Livro dos Provérbios 3

1 Meu filho, não te esqueças de meu ensinamento e guarda meus preceitos em teu coração	1 My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart guard my precepts.
2 porque, com longos dias e anos de vida, assegurar-te-ão eles a felicidade.	2 For they shall set before you length of days, and years of life, and peace.
3 Oxalá a bondade e a fidelidade não se afastem de ti! Ata-as ao teu pescoço, grava-as em teu coração!	3 Let not mercy and truth abandon you: encircle them around your throat, and inscribe them on the tablets of your heart.
4 Assim obterás graça e reputação aos olhos de Deus e dos homens.	4 And so shall you discover grace and good discipline, in the sight of God and men.
5 Que teu coração deposite toda a sua confiança no Senhor! Não te firmes em tua própria sabedoria!	5 Have confidence in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend upon your own prudence.
6 Sejam quais forem os teus caminhos, pensa nele, e ele aplainará tuas sendas.	6 In all your ways, consider him, and he himself will direct your steps.
7 Não sejas sábio aos teus próprios olhos, teme o Senhor e afasta-te do mal.	7 Do not seem wise to yourself. Fear God, and withdraw from evil.
8 Isto será saúde para teu corpo e refrigério para teus ossos.	8 Certainly, it shall be health to your navel, and refreshment to your bones.
9 Honra o Senhor com teus haveres, e com as primícias de todas as tuas colheitas.	9 Honor the Lord with your substance, and give to him from the first of all your fruits,
10 Então, teus celeiros se abarrotarão de trigo e teus lagares transbordarão de vinho.	10 and then your storehouses will be filled with abundance, and your presses shall overflow with wine.
11 Meu filho, não desprezes a correção do Senhor, nem te espantes de que ele te repreenda,	11 My son, do not discard the discipline of the Lord, and do not fall away when you are corrected by him.
12 porque o Senhor castiga aquele a quem ama, e pune o filho a quem muito estima.	12 For whomever the Lord loves, he corrects, and just as a father does with a son, he wins him over.
13 Feliz do homem que encontrou a sabedoria, daquele que adquiriu a inteligência,	13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom and who advances to prudence.
14 porque mais vale este lucro que o da prata, e o fruto que se obtém é melhor que o fino ouro.	14 Her acquisition is better than trading in silver, and her fruit is better than the first and purest gold.
15 Ela é mais preciosa que as pérolas, jóia alguma a pode igualar.	15 She is more precious than all riches, and all that can be desired cannot prevail in comparison to her.
16 Na mão direita ela sustenta uma longa vida; na esquerda, riqueza e glória.	16 Length of days is at her right hand, and at her left hand is wealth and glory.
17 Seus caminhos estão semeados de delícias. Suas veredas são pacíficas.	17 Her ways are beautiful ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 É uma árvore de vida para aqueles que lançarem mãos dela. Quem a ela se apega é um homem feliz.	18 She is a tree of life to those who overtake her, and he who shall take hold of her is blessed.
19 Foi pela sabedoria que o Senhor criou a terra, foi com inteligência que ele formou os céus.	19 The Lord founded the earth on wisdom. He secured the heavens with prudence.
20 Foi pela ciência que se fenderam os abismos, por ela as nuvens destilam o orvalho.	20 By his wisdom, the abyss erupted and the clouds increased with dew.
21 Meu filho, guarda a sabedoria e a reflexão, não as percas de vista.	21 My son, let not these things move away from your eyes. Preserve law as well as counsel.
22 Elas serão a vida de tua alma e um adorno para teu pescoço.	22 And so shall there be life in your soul and grace in your voice.
23 Então caminharás com segurança, sem que o teu pé tropece.	23 Then you shall walk confidently in your way, and your feet will not stumble.
24 Se te deitares, não terás medo. Uma vez deitado, teu sono será doce.	24 When you slumber, you shall not fear. When you rest, your sleep also will be sweet.
25 Não terás a recear nem terrores repentinos, nem a tempestade que cai sobre os ímpios,	25 Do not fear unexpected terror, nor the power of the impious falling upon you.
26 porque o Senhor é tua segurança e preservará teu pé de toda cilada.	26 For the Lord will be at your side, and he will guard your feet, so that you may not be seized.
27 Não negues um benefício a quem o solicita, quando está em teu poder conceder-lho.	27 Do not prevent him who is able from doing good. When you are able, do good yourself too.
28 Não digas ao teu próximo: Vai, volta depois! Eu te darei amanhã, quando dispões de meios.	28 Do not say to your friend: “Go away, and then return. Tomorrow I will give to you.” When you are able to do so, give in the present.
29 Não maquines o mal contra teu vizinho, quando ele habita com toda a confiança perto de ti.	29 Do not undertake evil against your friend, even though he has trust in you.
30 Não litigues com alguém sem ter motivo, se esse alguém não te fez mal algum.	30 Do not contend against a man without cause, even though he has done no evil to you.
31 Não invejes o homem violento, nem adotes o seu procedimento,	31 Do not rival an unjust man, and do not imitate his ways.
32 porque o Senhor detesta o que procede mal, mas reserva sua intimidade para os homens retos.	32 For everyone who ridicules is an abomination to the Lord, and his communication is for the simple.
33 Sobre a casa do ímpio pesa a maldição divina, a bênção do Senhor repousa sobre a habitação do justo.	33 Destitution in the house of the impious is from the Lord. But the habitations of the just shall be blessed.
34 Se ele escarnece dos zombadores, concede a graça aos humildes.	34 He will ridicule those who ridicule, but he will bestow grace upon the mild.
35 A glória será o prêmio do sábio, a ignomínia será a herança dos insensatos.	35 The wise will possess glory. The exaltation of the foolish is disgraceful.
