Giobbe 9

LA SACRA BIBBIA	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Giobbe prese la parola e disse:	1 And Job, responding, said:
2 "Certo, so che è così; come può un uomo essere giusto davanti a Dio?	2 Truly, I know that it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.
3 Se uno volesse disputare con lui, non gli risponderebbe una volta su mille.	3 If he chooses to contend with him, he is not able to respond to him once out of a thousand times.
4 Chi, saggio di mente e potente per la forza, gli si è opposto ed è rimasto illeso?	4 He is understanding in heart and mighty in strength; who has resisted him and yet had peace?
5 Egli sposta le montagne senza che se ne avvedano e le sconvolge nella sua collera.	5 He has moved mountains, and those whom he overthrew in his fury did not know it.
6 Egli scuote la terra dal suo posto e le sue colonne vacillano.	6 He shakes the earth out of its place and its pillars tremble.
7 Ordina al sole di non sorgere e mette un sigillo alle stelle.	7 He commands the sun and it does not rise, and he closes the stars as if under a seal.
8 Egli da solo dispiega i cieli e cammina sulle onde del mare.	8 He alone extends the heavens, and he walks upon the waves of the sea.
9 Egli forma l'Orsa e l'Orione, le Pleiadi e le Costellazioni del sud.	9 He fashions Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the interior of the south.
10 Compie prodigi insondabili e meraviglie senza numero.	10 He accomplishes great and incomprehensible and miraculous things, which cannot be numbered.
11 Ecco, mi passa vicino e non lo vedo, se ne va, e di lui non mi accorgo.	11 If he approaches me, I will not see him; if he departs, I will not understand.
12 Se rapisce qualcosa, chi lo può impedire? Chi può dirgli: "Che cosa fai?".	12 If he suddenly should question, who will answer him? Or who can say, “Why did you do so?”
13 Dio non ritira la sua collera, sotto di lui si curvano le legioni di Raab.	13 God, whose wrath no one is able to resist, and under whom they bend who carry the world,
14 Tanto meno potrei io rispondergli o scegliere argomenti contro di lui.	14 what am I then, that I should answer him and exchange words with him?
15 Anche se avessi ragione non riceverei risposta, dovrei chiedere grazia al mio avversario.	15 And if I now have any justice, I will not respond, but will beseech my judge.
16 Anche se rispondesse al mio appello, non crederei che ha ascoltato la mia voce,	16 And if he should listen to me when I call, I would not believe that he had heard my voice.
17 lui, che mi schiaccia nell'uragano e moltiplica senza ragione le mie ferite.	17 For he will crush me in a whirlwind and multiply my wounds, even without cause.
18 Non mi lascia riprendere fiato, anzi mi sazia di amarezze.	18 He does not permit my spirit to rest, and he fills me with bitterness.
19 Se si tratta di forza, è lui il vigoroso; se si tratta di giudizio, chi lo farà comparire?	19 If strength is sought, he is most strong; if equity in judgment, no one would dare to give testimony for me.
20 Anche se fossi innocente, il mio parlare mi condannerebbe; se fossi giusto, mi dichiarerebbe perverso.	20 If I wanted to justify myself, my own mouth will condemn me; if I would reveal my innocence, he would prove me depraved.
21 Sono innocente? Non lo so neppure io; detesto la mia vita.	21 And if I now became simple, my soul would be ignorant even of this, and my life would weary me.
22 Però è lo stesso, ve lo assicuro, egli fa perire l'innocente e il reo!	22 There is one thing that I have said: both the innocent and the impious he consumes.
23 Se una calamità miete vittime in un istante, egli se ne ride della disgrazia degl'innocenti.	23 If he scourges, let him kill all at once, and not laugh at the punishment of the innocent.
24 Lascia la terra nel potere dei malvagi, egli vela il volto dei suoi governanti. Se non è lui, chi dunque può essere?	24 Since the earth has been given into the hand of the impious, he covers the face of its judges; for if it is not him, then who is it?
25 I miei giorni passano più veloci di un corriere, fuggono senza gustare felicità.	25 My days have been swifter than a messenger; they have fled and have not seen goodness.
26 Scorrono veloci come barche di giunco, come aquila che piomba sulla preda.	26 They have passed by like ships carrying fruits, just like an eagle flying to food.
27 Se dico: "Voglio dimenticare la mia afflizione, cambiare il mio volto ed essere lieto",	27 If I say: “By no means will I speak this way.” I change my face and I am tortured with sorrow.
28 mi spavento per tutte le sofferenze; e poi so che tu non mi assolverai.	28 I have dreaded all my works, knowing that you did not spare the offender.
29 Se sono colpevole, perché affaticarmi invano?	29 Yet, if I am also just as impious, why have I labored in vain?
30 Anche se mi lavassi con la neve e pulissi le mie mani con la potassa,	30 If I had been washed with snow-like waters, and my hands were shining like the cleanest thing,
31 tu mi tufferesti nel fango e le mie vesti mi avrebbero in orrore.	31 yet you would plunge me in filth, and my own garments would abhor me.
32 Egli, infatti, non è un uomo come me, cui possa replicare, e che insieme compariamo in giudizio.	32 For even I would not answer a man who were like myself, nor one who could be heard with me equally in judgment.
33 Non c'è un giudice tra noi che ponga la mano su noi due,	33 There is no one who could both prevail in argument and in placing his hand between the two.
34 che allontani da me la sua verga, in modo che il suo terrore non mi spaventi.	34 Let him take his staff away from me, and let not the fear of him terrify me.
35 Allora potrei parlare senza temerlo; poiché non è così, sono solo con me stesso.	35 I will speak and I will not fear him, for in fearfulness I am not able to respond.
