| 1 El año noveno de Sedecías, rey de Judá, el mes décimo, Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, llegó con todo su ejército y puso sitio a Jerusalén. | 1 In the ninth year of Sedecias king of Juda, in the tenth month, came Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and all his army to Jerusalem, and they besieged it. |
| 2 El año undécimo de Sedecías, el día nueve del cuarto mes, abrieron brecha en las murallas de la ciudad. | 2 And in the I eleventh year of Sedecias, in the fourth month, the fifth day of the month, the city was opened. |
| 3 Los generales del rey de Babilonia entraron y se instalaron en la Puerta Central. Eran Nergal-Saréser, príncipe de Sin-Maguir, jefe de los magos, Nabusazbán, jefe de los eunucos, y el resto de los generales del rey de Babilonia. | 3 And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate: Neregel, Sereser, Semegarnabu, Sarsachim, Rabsares, Neregel, Serezer, Rebmag, and all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon. |
| 4 Cuando vieron lo ocurrido, Sedecías, rey de Judá, y los soldados aprovecharon la noche para huir de la ciudad. Atravesaron los jardines reales por la puerta que había entre la doble muralla y huyeron en dirección a la estepa. | 4 And when Sedecias the king of Juda and all the men of war saw them, they fled: and they went forth in the night out of the city by the way of the king's garden, and by the gate that was between the two walls, and they went; out to the way of the desert. |
| 5 Pero el ejército caldeo los persiguió, y dieron alcance a Sedecías en las estepas de Jericó. Lo apresaron y lo condujeron a Riblá, en territorio de Jamat, donde estaba Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, que allí mismo dictó sentencia. | 5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them: and they took Sedecias in the plain of the desert of Jericho, and when they had taken him, they brought him to Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon to Reblatha, which is in the land of Emath: and he gave judgment upon him. |
| 6 El rey de Babilonia ordenó degollar en Riblá a los hijos de Sedecías en presencia de este; y también mandó degollar a la gente principal de Judá. | 6 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Sedecias, in Reblatha, before his eyes: and the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Juda. |
| 7 A Sedecías le sacó los ojos y lo cargó de cadenas para llevárselo a Babilonia. | 7 He also put out the eyes of Sedecias: and bound him with fetters, to be carried to Babylon. |
| 8 Los caldeos pegaron fuego al palacio real y a las viviendas de la ciudad, y derribaron las murallas de Jerusalén. | 8 And the Chaldeans burnt the king's house, and the houses of the people with fire, and they threw down the wall of Jerusalem. |
| 9 Nabuzardán, jefe de la guardia, deportó a Babilonia a la gente que había quedado en la ciudad y a los desertores que se habían pasado a ellos. | 9 And Nabuzardan the general of the army carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and the fugitives that had gone over to him, and the rest of the people that remained. |
| 10 En cuanto a la gente pobre, carente de posesiones, Nabuzardán, jefe de la guardia, los dejó en Judá y les entregó viñas y tierras. | 10 But Nabuzardan the general left some of the poor people that had nothing at all, in the land of Juda, and he gave them vineyards, and cisterns at that time. |
| 11 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había dado a Nabuzardán, jefe de la guardia, la siguiente orden respecto a Jeremías: | 11 Now Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had given charge to Nabuzardan the general concerning Jeremias, saying: |
| 12 «Tómalo a tu cargo y no le hagas daño alguno. Y concédele lo que te pida». | 12 Take him, and set thy eyes upon him, and do him no harm: but as he hath a mind, so do with him. |
| 13 Nabuzardán, jefe de la guardia; Nabusazbán, jefe de los eunucos, y Nergal-Saréser, jefe de los magos, | 13 Therefore Nabuzardan the general sent, and Nabusezban, and Rabsares, and Neregel, and Sereser, and Rebmag, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon, |
| 14 mandaron traer a Jeremías del patio de la guardia y se lo confiaron a Godolías, hijo de Ajicán y nieto de Safán, para que lo llevase a su casa y así pudiera hacer vida normal. | 14 Sent, and took Jeremias out of the court of the prison, and committed him to Codolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan, that he might go home, and dwell among the people. |
| 15 Durante su detención en el patio de la guardia, Jeremías había recibido esta palabra del Señor: | 15 But the word of the Lord came to Jeremias, when he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying: Go, and tell Abdemelech the Ethiopian, saying: |
| 16 «Ve y comunica lo siguiente a Ebedmélec el cusita: Esto dice el Señor del universo, Dios de Israel: Voy a hacer que se cumplan las palabras que he pronunciado contra esta ciudad, palabras de desgracia, que no de ventura. Tú mismo podrás comprobarlo aquel día. | 16 Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will bring my words upon this city unto evil, and not unto good: and they shall be accomplished in thy sight in that day. |
| 17 Pero aquel día yo te pondré a salvo —oráculo del Señor— y no serás entregado en manos de los hombres con los que temes encontrarte; | 17 And I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord: and thou shalt not be given into the hands of the men whom thou fearest: |
| 18 pues pienso librarte para que no caigas víctima de la espada. Tu vida será tu botín, por haber confiado en mí —oráculo del Señor—». | 18 But delivering, I will deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword : but thy life shall be saved for thee, because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the Lord. |
