1 Corinthians 13

1 If I were to speak in the language of men, or of Angels, yet not have charity, I would be like a clanging bell or a crashing cymbal.	1 Anzi io voglio mostrarvi una via ancora più eccellente. Qualora io parlassi le lingue degli uomini è degli angeli, se non ho la carità, sono un bronzo risonante o un cembalo squillante.
2 And if I have prophecy, and learn every mystery, and obtain all knowledge, and possess all faith, so that I could move mountains, yet not have charity, then I am nothing.	2 E qualora avessi il dono della profezia e conoscessi tutti i misteri e tutta la scienza, e se avessi tutta la fede al punto da trasportare le montagne, se non ho la carità, nulla son io.
3 And if I distribute all my goods in order to feed the poor, and if I hand over my body to be burned, yet not have charity, it offers me nothing.	3 E se distribuissi, per sfamare i poveri, tutti i miei beni, anzi se donassi il mio corpo al fuoco, se non ho la carità, a nulla mi serve.
4 Charity is patient, is kind. Charity does not envy, does not act wrongly, is not inflated.	4 La carità è paziente, la carità è benigna, non porta invidia; la carità non si vanta, non si gonfia d’orgoglio,
5 Charity is not ambitious, does not seek for itself, is not provoked to anger, devises no evil.	5 nulla fa di sconveniente, non cerca il suo interesse, non si irrita, non serba rancore per il male,
6 Charity does not rejoice over iniquity, but rejoices in truth.	6 non gode dell’ingiustizia, ma si rallegra del trionfo della verità;
7 Charity suffers all, believes all, hopes all, endures all.	7 tollera tutto, crede tutto, spera tutto, tutto sopporta.
8 Charity is never torn away, even if prophecies pass away, or languages cease, or knowledge is destroyed.	8 La carità non verrà mai meno. Invece, se son le profezie, svaniranno; se è il dono delle lingue, cesserà; se è la scienza, diverrà inutile.
9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part.	9 Poiché possediamo la scienza e abbiamo la profezia in modo ben imperfetto,
10 But when the perfect arrives, the imperfect passes away.	10 e quando verrà ciò che è perfetto, l’imperfetto sparirà.
11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I understood like a child, I thought like a child. But when I became a man, I put aside the things of a child.	11 Quando ero bambino, parlavo da bambino, e da bambino pensavo e ragionavo; ma dacchè son diventato uomo, mi son disfatto di ciò che era infantile.
12 Now we see through a glass darkly. But then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know, even as I am known.	12 Ebbene noi vediamo ora come in uno specchio, in un’ombra; allora invece vedremo faccia a faccia. Adesso io conosco imperfettamente; ma allora conoscerò appieno, come sono conosciuto.
13 But for now, these three continue: faith, hope, and charity. And the greatest of these is charity.	13 Al presente rimangono quindi queste tre cose: la fede, la speranza, la carità; ma tra queste la più grande è la carità.
