1 Colui che vuol ritirarsi dall'amico cerca pretesti; ma sarà esecrabile in ogni tempo.	1 In estrangement one seeks pretexts: with all persistence he picks a quarrel.
2 Lo stolto non accoglie le parole della prudenza, se tu non parli secondo quello che egli ha nel cuore.	2 The fool takes no delight in understanding, but rather in displaying what he thinks.
3 L'empio, giunto nel profondo dei peccati, disprezza, ma lo inseguono le ignominie e l'obbrobrio.	3 With wickedness comes contempt, and with disgrace comes scorn.
4 Le parole che vengon dalla bocca del saggio sono acqua profonda; è un torrente che inonda la fontana della sapienza.	4 The words from a man's mouth are deep waters, but the source of wisdom is a flowing brook.
5 Non sta bene aver riguardi alla persona dell'empio per sviare dalla verità nel giudizio.	5 It is not good to be partial to the guilty, and so to reject a rightful claim.
6 Le labbra dello stolto s'impaccian nelle risse, e la sua bocca provoca litigi.	6 The fool's lips lead him into strife, and his mouth provokes a beating.
7 La bocca dello stolto lo demolisce, e le sue labbra son la sua rovina.	7 The fool's mouth is his ruin; his lips are a snare to his life.
8 Le parole della lingua doppia sembrar semplici, ma penetran nell'intimo delle viscere. Il timore abbatte il pigro, gli uomini effeminati patiranno la fame.	8 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.
9 Chi è molle e infingardo nel suo lavoro è fratello di chi dissipa quanto ha fatto.	9 The man who is slack in his work is own brother to the man who is destructive.
10 Il nome del Signore è torre fortissima, a lei ricorre il giusto, e sarà in luogo sicuro.	10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the just man runs to it and is safe.
11 I beni del ricco sono la sua città forte, son come valida muraglia intorno a lui.	11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; he fancies it a high wall.
12 Prima della rovina il cuore dell'uomo s'esalta, e prima d'essere esaltato è umiliato.	12 Before his downfall a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honors.
13 Chi risponde prima d'avere ascoltato si mostra stolto e degno di confusione.	13 He who answers before he hears-- his is the folly and the shame.
14 Lo spirito dell'uomo lo sostiene nella sua debolezza, ma lo spirito facile all'ira chi potrà sostenerlo?	14 A man's spirit sustains him in infirmity-- but a broken spirit who can bear?
15 Il cuore prudente acquisterà la scienza, e l'orecchio dei saggi cerca la dottrina.	15 The mind of the intelligent gains knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 Il regalo che fa un uomo gli apre la strada, gli fa largo dinanzi ai principi.	16 A man's gift clears the way for him, and gains him access to great men.
17 Il giusto è il primo ad accusar se stesso; vien poi il suo amico e l'esamina.	17 The man who pleads his case first seems to be in the right; then his opponent comes and puts him to the test.
18 La sorte finisce le contese, e decide anche tra i grandi.	18 The lot puts an end to disputes, and is decisive in a controversy between the mighty.
19 Il fratello aiutato dal fratello è come città forte, e i giudizi sono come le sbarre delle porte della città.	19 A brother is a better defense than a strong city, and a friend is like the bars of a castle.
20 Col frutto della sua bocca l'uomo empirà il suo ventre, e i proventi dei suoi labbri lo sazieranno.	20 From the fruit of his mouth a man has his fill; with the yield of his lips he sates himself.
21 Morte e vita sono in potere della lingua, chi ne terrà conto ne mangerà i frutti.	21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who make it a friend shall eat its fruit.
22 Chi ha trovato una buona moglie ha trovato una fortuna, e riceverà consolazione dal Signore. Chi ripudia una buona moglie caccia il bene, chi poi tiene un'adultera è stolto ed empio.	22 He who finds a wife finds happiness; it is a favor he receives from the LORD.
23 Il povero parla supplicando, e il ricco risponde con durezza.	23 The poor man implores, but the rich man answers harshly.
24 L'uomo amabile e socievole sarà più amico d'un fratello.	24 Some friends bring ruin on us, but a true friend is more loyal than a brother.
