NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.	1 I Filistei avevano radunato ad Afek tutte le loro truppe, mentre Israele stava accampato presso la sorgente che è in Izreèl.
2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.	2 I principi dei Filistei sfilavano per cento e per mille, mentre Davide e i suoi uomini sfilavano per ultimi con Achis.
3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'	3 I capi dei Filistei domandarono: "Cosa fanno questi Ebrei?". Achis rispose ai capi dei Filistei: "Questi non è forse Davide, servo di Saul, re d'Israele, che è con me da uno o due anni? Non ho trovato in lui niente di male dal giorno della sua diserzione fino a oggi".
4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?	4 Ma i capi dei Filistei si adirarono contro di lui e gli dissero: "Fa' tornare indietro quell'uomo! Ritorni alla località che gli hai assegnato! Non deve scendere con noi in battaglia, per non diventare un nostro avversario nella battaglia. Con che cosa potrà rientrare nelle grazie dei suoi padroni? Non è forse con le teste di questi uomini?
5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?	5 Questo non è Davide per il quale si ripeteva il ritornello nelle danze: "Saul batté le sue migliaia, ma Davide le sue miriadi"?".
6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.	6 Achis chiamò Davide e gli disse: "Per la vita del Signore, tu sei retto, e il tuo comportamento presso di me al campo è gradito ai miei occhi, perché non ho trovato in te niente di male dal giorno della tua venuta da me fino a quest'oggi; ma tu non sei gradito agli occhi dei prìncipi.
7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'	7 Ora ritorna e va' in pace, così non darai dispiaceri ai prìncipi dei Filistei".
8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'	8 Davide disse ad Achis: "Che cosa ho fatto? Che hai trovato di male nel tuo servo dal giorno in cui fui presso di te fino a quest'oggi, per non venire a combattere contro i nemici del re mio signore?".
9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."	9 Achis, ripresa la parola, disse a Davide: "Capisco, tu sei accetto ai miei occhi come un angelo di Dio, ma i capi dei Filistei hanno detto: "Non deve salire con noi in battaglia!".
10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'	10 Lèvati domattina presto con i servi del tuo padrone che sono venuti con te, e andate al luogo che vi ho assegnato. Non far caso a questa faccenda, perché tu sei accetto alla mia presenza. Domattina alzatevi presto e, allo spuntare dell'alba, andatevene".
11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.	11 Davide si levò di buon'ora insieme con i suoi uomini per partire nella mattinata e fare ritorno al paese dei Filistei. I Filistei invece salirono a Izreèl.
