Éxodo 33

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Anda, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que sacaste de Egipto, a la tierra que yo prometí con juramento a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, diciendo: “A tu posteridad se la daré.”	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.
2 Enviaré delante de ti un ángel y expulsaré al cananeo, al amorreo, al hitita, al perizita, al jivita y al jebuseo.	2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3 Sube a una tierra que mana leche y miel; que yo no subiré contigo, pues eres un pueblo de dura cerviz; no sea que te destruya en el camino.»	3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'
4 Al oír el pueblo estas duras palabras, hizo duelo y nadie se vistió sus galas.	4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.
5 Dijo entonces Yahveh a Moisés: «Di a los israelitas: Vosotros sois un pueblo de dura cerviz. Si yo saliera contigo, aunque fuera un solo momento, te destruiría. Ahora, pues, quítate tus galas, para que yo sepa qué he de hacer contigo.»	5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '
6 Y los israelitas se despojaron de sus galas a partir del monte Horeb.	6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.
7 Tomó Moisés la Tienda y la plantó para él a cierta distancia fuera del campamento; la llamó Tienda del Encuentro. De modo que todo el que tenía que consultar a Yahveh salía hacia la Tienda del Encuentro, que estaba fuera del campamento.	7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.
8 Cuando salía Moisés hacia la Tienda, todo el pueblo se levantaba y se quedaba de pie a la puerta de su tienda, siguiendo con la vista a Moisés hasta que entraba en la Tienda.	8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.
9 Y una vez entrado Moisés en la tienda, bajaba la columna de nube y se detenía a la puerta de la Tienda, mientras Yahveh hablaba con Moisés.	9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.
10 Todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube detenida a la puerta de la Tienda y se levantaba el pueblo, y cada cual se postraba junto a la puerta de su tienda.	10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.
11 Yahveh hablaba con Moisés cara a cara, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Luego volvía Moisés al campamento, pero su ayudante, el joven Josué, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba del interior de la Tienda.	11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.
12 Dijo Moisés a Yahveh: «Mira, tú me dices: Haz subir a este pueblo; pero no me has indicado a quién enviarás conmigo; a pesar de que me has dicho: “Te conozco por tu nombre”, y también: “Has hallado gracia a mis ojos.”	12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."
13 Ahora, pues, si realmente he hallado gracia a tus ojos, hazme saber tu camino, para que yo te conozca y halle gracia a tus ojos, y mira que esta gente es tu pueblo.»	13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'
14 Respondió él: «Yo mismo iré contigo y te daré descanso.»	14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'
15 Contestóle: «Si no vienes tú mismo, no nos hagas partir de aquí.	15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,
16 Pues ¿en qué podrá conocerse que he hallado gracia a tus ojos, yo y tu pueblo, sino en eso, en que tú marches con nosotros? Así nos distinguiremos, yo y tu pueblo, de todos los pueblos que hay sobre la tierra.»	16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'
17 Respondió Yahveh a Moisés: «Haré también esto que me acabas de pedir, pues has hallado gracia a mis ojos, y yo te conozco por tu nombre.»	17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'
18 Entonces dijo Moisés: «Déjame ver, por favor, tu gloria.»	18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'
19 El le contestó: «Yo haré pasar ante tu vista toda mi bondad y pronunciaré delante de ti el nombre de Yahveh; pues hago gracia a quien hago gracia y tengo misericordia con quien tengo misericordia.»	19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.
20 Y añadió: «Pero mi rostro no podrás verlo; porque no puede verme el hombre y seguir viviendo.»	20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'
21 Luego dijo Yahveh: «Mira, hay un lugar junto a mí; tú te colocarás sobre la peña.	21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,
22 Y al pasar mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que yo haya pasado.	22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.
23 Luego apartaré mi mano, para que veas mis espaldas; pero mi rostro no se puede ver.»	23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'
