Génesis 30

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vio Raquel que no daba hijos a Jacob, y celosa de su hermana dijo a Jacob: «Dame hijos, o si no me muero.»	1 Rachel, seeing that she herself gave Jacob no children, became jealous of her sister. And she said toJacob, 'Give me children, or I shal die!'
2 Jacob se enfadó con Raquel y dijo: ¿Estoy yo acaso en el lugar de Dios, que te ha negado el fruto del vientre?»	2 This made Jacob angry with Rachel, and he retorted, 'Am I in the position of God, who has denied youmotherhood?'
3 Ella dijo: «Ahí tienes a mi criada Bilhá; únete a ella y que dé a luz sobre mis rodillas: así también yo ahijaré de ella.»	3 So she said, 'Here is my slave-girl, Bilhah. Sleep with her and let her give birth on my knees; throughher, then, I too shal have children!'
4 Diole, pues, a su esclava Bilhá por mujer; y Jacob unióse a ella.	4 So she gave him her slave-girl Bilhah as concubine. Jacob slept with her,
5 Concibió Bilhá y dio a Jacob un hijo.	5 and Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son by Jacob.
6 Y dijo Raquel: «Dios me ha hecho justicia, pues ha oído mi voz y me ha dado un hijo.» Por eso le llamó Dan.	6 Then Rachel said, 'God has done me justice; yes, he has heard my prayer and given me a son.'Accordingly she named him Dan.
7 Otra vez concibió Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel, y dio a Jacob un segundo hijo.	7 Again Rachel's slave-girl Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a second son by Jacob.
8 Y dijo Raquel: «Me he trabado con mi hermana a brazo partido y la he podido»; y le llamó Neftalí.	8 Then Rachel said, 'I have fought a fateful battle with my sister, and I have won!' So she named himNaphtali.
9 Viendo Lía que había dejado de dar a luz, tomó a su esclava Zilpá, y se la dio a Jacob por mujer.	9 Now Leah, seeing that she had ceased to bear children, took her slave-girl Zilpah and gave her toJacob as concubine.
10 Y Zilpá, la esclava de Lía, dio a Jacob un hijo.	10 So Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a son by Jacob.
11 Lía dijo: «¡Enhorabuena!» Y le llamó Gad.	11 Then Leah exclaimed, 'What good fortune!' So she named him Gad.
12 Zilpá, la esclava de Lía, dio a Jacob un segundo hijo,	12 Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a second son by Jacob.
13 y dijo Lía: «¡Feliz de mí! pues me felicitarán las demás.» Y le llamó Aser.	13 Then Leah said, 'What blessedness! Women will cal me blessed!' So she named him Asher.
14 Una vez fue Rubén, al tiempo de la siega del trigo, y encontró en el campo unas mandrágoras que trajo a su madre Lía. Y dijo Raquel a Lía “«¿Quieres darme las mandrágoras de tu hijo?»	14 One day, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes in the field and broughtthem to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.'
15 Respondióle: «¿Es poco haberte llevado mi marido, que encima vas a llevarte las mandrágoras de mi hijo?» Dijo Raquel: «Sea: que se acueste contigo Jacob esta noche, a cambio de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.»	15 Leah replied, 'Is it not enough to have taken my husband, without your taking my son's mandrakesas well?' So Rachel said, 'Very wel , he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes.'
16 A la tarde, cuando Jacob volvió del campo, sale Lía a su encuentro y le dice: «Tienes que venir conmigo porque he pagado por ti unas mandrágoras de mi hijo.» Y él se acostó con ella aquella noche.	16 When Jacob came back from the fields that night, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You mustcome to me, for I have hired you at the price of my son's mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night.
17 Dios oyó a Lía, que concibió y dio un quinto hijo a Jacob.	17 God heard Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son by Jacob.
18 Y dijo Lía: «Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, a mí, que tuve que dar mi esclava a mi marido.» Y le llamó Isacar.	18 Then Leah said, 'God has given me my reward for giving my slave-girl to my husband.' So shenamed him Issachar.
19 Lía concibió otra vez y dio el sexto hijo a Jacob.	19 Again Leah conceived and gave birth to a sixth son by Jacob,
20 Y dijo Lía: «Me ha hecho Dios un buen regalo. Ahora sí que me apreciará mi marido, pues le he dado seis hijos.» Y le llamó Zabulón.	20 and said, 'God has given me a fine gift; now my husband wil bring me presents, for I have borne himsix sons.' So she named him Zebulun.
21 Después dio a luz una hija a la que llamó Dina.	21 Later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.
22 Entonces se acordó Dios de Raquel. Dios la oyó y abrió su seno,	22 Then God remembered Rachel; he heard her and opened her womb.
23 y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y dijo: «Ha quitado Dios mi afrenta.»	23 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, 'God has taken away my disgrace!'
24 Y le llamó José, como diciendo: «Añádame Yahveh otro hijo.»	24 She named him Joseph, saying, 'May Yahweh add another son for me!'
