1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.	1 Die Philister zogen ihre gesamten Heere in Aphek zusammen, während die Israeliten bei der Quelle in Jezreel lagerten.
2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.	2 Die Philisterhäuptlinge zogen auf mit ihren Hundert- und Tausendschaften, und am Schluß marschierten David und seine Männer zusammen mit Achisch.
3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'	3 Da fragten die Philisterfürsten: "Was wollen diese Hebräer hier?" Achisch erwiderte ihnen: "Das ist doch David, der Knecht des Saul, des Königs von Israel, der nun seit Jahr und Tag bei mir ist. Ich habe vom Tage seines Übertrittes zu mir bis heute an ihm nichts auszusetzen gefunden."
4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?	4 Doch die Philisterfürsten gerieten über ihn in Zorn und forderten von ihm: "Schicke doch den Mann fort! Mag er an den Ort zurückkehren, den du ihm angewiesen hast; aber in den Kampf soll er an unserer Seite nicht ziehen! Er könnte uns ja ein Widersacher im Kriege werden. Womit könnte er sich bei seinem Herrn in größere Gunst setzen als mit den Köpfen unserer Männer?
5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?	5 Ist das nicht derselbe David, dem zu Ehren man abwechselnd beim Reigentanze gesungen hat: Saul erschlug seine Tausend, David aber seine Zehntausend?"
6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.	6 Achisch rief nun David und sprach zu ihm: "So wahr der Herr lebt, ich halte dich für redlich, und es wäre mir recht, wenn du mit mir im Lager aus- und einziehen würdest. Denn ich habe an dir, seitdem du zu mir kamst, bis heute nichts Schlimmes gefunden. Jedoch den Fürsten paßt deine Person nicht.
7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'	7 Kehre also um und ziehe hin in Frieden, und du sollst nichts tun, was den Augen der Philisterfürsten mißfällt!"
8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'	8 Doch David entgegnete dem Achisch: "Was habe ich denn schon getan? Was hast du vom Tage meiner Ankunft bei dir bis heute an deinem Knecht gefunden, daß ich nicht an den Kämpfen wider die Feinde meines Herrn, des Königs, teilnehmen dürfte?"
9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."	9 Achisch antwortete darauf: "Ich weiß, daß du in meinen Augen so wert bist wie ein Bote Gottes. Nur die Philisterfürsten haben verlangt: Er darf mit uns nicht in den Krieg ziehen.
10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'	10 Morgen in der Frühe mach dich auf mit den Knechten deines Herrn, die mit dir gekommen sind! Geht hin an den Ort, den ich euch angewiesen habe! Und denke nichts Schlimmes; denn du bist mir lieb! So macht euch also früh am Morgen, wenn es hell wird, auf und geht!"
11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.	11 David machte sich also in der Frühe mit seinen Leuten auf den Weg, um in das Philisterland zurückzukehren. Die Philister aber zogen nach Jezreel hinauf.
