DIODATI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Salmo di Asaf CERTAMENTE Iddio è buono ad Israele, A quelli che son puri di cuore.	1 A psalm of Asaph. How good God is to the upright, the Lord, to those who are clean of heart!
2 Ora, quant’è a me, quasi che incapparono i miei piedi; Come nulla mancò che i miei passi non isdrucciolassero.	2 I But, as for me, I lost my balance; my feet all but slipped,
3 Perciocchè io portava invidia agl’insensati, Veggendo la prosperità degli empi.	3 Because I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 Perciocchè non vi sono alcuni legami alla lor morte; E la lor forza è prosperosa.	4 For they suffer no pain; their bodies are healthy and sleek.
5 Quando gli altri uomini sono in travagli, essi non vi son punto; E non ricevono battiture col rimanente degli uomini.	5 They are free of the burdens of life; they are not afflicted like others.
6 Perciò, la superbia li cinge a guisa di collana; La violenza li involge come un vestimento.	6 Thus pride adorns them as a necklace; violence clothes them as a robe.
7 Gli occhi escono loro fuori per lo grasso; Avanzano le immaginazioni del cuor loro.	7 Out of their stupidity comes sin; evil thoughts flood their hearts.
8 Son dissoluti, e per malizia ragionano di oppressare; Parlano da alto.	8 They scoff and spout their malice; from on high they utter threats.
9 Mettono la lor bocca dentro al cielo, E la lor lingua passeggia per la terra.	9 They set their mouths against the heavens, their tongues roam the earth.
10 Perciò, il popolo di Dio riviene a questo, Veggendo che l’acqua gli è spremuta a bere a pien calice,	10 So my people turn to them and drink deeply of their words.
11 E dice: Come può essere che Iddio sappia ogni cosa, E che vi sia conoscimento nell’Altissimo?	11 They say, "Does God really know?" "Does the Most High have any knowledge?"
12 Ecco, costoro son empi, e pur godono pace e tranquillità in perpetuo; Ed accrescono le lor facoltà.	12 Such, then, are the wicked, always carefree, increasing their wealth.
13 Indarno adunque in vero ho nettato il mio cuore, Ed ho lavate le mie mani nell’innocenza.	13 Is it in vain that I have kept my heart clean, washed my hands in innocence?
14 Poichè son battuto tuttodì, Ed ogni mattina il mio gastigamento si rinnuova	14 For I am afflicted day after day, chastised every morning.
15 Se io dico: Io ragionerò così; Ecco, io son disleale inverso la generazione de’ tuoi figliuoli.	15 Had I thought, "I will speak as they do," I would have betrayed your people.
16 Io ho adunque pensato di volere intender questo; Ma la cosa mi è parsa molto molesta.	16 Though I tried to understand all this, it was too difficult for me,
17 Infino a tanto che sono entrato ne’ santuari di Dio; Ed ho considerato il fine di coloro.	17 Till I entered the sanctuary of God and came to understand their end.
18 Certo, tu li metti in isdruccioli; Tu li trabocchi in ruine.	18 You set them, indeed, on a slippery road; you hurl them down to ruin.
19 Come sono eglino stati distrutti in un momento! Come son venuti meno, e sono stati consumati per casi spaventevoli!	19 How suddenly they are devastated; undone by disasters forever!
20 Son come un sogno, dopo che l’uomo si è destato; O Signore, quando tu ti risveglierai, tu sprezzerai la lor vana apparenza	20 They are like a dream after waking, Lord, dismissed like shadows when you arise.
21 Quando il mio cuore era inacerbito, Ed io era punto nelle reni;	21 Since my heart was embittered and my soul deeply wounded,
22 Io era insensato, e non aveva conoscimento; Io era inverso te simile alle bestie.	22 I was stupid and could not understand; I was like a brute beast in your presence.
23 Ma pure io sono stato del continuo teco; Tu mi hai preso per la man destra.	23 Yet I am always with you; you take hold of my right hand.
24 Tu mi condurrai per lo tuo consiglio, E poi mi riceverai in gloria;	24 With your counsel you guide me, and at the end receive me with honor.
25 Chi è per me in cielo, fuor che te? Io non voglio altri che te in terra.	25 Whom else have I in the heavens? None beside you delights me on earth.
26 La mia carne ed il mio cuore erano venuti meno: Ma Iddio è la rocca del mio cuore, e la mia parte in eterno.	26 Though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the rock of my heart, my portion forever.
27 Perciocchè, ecco, quelli che si allontanano da te periranno; Tu distruggerai ogni uomo che fornicando si svia da te.	27 But those who are far from you perish; you destroy those unfaithful to you.
28 Ma quant’è a me, egli mi è buono di accostarmi a Dio; Io ho posta nel Signore Iddio la mia confidanza, Per raccontar tutte le opere sue	28 As for me, to be near God is my good, to make the Lord GOD my refuge. I shall declare all your works in the gates of daughter Zion.