25 Cuando Raquel hubo dado a luz a José, dijo Jacob a Labán: «Déjame que me vaya a mi lugar y a mi tierra.	25 When Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Release me and let me go home tomy own country.
26 Dame a mis mujeres y a mis hijos por quienes te he servido, para que me vaya; pues bien sabes bajo qué condiciones te he servido.»	26 Give me my wives for whom I have worked for you, and my children, and let me go. You are welaware how long I have worked for you.'
27 Díjole Labán: «¡Si en algo me estimas!... Yo estaba bajo un maleficio, pero Yahveh me ha bendecido gracias a ti.»	27 Laban replied, 'If I have done what pleases you . . . I have learnt by divination that Yahweh hasblessed me because of you.
28 Y agregó: «Fíjame tu paga, y te la daré.»	28 So name your wages,' he added, 'and I wil pay.'
29 Respondióle: «Tu sabes cómo te he servido, y cómo le fue a tu ganado conmigo:	29 He replied, 'You know how hard I have worked for you, and how your stock has fared in my charge.
30 bien poca cosa tenías antes de venir yo, pero ya se ha multiplicado muchísimo, y Yahveh te ha bendecido a mi llegada. Pues bien: ¿cuándo voy a hacer yo también algo por mi casa?»	30 The little you had before I came has increased enormously, and Yahweh has blessed you wherever Ihave been. When am I to provide for my own household too?'
31 Dijo Labán: «¿Qué he de darte?» Respondió Jacob: «No me des nada. Si haces por mí esta, volveré a apacentar tu rebaño. Fíjate bien:	31 Laban said, 'How much am I to pay you?' Jacob replied, 'You need not pay me anything. I shallchange my mind and go on tending your flock, if you do this one thing for me.
32 Voy a desfilar hoy con todo tu rebaño. Aparta toda oveja negra y las cabras pintas y manchadas, y eso será mi paga,	32 'Go through your entire flock today and remove every black animal among the sheep, and everyspeckled or spotted one among the goats. These wil be my wages,
33 y la garantía de mi honradez el día de mañana. Cuando te presente a controlar mi paga, todo lo que no fuere pinto y manchado entre las cabras y negro entre los corderos, será lo que he robado.»	33 and my uprightness wil answer for me later: when you come to check my wages, every goat I havethat is not speckled or spotted, and every sheep that is not black will count as stolen by me.'
34 Dijo Labán: «Bien, sea como dices.»	34 Laban replied, 'Good, just as you say.'
35 Y aquel mismo día apartó los machos cabríos listados y manchados, todo lo que tenía en sí algo de blanco, así como todo lo negro entre las ovejas, y lo confió a sus hijos,	35 That same day he removed the striped and speckled he-goats and all the spotted and speckled she-goats, every one that had white on it, and al the black sheep, and entrusted these to his sons.
36 interponiendo tres jornadas de camino entre él y Jacob. Este último apacentaba el resto del rebaño de Labán.	36 Then he put a three days' journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob grazed the rest ofLaban's flock.
37 Entonces Jacob se procuró unas vares verdes de álamo, de almendro y de plátano, y labró en ellas unas muescas blancas, dejando al descubierto lo blanco de las varas,	37 Jacob then got fresh shoots from poplar, almond and plane trees, and peeled them in white strips,laying bare the white part of the shoots.
38 e hincó las varas así labradas en las pilas o abrevaderos a donde venían las reses a beber, justo delante de las reses, con lo que éstas se calentaban al acercarse a beber.	38 He set up the shoots he had peeled in front of the animals, in the troughs, in the water-holes wherethe animals came to drink. Since they mated when they came to drink,
39 O sea, que se calentaban a la vista de las varas, y así parían crías listadas, pintas o manchadas.	39 the goats thus mated in front of the shoots and so the goats produced striped, spotted and speckledyoung.
40 Luego separó Jacob los machos, echándolos a lo listado y negro que ahora había en el rebaño de Labán, y así se fue formando unos hatajos propios, que no mezclaba con el rebaño de Labán.	40 The ewes, on the other hand, Jacob kept apart and made these face whatever was striped or blackin Laban's flock. Thus he built up droves of his own which he did not put with Laban's flocks.
41 Además, siempre que se calentaban las reses vigorosas, poníales Jacob las varas ante los ojos en las pilas, para que se calentaran bajo el influjo de las varas;	41 Furthermore, whenever the sturdier animals were mating, Jacob put the shoots where the animalscould see them, in the troughs, so that they would mate in front of the shoots.
42 mas cuando el ganado estaba débil, no las ponía de modo que las crías débiles eran para Labán, y las vigorosas para Jacob.	42 But when the animals were feeble, he did not put them there; so Laban got the feeble, and Jacob thesturdy.
43 Así que éste medró muchísimo, y llegó a tener rebaños numerosos, y siervas y siervos y camellos y asnos.	43 Thus the man grew extremely rich, and came to own large flocks, men and women slaves, camelsand donkeys.
