1 Los jefes de familia del clan de los hijos de Galaad, hijo de Makir, hijo de Manasés, uno de los clanes de los hijos de José, se presentaron y dijeron delante de Moisés y de los principales jefes de las casas paternas de los israelitas:	1 And the princes of the families of Galaad, the son of Machir, the son of Manasses, of the stock Of the children of Joseph, came and spoke to Moses before the princes of Israel, and said:
2 «Yahveh mandó a mi Señor que diera la tierra en herencia, por suertes, a los israelitas, y mi Señor recibió orden de Yahveh de dar la herencia de Selofjad, nuestro hermano, a sus hijas.	2 The Lord hath commanded thee, my lord, that thou shouldst divide the land by lot to the children of Israel, and that thou shouldst give to the daughters of Salphaad our brother the possession due to their father:
3 Si resulta que se casan con alguno de otra tribu israelita, será arrancada su parte de la herencia de nuestras familias. Aumentará entonces la herencia de la tribu a la que vayan a pertenecer, y se reducirá la herencia que nos tocó en suerte.	3 Now if men of another tribe take them to wives, their possession will follow them, and being transferred to another tribe, will be a diminishing of our inheritance.
4 Y cuando llegue el jubileo para los israelitas, se añadirá la herencia de ellas a la herencia de la tribu a la que vayan a pertenecer y se restará su herencia de la herencia de la tribu de nuestros padres.»	4 And so it shall come to pass, that when the jubilee, that is, the fiftieth year of remission, is come, the distribution made by the lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall pass to the others.
5 Moisés, según la orden de Yahveh, mandó lo siguiente a los israelitas: «Dice bien la tribu de los hijos de José.	5 Moses answered the children of Israel, and said by the command of the Lord: The tribe of the children of Joseph hath spoken rightly.
6 Esto es lo que Yahveh ordenó acerca de las hijas de Selofjad: Tomarán por esposos a los que bien les parezca, con tal que se casen dentro de los clanes de la tribu de su padre.	6 And this is the law promulgated by the Lord touching the daughters of Salphaad: Let them marry to whom they will, only so that it be to men of their own tribe.
7 La herencia de los israelitas no podrá pasar de una tribu a otra, sino que los israelitas estarán vinculados cada uno a la herencia de la tribu de sus padres.	7 Lest the possession of the children of Israel be mingled from tribe to tribe. For all men shall marry wives of their own tribe and kindred:
8 Y toda hija que posea una herencia en una de las tribus de los israelitas se casará con uno de un clan de la tribu de su padre para que cada uno de los israelitas posea la herencia de sus padres.	8 And all women shall take husbands of the same tribe: that the inheritance may remain in the families,
9 No podrá pasar una herencia de una tribu a otra. Cada una de las tribus de los israelitas quedará vinculada a su heredad.»	9 And that the tribes be not mingled one with another, but remain so
10 Tal como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés, así hicieron las hijas de Selofjad.	10 As they were separated by the Lord. And the daughters of Salphaad did as was commanded:
11 Majlá, Tirsá, Joglá, Milká y Noá, las hijas de Selofjad, se casaron con los hijos de sus tíos paternos.	11 And Maala, and Thersa, and Hegla, and Melcha, and Noa were married to the sons of their uncle by their father
12 Tomaron marido de los clanes de los hijos de Manasés, hijo de José, y así su herencia fue para la tribu del clan de su padre.	12 Of the family of Manasses, who was the son of Joseph: and the possession that had been allotted to them, remained in the tribe and family of their father.
13 Estas son las órdenes y normas que dio Yahveh, por medio de Moisés, a los israelitas, en las Estepas de Moab, cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	13 These are the commandments and judgments, which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to the children of Israel, in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan over against Jericho.
