| 1 ¿Qué diremos, pues? ¿Que debemos permanecer en el pecado para que la gracia se multiplique? ¡De ningún modo! | 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? |
| 2 Los que hemos muerto al pecado ¿cómo seguir viviendo en él? | 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? |
| 3 ¿O es que ignoráis que cuantos fuimos bautizados en Cristo Jesús, fuimos bautizados en su muerte? | 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? |
| 4 Fuimos, pues, con él sepultados por el bautismo en la muerte, a fin de que, al igual que Cristo fue resucitado de entre los muertos por medio de la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros vivamos una vida nueva. | 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. |
| 5 Porque si hemos hecho una misma cosa con él por una muerte semejante a la suya, también lo seremos por una resurrección semejante; | 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. |
| 6 sabiendo que nuestro hombre viejo fue crucificado con él, a fin de que fuera destruido este cuerpo de pecado y cesáramos de ser esclavos del pecado. | 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. |
| 7 Pues el que está muerto, queda librado del pecado. | 7 For he who has died is freed from sin. |
| 8 Y si hemos muerto con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él, | 8 But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. |
| 9 sabiendo que Cristo, una vez resucitado de entre los muertos, ya no muere más, y que la muerte no tiene ya señorío sobre él. | 9 For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. |
| 10 Su muerte fue un morir al pecado, de una vez para siempre; mas su vida, es un vivir para Dios. | 10 The death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. |
| 11 Así también vosotros, consideraos como muertos al pecado y vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús. | 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. |
| 12 No reine, pues, el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal de modo que obedezcáis a sus apetencias. | 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. |
| 13 Ni hagáis ya de vuestros miembros armas de injusticia al servicio del pecado; sino más bien ofreceos vosotros mismos a Dios como muertos retornados a la vida; y vuestros miembros, como armas de justicia al servicio de Dios. | 13 Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. |
| 14 Pues el pecado no dominará ya sobre vosotros, ya que no estáis bajo la ley sino bajo la gracia. | 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. |
| 15 Pues ¿qué? ¿Pecaremos porque no estamos bajo la ley sino bajo la gracia? ¡De ningún modo! | 15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! |
| 16 ¿No sabéis que al ofreceros a alguno como esclavos para obedecerle, os hacéis esclavos de aquel a quien obedecéis: bien del pecado, para la muerte, bien de obediencia, para la justicia? | 16 Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? |
| 17 Pero gracias a Dios, vosotros, que erais esclavos del pecado, habéis obedecido de corazón a aquel modelo de doctrina al que fuisteis entregados, | 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, |
| 18 y liberados del pecado, os habéis hecho esclavos de la justicia. - | 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. |
| 19 Hablo en términos humanos, en atención a vuestra flaqueza natural -. Pues si en otros tiempos ofrecisteis vuestros miembros como esclavos a la impureza y al desorden hasta desordenaros, ofrecedlos igualmente ahora a la justicia para la santidad. | 19 I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield your members to righteousness for sanctification. |
| 20 Pues cuando erais esclavos del pecado, erais libres respecto de la justicia. | 20 When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. |
| 21 ¿Qué frutos cosechasteis entonces de aquellas cosas que al presente os avergüenzan? Pues su fin es la muerte. | 21 But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death. |
| 22 Pero al presente, libres del pecado y esclavos de Dios, fructificáis para la santidad; y el fin, la vida eterna. | 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is sanctification and its end, eternal life. |
| 23 Pues el salario del pecado es la muerte; pero el don gratuito de Dios, la vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro. | 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
