For David, when he changed his countenance before Achimelech, who dismissed him, and he went his way. [1 Kings 21.] | 1 Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, who forced him to depart. |
I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be always in my mouth. | 2 I will bless the LORD at all times; praise shall be always in my mouth. |
In the Lord shall my soul be praised: let the meek hear and rejoice. | 3 My soul will glory in the LORD that the poor may hear and be glad. |
O magnify the Lord with me; and let us extol his name together. | 4 Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. |
I sought the Lord, and he heard me; and he delivered me from all my troubles. | 5 I sought the LORD, who answered me, delivered me from all my fears. |
Come ye to him and be enlightened: and your faces shall not be confounded. | 6 Look to God that you may be radiant with joy and your faces may not blush for shame. |
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: and saved him out of all his troubles. | 7 In my misfortune I called, the LORD heard and saved me from all distress. |
The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: and shall deliver them. | 8 The angel of the LORD, who encamps with them, delivers all who fear God. |
O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: blessed is the man that hopeth in him. | 9 Learn to savor how good the LORD is; happy are those who take refuge in him. |
Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. | 10 Fear the LORD, you holy ones; nothing is lacking to those who fear him. |
The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good. | 11 The powerful grow poor and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. |
Come, children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. | 12 Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. |
Who is the man that desireth life: who loveth to see good days? | 13 Who among you loves life, takes delight in prosperous days? |
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. | 14 Keep your tongue from evil, your lips from speaking lies. |
Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it. | 15 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. |
The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers. | 16 The LORD has eyes for the just and ears for their cry. |
But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. | 17 The LORD'S face is against evildoers to wipe out their memory from the earth. |
The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles. | 18 When the just cry out, the LORD hears and rescues them from all distress. |
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit. | 19 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed. |
Many are the afflictions of the just; but out of them all will the Lord deliver them. | 20 Many are the troubles of the just, but the LORD delivers from them all. |
The Lord keepeth all their bones, not one of them shall be broken. | 21 God watches over all their bones; not a one shall be broken. |
The death of the wicked is very evil: and they that hate the just shall be guilty. | 22 Evil will slay the wicked; those who hate the just are condemned. |
The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall offend. | 23 The LORD redeems loyal servants; no one is condemned whose refuge is God. |
