BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Giòsafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con loro nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioram.	1 Then Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David; his sonJehoram succeeded him.
2 I suoi fratelli, figli di Giòsafat, erano Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia; tutti costoro erano figli di Giòsafat re di Israele.	2 Jehoram's brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael andShephatiah -- al of them sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
3 Il padre aveva dato loro ricchi doni: argento, oro e oggetti preziosi insieme con fortezze in Giuda; il regno però l'aveva assegnato a Ioram, perché era il primogenito.	3 Their father had lavishly given them presents of silver, gold and other valuables as wel as fortifiedtowns in Judah; but the throne he bequeathed to Jehoram since he was the first-born.
4 Ioram prese in possesso il regno di suo padre e quando si fu rafforzato, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e, con loro, anche alcuni ufficiali di Israele.	4 Jehoram, having taken control of his father's kingdom and secured his own position, put al hisbrothers to the sword and some officials of Israel too.
5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.	5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eight years inJerusalem.
6 Seguì la strada dei re di Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab, perché sua moglie era figlia di Acab. Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore,	6 He followed the example of the kings of Israel as the House of Ahab were doing, he having marriedone of Ahab's daughters; and he did what is displeasing to Yahweh.
7 ma il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide a causa dell'alleanza che aveva conclusa con Davide e della promessa fattagli di lasciargli sempre una lampada, per lui e per i suoi figli.	7 But Yahweh would not destroy the House of David, because of the covenant which he had made withDavid, promising to provide him and his sons with a lamp for ever.
8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò a Giuda e si elesse un re.	8 In his time Edom threw off the domination of Judah and set up a king for itself.
9 Ioram con i suoi ufficiali e con tutti i carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Idumei che l'avevano accerchiato, insieme con gli ufficiali dei suoi carri.	9 Jehoram crossed the frontier, and with him his commanders and al his chariots. Under cover of dark,he and his chariot commanders broke through the Edomites surrounding him.
10 Ma Edom, ribellatosi a Giuda, ancora oggi è indipendente. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.	10 Thus Edom threw off the domination of Judah and has remained free to the present day. Libnahrevolted against him at the same time, because he had abandoned Yahweh, God of his ancestors.
11 Egli inoltre eresse alture nelle città di Giuda, spinse alla idolatria gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e fece traviare Giuda.	11 What is more, he set up high places in the highlands of Judah, leading the citizens of Jerusalem andthe people of Judah into apostasy.
12 Gli giunse da parte del profeta Elia uno scritto che diceva: "Dice il Signore, Dio di Davide tuo padre: Perché non hai seguito la condotta di Giòsafat tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa re di Giuda,	12 Something written by the prophet Elijah then came into his hands. It said, 'Yahweh, God of yourancestor David, says this, "Since you have not fol owed the example of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa kingof Judah,
13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re di Israele, hai spinto alla idolatria Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, e inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, cioè la famiglia di tuo padre, uomini migliori di te,	13 but have fol owed the example of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem into apostasy, just as the House of Ahab has led Israel into apostasy, and have even murdered yourbrothers, your own family, who were better men than you,
14 ecco, il Signore farà cadere un grave disastro sul tuo popolo, sui tuoi figli, sulle tue mogli e su tutti i tuoi beni.	14 Yahweh is going to afflict your people, your sons, your wives and al your property with a greatcalamity,
15 Tu soffrirai gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che per essa le tue viscere ti usciranno nel giro di due anni".	15 and you yourself with a severe disease affecting your bowels, as a result of which disease,continuing day after day, you wil suffer protrusion of your bowels." '
16 Il Signore risvegliò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano al fianco degli Etiopi.	16 Yahweh then roused the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs living near the Cushites againstJehoram.
17 Costoro attaccarono Giuda, vi penetrarono e razziarono tutti i beni della reggia, asportando anche i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase nessun figlio, se non Ioacaz il più piccolo.	17 They invaded Judah, forcing their way into it and carrying off all the property to be found in the king'spalace, as wel as his sons and his wives, so that he was left no sons at al except his youngest son Jehoahaz.
18 Dopo tutto questo, il Signore lo colpì con una malattia intestinale inguaribile.	18 And after al this, Yahweh afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels;
19 Andò avanti per più di un anno; verso la fine del secondo anno, gli uscirono le viscere per la gravità della malattia e così morì fra dolori atroci. E per lui il popolo non bruciò aromi, come si erano bruciati per i suoi padri.	19 in due time, after about two years, his bowels protruded as a result of his disease and he died inacute pain. His people did not make a funeral pyre for him, as they had for his ancestors.
20 Quando divenne re, egli aveva trentadue anni; regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianti; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.	20 He was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.He passed away unlamented and was buried in the City of David, though not in the tombs of the kings.
