a Dio. Io ritorno a colui che mi ha mandato. Scrivete tutte queste cose che vi sono accadute". E salì in alto.	20 Now bless the Lord on earth and give thanks to God. I am about to return to him who sent me fromabove. Write down al that has happened.' And he rose in the air.
21 Essi si rialzarono, ma non poterono più vederlo.	21 When they stood up again, he was no longer visible. They praised God with hymns; they thanked himfor having performed such wonders; had not an angel of God appeared to them?
22 Allora andavano benedicendo e celebrando Dio e lo ringraziavano per queste grandi opere, perché era loro apparso l'angelo di Dio.
