| 1 Nell'anno settimo Ioiadà, sentendosi sicuro, prese i capi di centurie, cioè Azaria, figlio di Ierocam, Ismaele figlio di Giovanni, Azaria figlio di Obed, Maaseia figlio di Adaia, ed Elisafàt figlio di Zicrì, e concluse un'alleanza con loro. | 1 But in the seventh year Jehoiada took courage, and entered into a compact with the commanders of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, Azariah the son of Obed, Ma-aseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri. |
| 2 Percorsero Giuda e radunarono i leviti da tutte le città di Giuda e i capi dei casati di Israele; essi vennero in Gerusalemme. | 2 And they went about through Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. |
| 3 Tutta l'assemblea concluse un'alleanza con il re nel tempio di Dio. Ioiadà disse loro: "Ecco il figlio del re. Deve regnare come ha promesso il Signore ai figli di Davide. | 3 And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them, "Behold, the king's son! Let him reign, as the LORD spoke concerning the sons of David. |
| 4 Questo è ciò che dovrete fare: un terzo fra quelli di voi che prendono servizio il sabato, sacerdoti e leviti, monterà la guardia alle porte; | 4 This is the thing that you shall do: of you priests and Levites who come off duty on the sabbath, one third shall be gatekeepers, |
| 5 un altro terzo starà nella reggia e un terzo alla porta di Iesod, mentre tutto il popolo starà nei cortili del tempio. | 5 and one third shall be at the king's house and one third at the Gate of the Foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD. |
| 6 Nessuno entri nel tempio, se non i sacerdoti e i leviti di servizio; costoro vi entreranno, perché essi sono santificati; tutto il popolo osserverà l'ordine del Signore. | 6 Let no one enter the house of the LORD except the priests and ministering Levites; they may enter, for they are holy, but all the people shall keep the charge of the LORD. |
7 I leviti circonderanno il re, ognuno con l'arma in pugno; chiunque tenti di entrare nel tempio sia messo a morte. Essi staranno vicino al re seguendolo in ogni movimento".
| 7 The Levites shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand; and whoever enters the house shall be slain. Be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out." |
| 8 I leviti e tutti quelli di Giuda fecero quanto aveva comandato il sacerdote Ioiadà. Ognuno prese i suoi uomini, quelli che entravano in servizio di sabato come quelli che smontavano di sabato, perché il sacerdote Ioiadà non aveva licenziato le classi uscenti. | 8 The Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. They each brought his men, who were to go off duty on the sabbath, with those who were to come on duty on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions. |
| 9 Il sacerdote Ioiadà diede ai capi delle centurie lance, scudi grandi e piccoli, già appartenenti al re Davide e allora depositati nel tempio di Dio. | 9 And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains the spears and the large and small shields that had been King Davids, which were in the house of God; |
| 10 Mise tutto il popolo, ognuno con l'arma in pugno, nel lato meridionale e nel lato settentrionale del tempio, lungo l'altare e l'edificio, in modo da circondare il re. | 10 and he set all the people as a guard for the king, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house. |
11 Si fece uscire il figlio del re e gli si impose il diadema con le insegne. Lo si proclamò re; Ioiadà e i suoi figli lo unsero e poi gridarono: "Viva il re!".
| 11 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they proclaimed him king, and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they said, "Long live the king." |
| 12 Quando sentì le grida del popolo che acclamando correva verso il re, Atalia si presentò al popolo nel tempio. | 12 When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she went into the house of the LORD to the people; |
13 Guardò ed ecco, il re stava sul suo seggio all'ingresso; gli ufficiali e i trombettieri circondavano il re; tutto il popolo del paese gioiva a suon di trombe; i cantori, con gli strumenti musicali, intonavano i canti di lode. Atalia si strappò le vesti e gridò: "Tradimento, tradimento!".
| 13 and when she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and the singers with their musical instruments leading in the celebration. And Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, "Treason! Treason!" |
| 14 Il sacerdote Ioiadà ordinò ai capi delle centurie, che comandavano la truppa: "Fatela uscire attraverso le file! Chi la segue sia ucciso di spada". Infatti il sacerdote aveva detto: "Non uccidetela nel tempio". | 14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains who were set over the army, saying to them, "Bring her out between the ranks; any one who follows her is to be slain with the sword." For the priest said, "Do not slay her in the house of the LORD." |
15 Le aprirono un passaggio con le mani; essa raggiunse la reggia per l'ingresso della porta dei Cavalli e là essi l'uccisero.
| 15 So they laid hands on her; and she went into the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and they slew her there. |
| 16 Ioiadà concluse un'alleanza tra sé, il popolo tutto e il re, che il popolo fosse cioè il popolo del Signore. | 16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king that they should be the LORD's people. |
17 Tutti andarono nel tempio di Baal e lo demolirono; fecero a pezzi i suoi altari e le sue statue e uccisero Mattan, sacerdote di Baal, davanti agli altari.
| 17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. |
| 18 Ioiadà affidò la sorveglianza del tempio ai sacerdoti e ai leviti, che Davide aveva divisi in classi per il tempio, perché offrissero olocausti al Signore, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, fra gioia e canti, secondo le disposizioni di Davide. | 18 And Jehoiada posted watchmen for the house of the LORD under the direction of the Levitical priests and the Levites whom David had organized to be in charge of the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David. |
| 19 Stabilì i portieri alle porte del tempio perché non vi entrasse alcun immondo per nessun motivo. | 19 He stationed the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD so that no one should enter who was in any way unclean. |
| 20 Prese i capi di centinaia, i notabili e quanti avevano autorità in mezzo al popolo del paese e fece scendere il re dal tempio. Attraverso la porta Superiore lo condussero nella reggia e lo fecero sedere sul trono regale. | 20 And he took the captains, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD, marching through the upper gate to the king's house. And they set the king upon the royal throne. |
| 21 Tutto il popolo fu in festa e la città restò tranquilla benché Atalia fosse stata uccisa a fil di spada. | 21 So all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet, after Athaliah had been slain with the sword. |
